Publisher's summary

Elizabeth Parkins lived through a nightmare come true - getting kidnapped by a serial killer. Seeking a fresh start, she moves to Texas, but escaping her demons proves impossible when she's too terrified to leave her own apartment. A small, accidental fire sparks a coping method she'd never expected, and brings an amazing man to her door.

Firefighter Cade "Sledge" Turner's idyllic life ended the day his sister was kidnapped. Now he knows firsthand that tragedy can befall anyone, at any time. Meeting Elizabeth on the job was a gift. Cade can envision spending his life with this woman. He understands what she's been through, is willing to help her heal...though even Cade is unaware of Beth's new secret obsession.

As Beth takes steps to help herself heal, and Cade attempts to earn her trust and prove his own, they're both about to be tested - in a way that could see everything they've worked for go up in flames.

Shelter for Elizabeth is the 5th book in the Badge of Honor: Texas Heroes series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings.

Oh What a Story!

Oh this story!! We finally get to see what happened to Beth. We first met her in Protecting Summer. Book 4 Susan Stoker’s SEAL of Protection series. You don’t have to read it to enjoy this book. Trust me, once you finish this book, you can’t help but want to read it.

This was a different type of damsel in distress story. Cade aka Sledge was called to Elizabeth’s apartment when she started a stove fire. The fire was the least of her problems when they asked her to leave her apartment for her own safety. See Elizabeth or Beth suffers from Agoraphobia. This was a result of her being kidnapped and tortured by a serial killer. Leaving her apartment, her sanctuary, would put her into a major panic attack. Cade was there to comfort her and make her feel safe.

This story had so many heart-warming and heart-wrenching moments. I felt so connected to each of the characters. Susan wrote Beth’s feelings and emotions so clearly that you felt like you were experiencing each and every panic or anxiety with her.

A story well-written. I am so glad Beth got her happily ever after like Summer did.

Don't Miss This Series

Beth and Cade rock! Having a man love you unconditionally may be awesome! Despite Beth's fear Cade goes the extra mile for her even before he falls for her.

Another really good story!

Susan Stoker has become one of my favorite authors and this latest did not disappoint. I love all the characters from the other books and their interactions add to the enjoyment. I look forward to future books.

Love it!!

I love how some of the characters from the other books and series are brought in. But you don't have to read the other books to know what's going on. The story line is awesome! And I really like how each female has their strong points about them, even at their weakest moments. I can't wait for the next one!!

Same as written

Another wonderful story about a mature romance. Beth suffered from agoraphobia. A victim of a vicious serial killer. Beth met Cade after a small kitchen fire. She was the friend of his sister. He answered her question how to clean up the mess by offering to bring something to help with the job. The beginning.

The story was written with sensitivity and tenderness. The strength of both of them to begin a relationship and overcome their difficulties was touching. This is my second audio in the series and I've added another. The love stories are steamy and the conflicts real and serious situations. The men are strong and so are the women. A strong recommend.

I loved Elizabeths story

Very enjoyable! Loved getting to know Cade and Elizabeth! Her issue was different from other and I liked her ups and downs. I barely remember her from Summer’s book so that might make it a reread. It was fun getting to see Penelope and meet more of the station 7 crew. I listened on audio and the narrator did a great job!

Don't Get It!

I don't get the women in these stories. Always biting their lip. I don't know anyone who does that so much.

Firefighter meets his match...

I just didn’t connect as well with this story as I usually do with Susan Stoker’s characters. I’m not sure how to pinpoint what felt off, except that as I’m a nurse it wasn’t realistic to me that the heroine would develop pyromania as a result of her kidnapping and abuse. Pyromania is almost always a mental illness that starts in childhood. The hero being a firefighter just made everything too cookie cutter for me. Narration was well done.
