Publisher's summary

Destitute and determined to finally be free of any man's shackles, Lily Benedict sets out to salvage her honor. With no choice but to commit a crime that will save her from her past, she enters the home of the recluse Derek Winters, the new Duke of Blackthorne. But entering the "Beast of Blackthorne's" lair proves more threatening than she ever imagined.

With half a face and a mangled leg, Derek - once rugged and charming - only exists within the confines of his home. Shunned by society, Derek is leery of the hauntingly beautiful Lily Benedict. As time passes, she slips past his defenses, reminding him how to live again. But when Lily's sordid past comes back, threatening her life, it's up to Derek to find the strength to become the hero he once was. Can they overcome the darkness of their sins to find a life of love and redemption?

One of my favorites by Caldwell

Loved this audiobook! I’ve read or listened to 20+ of Caldwell’s books and this ranks right up there. The main characters were unique and interesting. They had some pretty big hurtles to overcome with some great plot twists as well.

There were a couple questionable plot points, I.e. actions that seemed out of character. Won’t give up spoilers here, but the female main character Lily seemed too smart to make a certain bad decision late in the story.

Very entertaining, I highly recommend. Love Tim Campbell’s narration as usual!

Suspenseful

I don’t know how it is possible for the author to write a wonderful series of books that has an underlying fabric of pain an sorrow so that each book is vastly different from each other. This book has many twists and turns and it was a beautiful story of love and forgiveness.

Best Regency

This was a great story. Reminded me of beauty and the beast. The last quarter was especially emotional and gripping. I will definitely seek out more from this author.

Might Be The Best So Far

This book reminds me of beauty and the beast. It has a lot of heartache that is understandable, and once you read/listen to this book I know you will enjoy this one as well.

Right up there as one of her best

Caldwell's books have such rich story lines ands characters. I have only found one book tedious, but is not that book. agre keeps the tension high throughout, ands makes us care about her characters. once of her best.

Scars - Visible and Invisible

Derek Winters has returned from the war terribly scarred, both inside and out. Half his face is disfigured, his body bears the marks of burns, and one leg isn’t able to support him. All the fault of another soldier, his former best friend. Lily Benedict carries the guilt of an action that has scarred her life. Having given herself to a man who promised marriage, she found herself, at the age of 15, thrown out of the house and disowned by her father.

Lily has been given an opportunity for a lifetime of security, which is all that she wants and more than she believes she deserves. All she has to do is once again violate her conscience and commit a crime, against the Duke of Blackthorne, Derek Winters.

There were several times this story had me on the edge of my seat. I was torn by the gut-wrenching choices Lily had to make. Fear drove both of them to different responses, both self-destructive.

What I like about this book is its gritty portrayal of the toll that life has taken on the characters. Their emotions are honest and often painful. It has a great storyline that could easily be set in modern times.

The Audible version is narrated by Tim Campbell, who does a great job with the male voices, especially the Duke. His female voices aren’t that good. Lily often sounds whiny and high-pitched.

A great story of redemption.

This was a beautiful story. The only drawback was the repetitiveness of the individuals musings.

Lords of Honor Book 3 Not much story line.<br />

The story started out fine and then it was slow. There was too much repetition of Lily's demeaning herself all the time.

Story can be half it's length

So much repetitious mind babble. Same words over and over and over to the point it was maddening. This book was definitely not for me. Beauty and the beast beaten over the head.

Tim Campbell was horrid!

Melodramatic from beginning to end.
I almost stopped listening several times.
Too sappy and overdone!
Don’t waste your time!
