Publisher's summary

AD 1236. Daniel de Lohr, son of David de Lohr (Steelheart, Rise of the Defender, Archangel, Unending Love), is a highly trained knight of the highest order from one of the finest families in England. But he is also a wanderer, a gypsy, who prefers to travel rather than be tied down to one castle, one lord, or even one woman. He loves his vagabond lifestyle, much to the distress of his parents, who wish he would settle down.

But Daniel's wandering ways come to a stop when he comes across a young boy running for his life across the Yorkshire moors. In that instant Daniel's life changes forever. Saving the child from the man who is chasing him, Daniel returns the boy home. The child's home is a fortress known as Shadowmoor, a desolate and derelict place harboring a cavalcade of dark and tragic secrets. Among those secrets, the once-proud Saxon fortress is now forced into poverty by a local lord who covets both the castle and the young boy's sister.

When Daniel first lays his eyes upon Lady Liselotte l'Audacieux, he immediately understands the wicked lord's obsession. A tall woman with hair the color of bronze, Liselotte is a fine beauty. But she is trapped in a terrible situation. As Daniel comes to know her and understand her strife, he vows to help the woman and her family fight off the wicked lord. But his determination does not come without a price; the once-wandering knight is now a champion for the persecuted of Shadowmoor, and his admiration for Liselotte quickly turns to love. He is tied to her whether or not he wants to be, and the coming battle, and the odds against him, are staggering. Calling upon his father and his uncle, Christopher de Lohr (Rise of the Defender), for assistance, it is fight or die.

Can Daniel return Shadowoor to its former glory? Can Liselotte's love tame the wanderer? Enter the world of Daniel and Liselotte to find out what the glory of love really means.

It Was Okay!

Where does Shadowmoor rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It doesn't rank very high.

What other book might you compare Shadowmoor to and why?

Although a unique story line, overall it is similar to many books about Knights and ladies in distress.

What does Brad Wills bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His narration makes the characters come alive.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

I couldn't improve on Shadowmoor.

Any additional comments?

I've enjoyed several of Ms. Le Veque's books more than this one.

Shadowmoor

I so enjoyed this story immensely!! It's such a joy to have family and friends from previous books show up in the current book. I loved the humor, good natured ribbing, and banter between the men! I really like David, he's smart, funny and quick witted. Having Brad Wills as the Narrator makes an extraordinary difference!! He did a fantastic job bringing it all to life. This story stands on its own, you don't have to have read any of the others books though I'd recommend them as well. I have been listening to the Audible version and Brad is the Best! I thoroughly enjoyed David's story!

Magnificent!!

The story was magnificent and I felt as if I was right there with Brad's magnificent voice putting feeling into it. I love it when the Narriator can use different voices for the characters and Brad does that so well. Even the children. I loved it!

Chivalry is not dead!

Kathryn Le Veque always gives a well-written storyline full of action and suspense to pass away a few hours, and I'm never disappointed. Shadowmoor offers just such a story. The hero knight was very chivalrous, smart, and good-natured. He was everything you expected from a true knight of old and I was not disappointed in the outcome. The story flowed well and kept me interested from start to finish. I find that I always become invested in the characters and can't wait to hear the outcome. Brad Wills does a wonderful job with the narration and brings each character to life.

Another Winner

What can I say. I haven't been disappointed yet. However, there are a few books in this series I will not listen to because of the narrator.

A woman has finally tamed the wandering bachelor.

From the rescue of a young boy, Daniel, the wandering son of David De Lohr, finds a situation his knightly ethics would not allow him to walk away from.
Therefore, he becomes involved in a power struggle with a relation of the king. His solution is radical, but the tale is completely enthralling.

Excellent.

What made the experience of listening to Shadowmoor the most enjoyable?

Kathryn Le Veque has written another outstanding story. It grabs your attention from the very first word and makes you breathless with anticipation until the very end. This story is so emotionally touching and yet it has great humor and witty banter between characters.
A well developed plot and backstory. You will recognize some of the characters from previous books in this series. But don't worry, this is a stand alone story. I loved every word and didn't want this book to end. Don't pass this book by. You will love it.

What does Brad Wills bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Brad Wills brought this story to life. With great character voices in his performance, he truly makes the words on the page dance with emotion. I could listen to Brad narrate books all day. Excellent and flawless performance.

Great Read especially for the Price

This was an interesting story line, interesting characters and involved a goal for the main character.
