Heartwarming Story of Personal Forgiveness

At eighteen, Jonas Armstrong commits the biggest mistake of his life. His secret shame haunts him and he locks himself away from society. For five years he throws himself into church and philanthropic work. Although he finally feels like he's received God's forgiveness, he's unable to fully forgive himself.

Ivy Jeffries is the new minister's daughter, and she's drawn to Jonas from the moment she meets him. Unaware of his past she tries to get closer to him, but Jonas keeps her at arm's length. When she finally discovers his secret, Jonas wonders if she'll ever be able to accept him even as a friend.

Each of the author's books have their own Christian message. This one is personal forgiveness. Jonas hasn't allowed himself to move on from his mistakes in the past. The message wasn't heavy handed, and was woven into the story perfectly.

I liked all the characters in this one! Ivy is a strong personality and goes after what she wants, but she's still sweet and not bullheaded. Jonas may have slipped up in the past, but when he's needed he steps up to the plate in a big way. Zoey is an absolutely adorable little girl, and she lights up the page whenever she appears.

Tom Jordan was a great narrator, I was surprised to see this was his first audiobook on Audible. It was professionally done with perfect pace and timing. He didn't dramatically overact, and his character's voices were distinct and recognizable.

I received a copy of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Sweet Romance

This was my first Christian Historical Romance. Yes all of those lol. And honestly, I enjoyed it. It was good to take a break from my normal listening genre and try something new. So glad I did.

Barb writes a story that has several layers. It is listed as Christian becauae of the references to God, forgiveness and the church. It is just enough not to be overbearing for those who may not be of the faith. The story also deals with race, and acceptance and a few "never saw that coming" moments.

This is a love story and I enjoyed how the characters were developed and how Jonas's and Ivy's relatiinship grew overtime.

Tom Jordan performs this book and as it being his debut did a wonderful job. Great tone, differences in characters were evident, and he has great pacing. I felt the emotions he provided and gave me a deeper understanding of what they were facing. Well done and looking forward to more of his work!
