Publisher's summary

Coming home should be the easiest thing in the world, but I've never felt more lost....

When his stellar military career comes to an abrupt and terrible end, 32-year-old Maddox Kent returns to the town he never planned to step foot into again, hoping to mend the rift he himself caused with the brother he left behind. But coming home means facing some hard truths about himself and his actions. When he has the chance to start making amends by helping his brother with the wildlife sanctuary he runs, Maddox is thrown another curveball when a stranger appears....

As long as we keep moving, everything will be okay. That's what I keep telling myself, anyway....

For 21-year-old Isaac, Pelican Bay is only supposed to be a stopping point on the trek from San Francisco to New York. With his little brother, Newt, in tow, Isaac is just looking to make things right by returning something of value to a person he wronged. But "getting lost" in the next big city proves to be a problem when the brutal Minnesota winter claims Isaac's car and strands him and Newt at the animal sanctuary. When the owners of the place offer him a job, a desperate Isaac agrees, despite the presence of a man Isaac instinctively knows could be his downfall....

It should be so easy to let him go, but I can't. And not just because I want to protect him....

Nothing about Isaac makes sense to Maddox. Not his piercings or makeup or flashy clothes. And most certainly not the snarky mouth that doesn't match the vulnerability Maddox sees in the younger man's eyes. But one thing does make sense to the hardened former soldier. Isaac is running from something, and Maddox's gut is telling him not to let Isaac and little Newt go until he can ferret out the truth.

My Fav. Sloane Kennedy story...

So I've read a few Sloane Kennedy titles and I found that I'm not really made for her stories. Ms. Kennedy has the tendency to write trigger-stories, many of them include sexual assaults. And though I feel that the theme does serve some degree in plotting device, it's way over used in her stories. But Pelican Bay book 1 and 2 are the exceptions. Book 1 I loved as well, but book 2 is the keeper for me. Mainly cuz I have a thing for hurt/comfort stories, especially those about burned out veterans. Shrugs. It's a thing for me.

Anyway, I liked the plot. I think the first chapter of the book shouldn't have started as a preview of the last book but I got over it. The rest of the story moved along well and didn't drag like most audio/books I've read/listened to. It was set at a nice pace.

The characters were well developed. Both Maddox and Isaac were lovely. And the way Maddox made Isaac feel during sex was wow. Amazing.

Sanctuary Found

I do really like this book with Isaac and Maddox and Little Newton, and would recommend both books in this series in EBook & Audio if you have a chance to read/listen to them. However, This book didn't get me in the Feels, as much as book one did. Which I am actually kind of Grateful for since I was an emotional wreck for a while after that one.
Isaac and Newt are Brothers running from their past and a life they cant go back to. They end up at Nolan and Dallas's Animal sanctuary (from book 1) and decide to stay a little while. Maddox is dealing with Some PTSD from his time in the military and is completely drawn to Isaac the moment he sees him, although he is not quite sure why. Isaac is a total mystery to Maddox, in the way he looks and Acts and the emotions Isaac pulls out of Maddox. And Mad just feels the need to uncover what it is about Isaac that makes Mad want him so much. There's some Drama and Angst in this one, some mentions of past abuse, some family issues, some lacy underwear, some Hot Sex. And a totally adorable 4 year old you will just fall in love with. This book was a good follow up from the conclusion of book one, and I am very hopeful for book three and what I will bring us next.
Audio - Michael Pauley did a great job with this narration and making sure that these two characters and the supporting ones had some difference and depth to them. He is becoming a favorite when it comes to audio narrations.

Such a beautiful and emotional story!

Isaac and Maddox are great, beautifully written characters and Newt us the cherry on top.
Sloane Kennedy doesn't miss a hit and the second Pelican Bay book is as perfect as the first one.
Michael Puley has the kind of voice that can render an already great book a wonderful experience!

Pelican Bay

Michael Pauley is a great narrator!

This is the second story in the series. It is a deeper dive into the story from book one but about a different couple.

Sloane Kennedy writes such well rounded characters. They always bring out all of my emotions as a reader. Maddox is a soldier with PTSD and Isaac is running away from his past. Waiting for the two of them to get together is painful but its so worth it in the end!
