Publisher's summary

"Being the first female werecat enforcer isn’t easy. Scars accumulate, but I’m stronger in so many ways.... As for my personal life? It’s complicated. Choices worth making always are. Ever since my brother’s death and my father’s impeachment, it’s all I can do to prevent more blood from spilling. Now our Pride is under attack by a flight of vicious thunderbirds. And making peace with our new enemies may be the only way to get the best of our old foe. With the body count rising and treachery everywhere, my instincts tell me to look before I leap. But sometimes a leap of faith is the only real option."

Like a train wreck you can't look away from.

I'm torn between what to rate this series, especially this book. On one hand I want to give it 5 stars because I can't stop listening to it. On the other hand I want to give it 1 star because never before have I gotten so angry at the main character of a series. Faythe makes mistakes and bad choices one after another throughout the series that leave me constantly swearing outloud. I continue listening because I'm hoping that at least some of the supporting characters make it to the end alive and not emotionally destroyed. Vincent has me listening because I'm attached to them more than the heroine. She is stupid and selfish even though you are suppose to believe she is strong and independent. So I'll listen to the last book I need to know how it all ends.

Good but not the best

I really love these books. they are well written and well read. Keeps you listening all the way to the end. then you can't wait to hear the next one but this one is frustrating. I just wish she would pick one of the guys. i am voting for Jas not Mark.

Rachel Vincent has done it again!!

Rachel Vincent has done it again! Anyone who knows me knows how much I look forward to reading anything Rachel writes. Ever since I read Stray, the first book of the werecat series, I've been hooked. The books just suck me in from start to finish. For example, when I received my copy of Shift I began reading it at 9pm and by the time I looked up it was 6am. I was so captivated by the world Rachel created I didn't even realize nine hours flew by or the fact that I hadn't slept in twenty-four hours. It's that great.

Shift is the fifth book in the Werecat series but if you haven't yet read Stray, Rogue, Pride, or Prey you could still catch the storyline easily. Personally though I would suggest starting at one and working your way through the riveting action packed series. None of the books disappoint.

But let me get back to the subject at hand;Shift. One simple word can describe how great this book is; AMAZING!!!

This book is a thrill ride from beginning to end filled with unpredictable twist and turns, action , romance, and Marc! *sighs*

Beware the werecat series is an ADULT series. It is not the typical YA I read but it is also not a sex filled romance either. It does occasionally have some cringing descriptions but all in all the books is a perfect balance.

I have a copy of Shift in book form but I love listening to Jennifer Van Dyke read the Werecat series I just had to have it on audio too,

Fantastic

The ONLY bad thing I can say about this book and this series is that Rachel is not able to write them as fast as I can read/listen to them! I adore this series!!

Worst audio book I have ever listed to.

Good Scifi is taking an unrealistic premise (shape-shifting people in this case) and having the characters act logically and consistently with that otherwise unrealistic world. In this book the characters do and say the stupidest things I couldn't imagine anyone of any species doing or saying in any circumstances. One example is being under murderous attack by a flock of bird people and trying to figure out a way to counter them, and not seriously considering guns (in Texas of all places) as a serious or humane way to fight a group killing your people one by one (the outer pride members could have brought guns to the ranch). Although I am not a good judge of romance writing, I can't imagine this is good example of that genre either. Her earlier books had tolerable stupidity, but the series has been deteriorating and this book falls below any definition of good writing. I want my credit back.

Whiny little shit

A whole lot of whining the story starts to drag on and I liked her previous books but do you got bird creatures and where are the guns they shoot the damn things and get it over with what the Hells wrong with you

Yet another AWESOME read!

I continue to enjoy this series, reviewed all others and this one was no different....I eagerly anticipate the 6th book (and sadly the last) coming in Oct. 2010!

Again, also, the reader remains the same (I like that consistency in a good series) and she has taken on the true personality of the heroine extremely well. A great 'listen' and a great 'read'!

While waiting for #6, I thoroughly enjoyed the "Anna Strong" series by Jeanne Stein, as well as Carrie Jones' "Need" & "Captivate". All wonderful as I come-down from the 'high' of Twilight and Harry Potter!

Vincent's done it again!

I've been hooked on this series from the start and Shift is just one more reason to love it. The characters are smart, the dialogue is sharp and Jennifer Van Dyck is one of my favorite narrators.

Mine does have a dead spot in it. About 4 minutes of silence. Having read the series from the beginning, I don't feel like I missed much, but for someone picking up this one as the first one, it might be something important. I didn't see mention of this in any other review, so it was probably an isolated incident.

I'm looking forward to her next (and I hear her last in this series) Alpha.

Lease favorite of this series

The love triangle is ridicules and weird. It's a great series just the story line in this one was lacking.
