Quiet powerful narration - O.K. Civil War story

Would you listen to Secrets and Sacrifices again? Why?

No - not because it wasn't a well written story but it was rather depressing. So much bloodshed - so much detail on all the surgeries Daniel was performing to save the soldiers. The love story was a minor part of the story, but at least it does end happily.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Secrets and Sacrifices?

Charlie helping to free a family of slaves, hiding them in her family's wagon's boxes. Another is Charlie sneaking into the prison camp Daniel is being held in, and helping him break out of there. Definitely, a lot of great detail and the story follows the history of the different battles very well.

What about Christine Padovan’s performance did you like?

Her quiet narrating style for this particular story - it fit the mood of the story. Accents were O.K. Her voice made it enjoyable to listen to the story; it had so much heartache and sadness most of the time, that it was good that she kept her voice soothing.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, it was actually nice to take a break from listening and just listen to it in bits and pieces.

Great American Civil War Romance

Would you listen to Secrets and Sacrifices again? Why?

Yes. I will listen to it again. The characters were real, believable and held my interest from the very beginning to the end. The events of the American Civil War that unfolded caused the characters to keep secrets and continually make sacrifices were a testament to their honor, beliefs, love and convictions. The heroine remains steadfast, strong and true, but soft and compassionate to those she meets. The romance is exceptional, the plot enticing and captivating. I won't keep a secret about this book. I'm going to spread the word and I recommend this to anyone looking for strong characters, a great story, and a wonderful heartfelt romance set in the backdrop of one of America's most tragic events.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Charlie. The heroine who is a strong woman when needed, but keeps herself open to love, faith and hope.

Have you listened to any of Christine Padovan’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is the first narration I listened to by Christine.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

A testament to honor, belief, love and convictions.

Any additional comments?

Nice romance during the American Civil War. Very well written.
