Publisher's summary

I proposed on our first date.

She laughed and told me I was insane. Less than a day later, she said yes.

It was a whirlwind, but we were happy.

Until we got greedy and wanted a family.

It was a life I couldn't give her, not for lack of trying. Fertility just wasn't on our side. We sought out doctors and treatments. Spent money we didn't have. Lied to our families. Smiled for our friends. Put on a brave face for a world that didn't understand.

Finally, we were successful.

Until we were forced to bury our son.

We were left broken, battered, and destroyed.

They say love is in the details, but it was the details that ruined us.

This is the story of how I took back what had always been mine.

The retrieval of my wife and our family.

Woah

I really didn't know what to expect as I didn't read the blurb but someone told me, "I think it's about a couple that had a miscarriage". Imagine my surprise when it was not only so flatly about a couple who had lost a baby, but it was soooo much more.

The love between Elisabeth and Roman was PALPABLE. The alpha manly way that Roman takes his life and his woman back was hot AF. The. There is sooo much more with the side story with Clare. I just had no idea that I would be this sucked into this audio and so incredibly invested in the story. I didn't even want to pause for a review.

Do I even need to mention Jason, Maxine and Andi? We all know they are amazing, we all know they fail at nothing and all they do is win.

A Fantastic Second Chance with Suspense

Wow!! Intense and Passionate.
This is a story like nothing you’ve read before. It’s two stories in one but the stories connect. It’s absolutely easy to follow along and understand and each narrator did a fantastic job expressing their characters emotions and personality.
Aly Martinez really gives you an original.
After losing their child and their marriage, Roman and Elisabeth find out their embryo was switched in the fertility lab.
This will not be an easy case. The family who has their child is ran by one of the richest baddest men in the country and no one comes near his wife and daughter.
This book was edge of your seat exciting and emotional. Loved every minute of it.
Absolutely loved Roman!!!
Highly recommend!!

Loved this book

I love how captivating this book is! It's interesting to hear both perspectives of thoughts and feelings from Elizabeth and Roman...the past and the present! Can't wait to read book two!!

Amazing!

Wow! I don't know if I can find the right words to convey just how much I loved this book. It was heartbreaking which is something I've come to expect from Aly but at the same time it was beautiful and hopeful. It ends in a cliffhanger and luckily the follow up is already out. Narration was 5+ stars, all three narrators make you feel like you are right in the middle of the story.

Loved It!!!

Any additional comments?

This was such an awesome story of second chances. Aly Martinez is such a great author and I love her books. Once Roman set his mind to something he goes full speed ahead. Was not expecting the twist this book took on. Can't wait to read the second book.

Kept me listening to the whole the in one day

Good story. You can connect with the characters easily. Emotional with the abuse and the infertility storyline. I recommend. -Dink

Won me over!

*3.5 stars, rounded up for a great narrating team*

I don't like to think of myself as a romance snob, but when I see a slew of 5-star reviews full of gifs and squee-ing, I immediately get both grumpy and skeptical.

I know, I know, people are allowed to squee in peace without my judgment, but I've been burned badly by the promise of awesomeness from dozens of fan-girling reviews.

This book had a number of strikes against it. For one, people compared this book to a Kristen Ashley. Now, while I've liked a couple KA books in the past, I've also 1 and 2-starred a whole bunch of them. While lots of people go gaga for an alpha male, a bossy, "I'm always right" kind of guy just makes me want to punch them in the face. Don't get me wrong, I see the appeal of a guy in charge, but more often than not, I just get irritated.

Another thing that made me nervous was that this book was part of a "duet." Cliffhanger endings can go die, and I almost didn't read this book because of that. I really hate a cliffy, but I figured that each half was short enough that if I hated it I would call it quits and bow out early.

Also, this book features an established couple... well, a couple having a second-chance. I don't usually like that in romance books. I like the meet-cute situations, seeing a couple's first interactions and going on the whole ride with them. I like the newness, and I usually hate established couples and instalove situations.

Finally, this book is M/F contemporary romance/romantic suspense mash-up, two genres that I struggle with a great deal. I actually hate suspense, and M/F contemporary romance has some of my lowest ratings, so I was expecting to DNF this one, if I'm being honest.

Imagine my surprise when I found myself... liking it.

A big part of that had to do with the very well done narration from the skillful audiobook narrators. They sounded like pros, and I literally couldn't stop listening.

It was a fast-paced story, and I was anxious the entire time. Now, that is usually a bad thing for me, but with this book, I somehow just relaxed into the anxiety, if that makes sense. I accepted it. I also accepted the growly, possessive alpha males for what they were, and I didn't try to think too much about my reactions to them and their bossy ways. I just let myself enjoy the story, and enjoy the story I did.

I liked it so much, in fact, that I bought the sequel right away. At FULL PRICE no less. I mean, full price from me deserves 4-stars, without question. Sure, it isn't the best book I've ever read, but it entertained me and that's all I ask for in a book.

So good!

This book was fantastic. Aly Martinez did a really good job of bringing us into the story. I felt everything to hilarity, actual laughing out loud to some really heartbreaking, crying in my cereal, kind of sadness.

Narrators were mostly really good:

It was an interesting way to narrate, though, I would have preferred Andi Arndt read all the female parts for this one. I have a hard time listening to Maxine MItchell

Jason Carpenter - 5stars
Andi Arndt -5 stars
Maxine Mitchell -3 stars -she's pretty whiny and she hitches a lot, it's difficult to listen. Luckily she didn't read enough to distract from the story

Duet #1

Roman and Elisabeth’s story is so heart wrenching. All the misunderstandings that lead to the worst. I was hooked from the 1st page. And then to have Claire’s ordeal thrown in the mix, makes you want to climb into the book and do some damage to the thug yourself.

I enjoyed this so much. Read the two books as one. Duet #1 was really good, great narration, great storyline. Gripping, loving, all out a good read.
