Publisher's summary

Kristen knows men hide things. Case in point, her last boyfriend turned out to be married. Just like anyone else, Kristen is devastated. However, since Kristen evaluates people for a living, her ex's duplicity has her searching for a new career as well as swearing off men.

Touring history museums with her sexy friend Ethan doesn't count, because he has a girlfriend, and has only shown friendly interest in Kristen. He even helps with her career counseling tasks. Although Kristen has a secret crush on Ethan, spending time with him is safe. Until she discovers he's actually single. Gasp. And now he's flirting with her, too.

Suddenly, Ethan is way too dangerous. Not to mention tempting. Sure, he seems like 60 shades of perfect, but how's a girl with bad judgment supposed to detect what skeletons he has in his closet?

Review: Save the Date, by Susan Hatler

It’s been awhile since I’ve read one of Susan Hatler’s books, and now that I’ve read another, I know I’ve been missing out.

A few years ago when I read my first few Hatler books, I enjoyed them because they were short, simple, yet romantic stories. They’re perfect when I’m in the mood for a light read but also need enjoyable characters and great writing. With Save the Date I received just what I was looking for.

The Better Date than Never series follows characters with connected lives, yet even with the time gap between the last book in the series I read and now, I don’t feel like I was out of the loop. It was easy to jump into the story and discover the characters and storyline (which if I remember right are mostly new, with only a little back story mentioned from a previous book).

I liked what Hatler did with Kristen and her story. It only added to the enjoyment when the romance aspect popped up in the story, and even then it wasn’t easy to predict exactly what was going to be the outcome.

So as I said, this was another great Hatler read. It was quick and sweet and just what I needed to help me in a current book funk. I won’t be waiting too long to read more from the series now that I’ve had another taste.

wonderful addition to my audio library

Where does Save the Date rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It rates up there at the top. I loved it! Funny and the listener really gets involved with the story.

What other book might you compare Save the Date to and why?

I would compare them to Jill Shalvis or Kristin Higgins. The books are hilarious and are full of things that happen to women every day.

Which scene was your favorite?

My favorite scene was when Kristen was telling her friends if she had done a background check on her previous boyfriend, it would have saved her a lot of time and misery. I also learned a new word:skeevy. That has become my favorite word right now.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This book made me laugh out loud while I was listening at work and in the car. I didn't want to stop listening when I got home at one point.

Dream Career vs Dream Man

Any additional comments?

I received the Audible of “Save the Date” by Susan Hatler and Narrated by Martha Lee. I am really enjoying the narration by Martha Lee for this series, as she makes it easy to follow along and used differentiated tones for each of the characters. Kristen story was intriguing to me to read about her journey for her to find her new career. It’s interesting how events happen and the evaluation process Kristen takes to get her back on track. Learning the surprise of Ethan, the lawyer!!

What did you like best about this story?

I enjoyed the way Kristen was able to deal with the heartbreak of being in love with a married man, a cheater, and moving on with her life. It can be hard to move on when you are in love.

Which scene was your favorite?

The 2 months of leave from her job to get out-of-the city.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I giggled in a few places of listening to Save the Date! I was sad when Kristen wanted to quit her job over a breakup with a man. It was great to find out the decision that Kristen made about her job and her life.

Any additional comments?

I plugged in my ear buds to listen to Save the Date by Susan Hatler. This was a clean romantic story without all the harsh sex. Martha Lee, the narrator, made you feel like she was the character, Kristen, in the book. And it made cleaning the house an easy chore. Thank you Susan Hatler for introducing me to Save the Date!!

Saving the date for the next one!

Any additional comments?

What a great book from Susan Hatler! I could not stop listening. Martha Lee brought to life the characters, their personalities, and emotions - the reasons why I love audiobooks (and because I have a long work commute). The story captures all the angst of the unknown, and the excitement of a budding romance. It was funny, witty, and relatable with a dash of good life lessons. Saving the date for the next one. Well done Susan!

Finding your match

Would you consider the audio edition of Save the Date to be better than the print version?

I am a huge lover of print, but I did find myself enjoying the audible. It comes in handy when you don't have time to read yourself.

What did you like best about this story?

I enjoyed the story line in whole. Kristen is a character I can find myself relating to. Her fear in herself and relationships is coming. It was nice to see Ethan wear her down until she was ready to give him a chance. Through audible I was able to feel a bit of the emotions the narrator did a good job,

Have you listened to any of Martha Lee’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

First time hearing he. I enjoyed her telling of the story. She seemed to get into the characters and try to give them the personality in which you can feel through the story.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I enjoyed the moment during the cell phone, where Etahn trusted her enough to let her peruse through it. Oh, and the bust moment. He shared something special with her.

Any additional comments?

It was an overall nice experience. It was not something monotonous. You could feel that the narrator tried to give it character and meet up to the words portrayed through the story,
