Spirit Journey

This audio download is actually two books: Spirit Journey and Gossamer Threads. If you've read the previous books you will enjoy these additions to the series.

The first book focuses on the romance of Skip & Peanut and we get more information about The tribe, Runner, and the Spirit Journey. The second book focuses on the relationship of Joey & Snow Song and gives glimpses into the lives of Rory & Kyle, Eric & Jaylin and members of the tribe.

I know each book in this series is supposed to be considered a "stand alone" book but I would recommend reading these books in order. These stories connect beautifully and each book builds the character and story development.

The narration is very good for most voices. Each voice is unique but my only negative is that some of the male voices tend to be on the whiney side.

(Note: These books may not appeal to everyone because the story does delve into Tribal customs and practices. This story shows that homosexuality within their tribe is honored and not frowned upon. As a Christian, I have different views than the Tribe but I did appreciate that the author was true to the tribe's beliefs. We all have different opinions regarding this subject but we need to be less judgemental and more compassionate. None of us are perfect, we all sin and struggle in life. We need to let God handle the judging! And......I'm sure to get many negative votes for saying this.)

I enjoyed these books and I am grateful that the author, narrator, or publisher provided me this audiobook at no cost in exchange for my unbiased review.

A bit unpolished, but heartfelt book

I would say that the authoress of Spirit Journey needs a few more books under her belt. This is a good story, but still a bit lost under writing that takes a picky reader like me out of the flow.

If you forget that the story is supposed to be set in a historical era, it will improve significantly. The characters are drawn quite well, but they say a lot of things that could have been beautifully shown instead. That's a shame, because the writing loses subtlety.

Sometimes I don't believe the character's actions - if you send a random woman and her baby to your parents and want them to house her, because you intend to marry her, I suppose they may have some serious objections, even if they love you :) I would at least come with her, however much the author needs me to be somewhere else in the plot :)

Also, please beware of preaching about the Native American question. I sympathize, but subtlety in this is definitely better than outright monologues. Say less, show more. It will come through louder and clearer that way instead of irritating. I promise.

Otherwise, very nice work with characters, and the love Peanut and Skip feel for each other is painted beautifully.

Keep writing, Linda!

I was provided this audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review via Audiobook Boom.
