Publisher's summary

Bonus material! Includes the prologue and first chapter of The Drafter, the first novel in Kim Harrison's new series!

Don't miss this thrilling first look into the elite world of Peri Reed, government agency operative extraordinaire, and catch more of her character in The Drafter, the first book in the all-new suspense trilogy from number-one New York Times best-selling author Kim Harrison, out September 1.

Every hero, even the accidental ones, has a beginning. Silas' radical theory that drafters are not replaying time as much as they are temporarily sliding into an alternate universe has never been well-received, but frankly, the darling of Opti's research has enough clout not to care until a professor with a grudge tries to put a permanent end to it. Love can't alter time, and sometimes even being able to rub out a single mistake isn't enough....

I THINK THIS IS GOING TO BE A GREAT SERIES!!!

What made the experience of listening to Sideswiped the most enjoyable?

This was narrated really well...and I love Kim's writing....always have!

What did you like best about this story?

The concept is really cool!

What about January LaVoy’s performance did you like?

January nailed it...she is excellent!!!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did, its a short one...and it kept my attention all the way through!!!

Any additional comments?

I was excited to see this was available on audible, and downloaded it immediately! I am a big Kim Harrison fan, and I think this is going to be a great new series... These are University students, learning how to manipulate time, and complete missions...They call it drafting....This is more Silas's story and he has been working on this concept and how to advance the time they can manipulate...Super interesting concept....and I am going to pre-order book 1 now..You also get a preview at the end of this book...I think this new series is going to be super great!!!

Was so much better than expected!

Would you listen to Sideswiped again? Why?

After reading reviews of this new series, I came into it tentatively. I started with this one with the thought that if I wasn't engaged, I didn't have to carry forward to The Drifter. However, I found this book entertaining, emotionally satisfying, and a perfect introduction to a new premise from a well loved author. I am moving forward with The Drifter and hoping for the best! Having said that, Peri was not my favorite character in the book. She's not very likable. I'm taking it on faith that Kim Harrison will create the same connection between the reader and the protagonist that she's famous for with the change in point-of-view.

A Great Start

Would you consider the audio edition of Sideswiped to be better than the print version?

I'd never say that a print version is better than an audio version (as long as there is a good narrator). I believe they compliment one another.

What other book might you compare Sideswiped to and why?

I really don't know another book or series that is even close to this series. It's new and fresh and very enjoyable!

Which scene was your favorite?

Well... I can't say, that would be giving too much away.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Well that would be nice. I didn't want to put it down but it just wasn't possible to listen start to finish! Very, Very entertaining and engaging!

Drafter University

This short story is the prologue for Kim Harrison's The Peri Reed Chronicles. We meet Silas, Allen, and Perri as well Silas' great love Summer. I did get a little confused regarding where the final exam was taking place and the ending was a bummer. However, it was an enjoyable quick read. #slicktechnoscifi #hulkynerd #timetravel #tagsgiving #sweepstakes

Wow, Love It!

Funny, because I was disappointed by "The Drafter", but I enjoyed this short story much more. I suspect that I would have enjoyed The Drafter more had I read/listened to this book first. It develops the characters much better, and more importantly makes me care about them. It gives me hope for this series!

Hmmmm...

What did you like best about Sideswiped? What did you like least?

Overall this story didn't really grab me. I had just finished reading the Rachel Morgan series, and was hoping her next series would be my next love. I'm going try try again with the first full-length novel - this is a short prequel.

Would you ever listen to anything by Kim Harrison again?

Yes, I am planning to listen to the Rachel Morgan series at some point.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No.

An exciting new series!

This is the prequel to Kim Harrison's new series. I love the worlds and characters Kim creates, the stories she tells. January LaVoy did an excellent job of narrating. I am eagerly awaiting the next book!

Must read for all Harrison fans!!!

Typically, I shun novellas. I usually read books of a minimum hours length, because I want to invest time in characters and their story. The minute I saw Kim Harrison had a new entry into a brand new world, I popped the treasure into my cart. This is comprised of a novella, "Sideswiped", plus the first 30 minutes of a full-size book in the series, "The Drafter", hitting the stores (and Audible) 1Sep15. Although not the same complexity as her Hollows series, I really like the premise behind this new series, and Perri Reed promises to be heroine I will enjoy following. I hope Harrison will bring back others who have appeared in this novella, especially Silas. Now, I just have to wait impatiently until 1Sep15.

The plot was engrossing, exciting, and complex

Sideswiped by Kim Harrison is a novella that starts the series The Peri Reed Chronicles. Silas is a researcher at a training facility for a company called, Opti, and is working to prove his alternative theory to explain how time rewrites work. A certain subset of the population has the inherent ability to rewrite small sequences of time. These Drafters require individuals, Anchors, who can help remember what these changes are. While Silas works as a researcher and has the capability to become an Anchor, his Drafter girlfriend and their friends are working to graduate from the Opti school. When their final exam goes awry and Silas is involved, the group of Drafters and Anchors enlist the help of younger Drafter, Peri Reed, to help them resolve their problems and potentially graduate.

While this is a prequel to The Peri Reed Chronicles, Peri Reed is not the main character in this novella, but rather Silas is. This made the start of the novella initially confusing. The beginning of the novella was difficult to get into simply because it was confusing. Both in the beginning and later on, I had to listen to a few parts a few times to try to make sure I understood the mechanisms of the time travel as well as what had actually ended up happening in the time drafts. I also had a hard time placing the ages of characters. However, by half way through the novella, I was hooked! I loved each of the characters and they had their own distinct personalities. I specifically found Silas, Peri and the professors (even though they were a bit flat) to be the most well-defined. The plot was engrossing, exciting, and complex, which can be a little difficult in novellas. Having to figure out what was happening wasn’t necessarily a liability as this is a time travel story and in general they can be somewhat inherently confusing. Figuring out the story and the time travel logistics actually made the novella more fun for me.

The narration by January LaVoy was good in general. I’m not sure if she did this on purpose, but one of the characters sounded like a whiny immature individual. I also felt that one of the characters’ voices seemed to change in tone abruptly. Overall, I really enjoyed this novella and I would recommend this novella to anyone who likes time travel stories with a touch of school antics.

Do NOT skip this! Must listen before The Drafter!

Sideswiped was a nice introduction to Kim Harrison's new The Peri Reed Chronicles series. It helps set the stage to the world building and terminology. All though Sideswiped is told through Silas' POV we do meet Peri, the main character of the series.

I really enjoyed LaVoy's narration. Her voice and performance reminded me of Elisabeth Rodgers, the narrator for Richelle Mead's Georgina Kincaid series. I only wish I had The Drafter on audio for review but at last, I'll be reading it.
