Publisher's summary

A wallflower by nature, Jane long ago accepted she would become a spinster. Perhaps such a fate was for the best. After all, she'd witnessed firsthand how miserable marriage could make a lady. Still, she dared to dream - that is until she finds herself thoroughly scandalized by a lord with the manners of a wild boar.

After Caleb Wesley, the Earl of Keery, failed to protect the one person who'd counted on him, he embraced his role of blackguard. He holds his vices close - light skirts, gambling, and liquor - and has no intention of giving them up. Even after he accidentally ruins a lady and is forced to offer marriage.

Two people brought together through an unwanted circumstance discover something neither one believed they'd ever have. Can they let go of their old hurts and beliefs long enough to embrace the gift fate bestowed upon them?

Touching read!

Calab was a known rogue and when he was found in Jane's room, he was obliged to marry her. Jane was a wallflower and she was considered ruined. Sometimes all you need is love. Well entertaining and the narration was great!

wallflower gets her rogue

Would I listen to it again: yes
Did the story keep me engaged: yes
Was I invested in the characters: yes
What did I enjoy? despite being short, has a good pace, characters are engaging and it's well written.
I enjoyed both characters, Jane is not a typical beauty and feels she doesn't fit in and despite Caleb's troubled past she is able to knock down the walls he's built around his heart. Jane and Caleb have some amusing moments on the way to their HEA.

Narrator comment: I enjoyed Anne Marie Damman's narration, she's done a great job bringing the characters to life, each character personality comes through for an entertaining audio experience.

An Enjoyable Listen

When Caleb stumbles into the wrong room one night, he finds himself waking up next to the plain Jane, a 23 year old spinster. Forced to marry, Jane and Caleb find friendship and Jane discovers there is more to her husband than the rogue he was reported to be.

This was a sweet short listen with some explicit scenes. I loved both Caleb and Jane, and forced marriage scenarios are my favorite. It was so sweet to watch Caleb slowly discover that everything about Jane was exactly what he had been missing. And his backstory was endearing.

The narration was well done, with a voice and accent that pulled me right into the story. I requested a copy of the audiobook, and I'm voluntarily leaving a review.

Enjoyable

This is short but sweet historical romance. Both the storyline and the characters are charming. I enjoyed it!

Can a Compromise Lead to Lasting Love?

This book starts off with a bang! Through no fault of either, the heroine is compromised, and the hero immediately offers marriage to save her reputation. While we know in romance the couple is going to end up together, we rarely see their marriage so quickly! So, their story follows how their affections grow and the bumps along the road as both adjust to marriage. Will it eventually become a love match? Both have internal struggles. She had always imagined herself to be a wallflower, believing she would remain a spinster though, if she married, had hoped to do so for love. She withholds some important information from the hero. Will that affect their nascent romance? The hero, too, has a deep secret, a horrible tragedy he blames himself for, that makes him fear getting close to anyone. When these two actually talk, they're actually very sweet together, and I absolutely adored that. I love it when couples in romances treat each other with kindness and respect even when they have other issues, But their main problem was, however, that they let minor misunderstandings and suppositions about what the other was thinking or feeling blow up into much bigger problems that threatened to tear them apart, even though they seemed well suited and attracted to each other. Will they get past their own personal struggles, allow themselves to be vulnerable, and start being honest with each other? You'll have to read or listen to the story to find out.

Totally insubstantial == don’t bother

These little stories are cute and I enjoyed the ones before this one but this is so unbelievably insubstantial that I wish I hadn’t even listened. Certainly not worth a credit. H and H are compromised having never really known each other. We learn nothing about either, especially the hero. They spend a day or two together and then Hero runs off. Then heroine runs after him and the spend an hour together. That is followed with undying love. I was basically insulted when I read it that the author thought she could do this to her readers. It was like she wrote it in about 20 minutes in the bathtub.
