Publisher's summary

When Wyatt turns his back on the world - and her - Gillian knows he's hurting and needs time to recover from whatever wounds were inflicted on his bear by the military. He reluctantly accepts her help as they flee from a secret group sent to eliminate the shifter-soldiers involved in a black-ops experiment, though he's determined to maintain an emotional distance from her. But bears mate for life, and his human mate is just as stubborn as he is. Nothing could hurt her more than losing him, and she's just the one to help her wounded warrior move from the past and into the future - if they have a future...

not a bad story

Ok. sooo the narrator was lovely, HOWEVER, (to me) he sounded on the older side of a what the story / cover pic implied.
There were pieces missing to make this a complete story.
Very nice to listen to.

interesting story

My first book from the author and I enjoyed it. Short but full of suspense, a few hawt scenes too, I think it is a great start to the series. Wyatt and Gillian almost lose each other several times, but they fight for each other. I wanted to smack him a few times, so like a man, ready to make decisions for his mate without asking her. Love Gillian, she is human but a strong character and she shows him that she can be his mate and he can be proud of her. It ends in HFN which is great. Looking forward to the next one.

I picked this story because it sounded good after reading the blurb, I love shifter stories, but mainly because Mr. Quimby is one of my faves and love listening to his voice, pleasant, warm with enough variation to make it interesting.

Heartwarming, action packed love story!!

OMGosh!!! I loved this book!! Wyatt and Gillian have been in love since they were young teenagers and have always planned to marry. However, after Wyatt's time in the service and the special experiments conducted on him and his team of shifters he has trouble controlling his bear form and leaves Gillian and everything else behind to live alone in the mountains. The military, however, has other plans for Wyatt and the rest of the special team. Danger, hidden agendas, self doubt and self realization combine to make this a Great book!

Full of Adventure and Suspense

Title: Running Bear
Author: Kit Fawkes
Format: Audio
Narrator: David Quimby
Genre -romance, paranormal, shifter (bear), military, suspense
Standalone: For the most part The couple’s story is complete but the overall storyline is still ongoing
Part of a Series: Wounded Warriors Book 1
POV: Wyatt, Gillian
Steam Level: Warm
4/5

Running Bear is a cute paranormal, shifter romance. It's light on steam (although there is some) and heavy on the suspense. Wyatt is running from himself and away from his mate to protect her. However, when his military team starts disappearing and dying mysteriously Gillian comes to find and warn him. The action and adventure, like this story, moves quick when they become the hunted. I’m intrigued on what’s to come in the larger story.

What's a road trip without action, love,& bears?

Any additional comments?

Wyatt is an army veteran dealing with PTSD. To make matters worse, he’s a bear shape shifter who is trying to deny his wild side. Gillian is his lifelong mate, but brings out the bear in him. Wyatt tries hiding away from life and Gillian until his past threatens to kill them both.

Warning! This is only for grown-ups. There are a couple pretty graphic love scenes. There was a tasteful amount of dirty talk in each one. I scratched my head a bit at one particular piece of the action, but the world is a big place, full of things I’ve never seen before! Both scenes were well timed and enhanced the story. I was driving on the highway alone while listening to an ARC copy of the audiobook, and I found myself glancing out the windows like I was about to get caught! Not my usual fare, but who doesn’t like a romp in the daisies now and then?

It was nice that there was a paranormal element and a relationship that was about adults rather than teens. I think the teen love thing has definitely been overdone. Especially some ancient vampire that looks young fawning over sixteen year old girls. That guy must have never read a book, taken a class, or had life experiences if he found someone so naïve made a compatible partner. Yuck. Wyatt and Gillian were school sweethearts that stayed engaged during his entire military service, they had a refreshing dynamic in this neck of the genre.

I like the whole military group that Wyatt was involved in. It made for a very interesting plot and ended out with plenty of room for sequels. I just scanned the author on Goodreads and see a ton of shapeshifter books, but I think this is the only one in the series so far, makes sense since it was just published four months before my reading/ listening.

This was a short novel and I listened to the whole thing at once. I imagine the ebook version takes most people less than a week to get through. The paperback would make a lousy doorstop.

I hope to see more books in the Wounded Warriors series soon.

Ok read

Is there anything you would change about this book?

For such a short book, it is very slow moving. I like this story but the main character had too many insecurities. Still a good read

Gillian and Wyatt

Wyatt was in the military and something happened to him and the other shifters. There were even tracking devices placed in them and three or four of them had already been killed. Wyatt left his mate Gillian thinking he would protect her but when she shows up at his door 18 months later, they end up finding them. A lot goes on in this short book and it was pretty suspenseful as they are being chased and shot at along with some romance.

David Quimby did a god job with the narration of this book. Although he is not my favorite narrator, he made this work. I received this free copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Shifters and military experiments = bad things

I loved David's narration, he did well with the voices of the female characters and the whole narration had a good pace to it.

The story was well structured and it does a good job of setting up the series by introducing the characters and slowly beginning to reveal the history that links the main characters together. I liked the mating for life concept, especially the fact that they can identify their mate at a fairly young age. I'm interested to see what happens next.

Great Story!

What did you love best about Running Bear?

That he sacrificed himself for her only to realize that he should have stayed with her.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Running Bear?

When Wyatt turned himself in to protect Gillian.

What does David Quimby bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Made the characters seem more alive.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Running doesn't fix your problems even when you are a shifter and love triumphs over all.

Any additional comments?

I listened to this audiobook in one day. It nice to have some options on size of the audiobooks. When I start a book I generally read it till the end I can't usually do that with audiobooks.

Excellent

I got this book via audiobook boom this was a good story and the narrator was excellent. Wyatt as a bear shifter was recruited by the army for a special program but was experimented on instead. Once he and his team got out they were hunted down and the ones that escaped formed sanctuary. This is just the beginning but was well written and no cliffhangers. You know there will be another story.
