Publisher's summary

An indie phenomenon and a New York Times and USA Today best seller, the first in a heartwrenching new adult series about a beautiful young sports rehab specialist who can't fight her attraction to a dangerously sexy underground fighter - a fallen boxer.

A woman with a broken dream.

A competition…

He even makes me forget my name.

One night was all it took, and I forgot everything and anything except the sexy fighter in the ring who sets my mind ablaze and my body on fire with wanting…

Remington Tate is the strongest, most confusing man I've ever met in my life. He's the star of the dangerous underground fighting circuit, and I'm drawn to him as I've never been drawn to anything in my life. I forget who I am, what I want, with just one look from him. When he's near, I need to remind myself that I am strong - but he is stronger. And now it's my job to keep his body working like a perfect machine, his taut muscles primed and ready to break the bones of his next opponents...

But the one he's most threatening to now, is me. I want him. I want him without fear. Without reservations... If only I knew for sure what it is that he wants from me?

5 SERIOUSLY SMOKING HOT INTENSE STARS!!!

One thing I do have to say is that this book is intense!  I was so absorbed in this book, that when it came to the end I wanted to start back at the beginning! When listening to this book, be prepared. Cold showers, panty changes, or other forms of...stress relievers may be needed. We're talking sexual frustration here. Don't get me wrong, these two were sizzling! It just seemed something or someone just kept getting in the way. Hell, Remington himself got in the way but he had his own reasons for that. Reasons that made perfect sense once explained later. Not that it made the sexual tension any less torture! The book starts out with Brooke being dragged to an underground fight one night with her best friends Melanie. Brooke isn’t the type of girl that usually goes to these types of things. She is a recent college grad and focusing on career in sports medicine/therapy. Brooke spent most of her life training for the Olympics, until she hurt her knee. Now she is just interested in helping other athletes. While watching the last fight, she see’s someone that gets her attention. Remington. He notices her right away in the cheering crowd. He knows right away she's special and wants her. Brooke receives tickets for another fight to see Remington. She starts talking herself into having a one night stand with him, because let's face it, she wants him. But he actually has a different offer all together, and next thing Brooke knows she's on the road with him. Remington “Riptide” Tate is the king of the underground boxing circuit. He’s beautiful, strong and easily the best piece of eye candy any woman will find. Brooke & Remy are inseparable. The longer together, the more the sexual tension between them builds... and builds... and builds... It makes you ready to combust, along with Brooke! The sexual tension in this book was un-freaking-believable! Eventually we got some major SMEXY scenes... Seriously! On the gym mats, shower, bed, anywhere and everywhere. Remy cannot get enough. The reason I love the character of Remington "Riptide" Tate was because of his animal magnetism, his possesiveness, loyalty, agression, vulnerability, and most important he was "Real!" The intensity of this man is off the charts!!  Katy Evans has created a very well written, seductive and passionate love story. Nothing in the story was roses and perfection. The road to HEA was a complete struggle with heartache and pain. The only thing I didn’t like was that it had to end. I’m very anxious for more and can hardly wait for audible to release the next book!

Can we say "clenched"???

I can't understand all the rave reviews for this book (on Audible and other book review websites). There are so many problems with it. I will just name a few here. The narrator was absolutely AWFUL. I will never buy another book narrated by her. The author's treatment of Remi's decision not to take medication for his bipolar disorder is very disturbing. He didn't want to poison his body with toxins, but apparently he didn't think it was a big deal to wreak havoc on his team members' lives, destroy property and be unpredictably violent when he was "speedy". Nice trade-off, huh? Interesting side note - apparently Brooke (who is portrayed as being practically virginal) didn't have a problem poisoning her own body with a birth control implant. What's the underlying message there? And parents can just abandon their minor child to a psychiatric hospital w/o any legal action taken against them? Really??? Also, no explanation was ever given for the postcards coming in from all over the world to Brooke's parents from her sister Nora. That really bugged me. And seriously - Nora does a month in rehab for cocaine addiction and comes out all picture perfect! Sooooo "realistic", huh? Exactly how much money does a boxer make in the underground circuit? Seems to me that Remi was living very large (not to mention all the bills he had to pay for trashed hotel rooms and other property damage). Since I'm not familiar with the underground boxing circuit, my only frame of reference is professional boxing. Champs in that sport can make a lot of money, but the author never addressed this issue as far as the underground boxing circuit is concerned. Another thing that really made me want to scream - Remi wakes up from a coma and Brooke immediately starts ranting at him. The guy has a tube down his throat and can't even respond to her angry tirade. Did anyone else want to throttle her at that point? I could go on.....but I will wind it up with these last two comments. The word "clenched" was so overused that I hope I never hear it again ANYWHERE. And being inside Brooke's head for hours on end almost made me develop a mental health problem.

RIPTIDE! Awesome... and super smexy!

This was really really good. Actually, this was Awesome...! I thought I was gonna be really irritated with all the angst from Remy and Brooke not hooking up when they totally wanted each other...but the angst was soo hot, I got my fix without the smex scene coming to a completion (if you know what I mean)...

When we find out the reason behind all the Remy pushing Brooke away, or not really pushing her away, but not giving in... Man O Man... I was taken a back! I knew it was gonna be something good... And the fact that after Brooke finds out, Remy didn't change to be all healed and whole... It was great... and added depth to the story.

Remy remain... well Remy, struggle with all his issues...and Brooke...well she coped... And the end! WHAT!!! I knew the ending was gonna be a shocker...

I really hope there is a book 2... I want more of Remy and Brooke sooo bad!

The only reason this isn't a 5 is because I wish the narration was just a bit better. It was good, not great. A little bit more of a distinction between some of the voices would have made this even better... It was still good...just not great...

A good Credit, Sale or Buy... Either one... you will be happy with your purchase...

RIPTIDE!!!!

Hot Hitter

Talk about making girl wait. I thought I was gonna implode before Remington quit being stubbon and finally made love to poor Brooke. I do love a book that drags my emotions along with such intensity. This one delivers. I feel the emotion, passion and longing. This is why I love a good book. I will be sure to keep my eye out for this author. It's a very creditworthy addition to your library.

INTENSE, RAW, ABSOLUTLELY FANTASTIC!!

I loved everything about this book--narration, storyline, characters (lead & supporting), EVERYTHING. It's intense, sexually charged, emotional, heartbreaking, and worth every penny and second you spend listening to it. I love an alpha male/strong heroine type of story, but this one paints the alpha and love interest as challenged and scarred by life circumstances that have broken them down inside; but they find themselves and literally save each other through love and acceptance. In terms of intensity, there was a lot of 'build up' to when they finally get together. When it finally happens--YOWZA!!--it's EXPLOSIVE, but so delicious! I've already purchased the other two books and can't wait to see what happens next with these colorful characters. Definitely credit worthy, but it is reasonably priced so you could purchase it out right. Happy listening, you won't be disappointed.

WOW x 10

As I started this listen, right from Chapter 1, it had that feeling of being something good and by Chapter 4 I had downloaded the other two books that are (so far) available in the series because it was just that good.... captivating, intense, emotional and a passionate love story. Remy, the sexy successful Fighter hero is at the top of his game with an eight pack, drool-worthy good looks, a well toned sexy body and, as soon as he sets eyes on Brooke, their sizzling chemistry simply ignites the charts.

His tenderness, devotion, jealousies and deep desire for Brooke will steal your breath away then, with his vulnerabilities, the heartache and his utter selfless commitment to her in the end will have you eagerly tearing your beating heart out and happily tossing it his way.

Worth a credit? It's everything you want from a good listen... a well-written descriptive plot with action, angst, a villain, tension, passion, sex, heartache, a great selection of secondary characters and a love story that will leave you emotionally drained but oh so eager for the story to continue. Very creditworthy but I got it on sale so saved my credits but I would willingly spend them on this fantastic and enjoyable series about the trials and tribulations if two people who just can't live without each other... no matter what obstacles fate puts their way.

I Wanted To Love This Book

Maybe I just expected too much because of the reviews. To sum up how I feel right now I will say this........
STOP with the FEELINGS already! So I read only one bad review about this book and in summary it basically said they wanted more substance to the relationship and it was all really about sex.......so my first thought was "sign me up" Reviews like that are EXACTLY why I buy books (so sluty of me I know) However, what that reader really meant to say was less feelings and MORE talking! I don't understand why authors write a book from 1st person POV yet the main character pretty much narrates the entire book and lets us know a MILLION times every time she takes a deep breath, has a shiver, goose bumps, she is wet ect.
Nobody in this books talks. Any time any character in this book asked a question the author wrote 5-6 paragraphs about the main character's feelings towards him and what her answer will be.
Why I still gave this book 3 stars because the main character did have a good sense of humor and when the book got steamy (finally at 55%) it really got steamy! It was also a well written book for people who like Narrative books and LOTS and LOTS of feeling. The plot was also really good!
I still think it's worth reading if you can get past the things I have listed. I never want to steer anyone away from buying a book, its just one person's opinion. I will listen the next book in the series. The Narrator did a good job with the delivery of the story.

Eye Opening to the torments of Menal Illness

Before reading this book, I had no idea how tormenting Bi-Polar could be for someone plagued by it. And the idea that a woman could willingly take on a relationship knowing that the man she loves is tormented in this way left me in awe. I couldn't have done it, but the heroine of this book did! In her ignorance, she made a few mistakes with RipTide, but I was left with the notion that she'd learn how to live with the effects Bi-Polar can create.
This is a very different love story. It starts out rather slow and I almost decided not to listen to it because the narration was mono toned. However, give it time, because it does pick up and you won't be disappointed. Brook and Rip Tide share a bond as dedicated, disciplined athletes. However, both are also damaged and this story tells how they embrace those and their union makes both of their lives better.
I enjoyed this book. I did listen to it in one session. Thank goodness I'm retired and have the time to do such a thing.
There were times I wondered if Rip Tide was beyond being able to live with, but you'll see how that's concern is squashed as you listen.
It's very erotic and this listen is done strongly from the female's experiences. Different, but very interesting and well done.

On the way to Greatness

Sometimes a great book is nearly ruined by a bad ending, and sometimes an OK book is made great by a fantastic ending. The latter is what happened with this particular novel. I applaud Miss Evans for her great talent for sensual detail, this woman has a great ability to make her readers/listeners literally feel and experience what her heroine is going through along with a way of building suspense, sexual or otherwise, is quite astonishing. But I hope she has paid attention to the reviews for editing the sequel because the only thing that kept me from giving this novel 5 stars was the excessive insight to Brooke's head and her bodily reactions to Remington. I always prefer audio books but even if I was recommending this to an avid reader I would say, "Don't read it, listen to it, because otherwise you might not make it to the WONDERFULLY INCREDIBLE ending!" As a listener over a reader I have the choice to tune out the long winded parts and check back in when this brilliant romance takes off again, and I reiterate, at its core this story is a BRILLIANT ROMANCE. Brooke is strong and willful and at times made me laugh out loud during this intense plot, and Remington....Oh Remington...ladies he really really makes this book worth your while, please trust me. I'm married but wish I could still meet a man like him because the way his character is portrayed just makes me want to know him. My hopes for the second novel is to learn more about the Alpha Hero, Remi, and that Miss Evans spends more time with her awesome supporting characters rather inside Brooke's head. If you are interested in something steamy, tantalizing, and heart wrenchingly suspenseful go ahead and use credit/buy now, despite this novels small flaws its worth knowing what it means be someone's REAL.
