Publisher's summary

Nothing is for free when it comes to demons. Gwendolyn LaRoux finds this out the hard way when she summons Laish, a minor demon from the Shadow Lands, to help her cook up a little black magic. Unfortunately black magic has a way of growing, and soon Gwendolyn finds herself drowning in darkness. But when a creature from the Abyss enters our world and threatens her beloved grandmother, Gwendolyn has to admit she needs help - which means summoning the infuriating Laish.

Answering Gwendolyn's incantations in a moment of boredom was a mistake for a demon who keeps what little heart he has left under lock and key. Laish immediately fell for the Creole beauty with jade green eyes and creamy, café au lait skin and now he's determined to have her. And thanks to Gwendolyn's dilemma, the price just went up. When it turns out that the intrepid witch must travel through the Shadow Lands and close the door she left open to the Pit, she knows at once she can't make the journey on her own. Of course Laish is more than willing to act as her escort and bodyguard...for a not-so-small fee.

Gwendolyn doesn't want to use her body as a bargaining chip, but the demon will accept no other form of currency. Because her grandmother's life is at stake, she has no choice. As Gwendolyn and Laish travel into the interior of hell, will he be able to keep her safe? And will she be able to keep her innocence? Or with they lose themselves and each other among the Ruby Shadows?

The best book in this series!

Out of the 4 books I’ve listened to so far this one has been the best. All of them are great though so I suggest starting from book 1. Gwendolyn and Laish’s journey together was a tale of exploration and overcoming fears. Though as in all of this series the H falls 1st and the h fights her own emotions in this book i wasn’t annoyed with the h. She was a lot more open with her desires and would say so out loud. I probably connected more with her character because of the way I was raised I know the internal dialogue that she was struggling with very well. It did end as the others did, by introducing new characters so I’m excited that it means there will be another book! Sadly in audible this is temporarily the end of my journey with this books until the next one is posted. If you’re looking for a steamy romance that doesn’t hold back in sinfully erotic explorations this one will leave you panting for sure! The narrators were on point and made the story come to life!

The struggle between good and evil within ourselves. I cried at the end. I hope there is another installment.

Sexy Hard To Resist Demon & His Witch

If you could sum up Ruby Shadows in three words, what would they be?

Hot Sexy Adventure

What other book might you compare Ruby Shadows to and why?

As exciting and hot as the other books in the series and loved this new world the author has created, each level of Hell was another unique adventure

What does Mackenzie Cartwright and Jeremy York bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I loved having the male and female voices reading their characters perspective, made it so much easier to feel and "see" the characters as I was reading.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

A Hell of A Sexy Hot Ride

Any additional comments?

Evangeline Anderson's imagination mixed with her storytelling skills and phenomenal world building are wonderfully enhanced in these audiobooks. A great paranormal adventure romantica series to read and/or listen to. Listeners will love experiencing having the lead roles read by a male and female narrator.

Dummy

I can see what the other reviewers thought about this dummy. After being told adamantly what not to do, this fool would do the opposite. Deserved everything that could have happened to her. Too bad the Prince of Hades loved this fool. The reason this is a good book is because it elicits emotions in the listener, like how simply dumb this witch is. As a person of color, this character is an insult!

Could Not Stop Listening!!!

OMG! I absolutely love this one. I loved the characters. It makes me think of the Labyrinth mixed with The Lengend and this huge twist of forbidden love. I loved the story and the narrators are amazing! Bobbin is freaking adorable! With the way the author describes everything, it is almost like you are Erin sitting on Gwen's shoulders watching this hole thing unfold. Loved every second of it! I think I repeated chapter 28 like 5 times....wow! I would actually leave work late just so I could be stuck in traffic and listen to this book. Love Evangeline Anderson!

Love the story line. I could not put the book down

Love the two main characters Laish and Gwendolyn. Gwendolyn drove me crazy but her character and interaction with Laish made the story great

Ruby Shadows

This is a favorite "go to" listen both narrators are ideally cast for their characters. However,Jeremy York is so smooth and smokingly sexy in his delivery of the lead male it is breathtaking,Mon ange.

A Journey to Hell and Back!

If you could sum up Ruby Shadows in three words, what would they be?

Deadly, Dangerous and Sinful

What was one of the most memorable moments of Ruby Shadows?

The most memorable moment have to had been when Gwendolyn realized she loves Laish. She fought everything she felt for him/with him throughout the whole journey, so it was great to see her give up her heart to him.

Have you listened to any of Mackenzie Cartwright and Jeremy York ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have listened to the previous books in the series narrated by Mackenzie Cartwright and Jeremy York. Comparing it to the previous books I didn't feel what Mackenzie was reading; I couldn't connect emotionally. I didn't hear the emotions Gwendolyn was feeling, I was just hearing the story. However, when portraying Laish's voice for chapters, I was able to "feel" Laish emotions. I'm not sure why I couldn't connect with Mackenzie's voice in this book because I thought she did a fantastic job narrating the previous books. Jeremy York did a fantastic job portraying Laish, Gwendolyn and other characters in the series voices.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

A moment that moved me in the book was when Gwendolyn finally trusted Laish. I get that Laish was a demon but throughout the whole story all he wanted was for Gwendolyn to trust him and want him as much as he wanted her. He showed her on more than one occasion that she couldn't trust him, so it was great to finally see him get what he worked so hard for and I can say he worked hard because Gwendolyn was one stubborn, frustrating and difficult character. She was by far the most stubborn character in the series thus far.

Any additional comments?

When it comes to paranormal stories, either you love them or hate them. Paranormal books are the type of books I enjoy. However, there is a difference from reading the books and listening to the story. The narration matters tremendously because when listening to it does influence whether or not I will listen to the next book in the series. I must be able to "feel," not only imagine what I'm hearing. I didn't connect with Mackenzie's voice in this book but it doesn't mean I won't connect in the next book. I've enjoyed the previous books, so I would definitely listen to the next book in the series.
