Editorial reviews

Sultry actress Ashley Litz sizzles with passion and suspense in this hotly anticipated sequel. Predestined reunites listeners with high school heroine Pagan - imbued with the unique ability to see souls - and her dark, dashing boyfriend Dank, aka Death. In the second installment of Existence, Pagan’s former fling, quarterback Leif Montgomery, mysteriously vanishes. Already experiencing disturbing visions from her childhood, Pagan’s angst is further aroused by Dank’s unsettling assertion that Leif has no soul. When her erstwhile ex returns, Pagan must make a heartbreaking decision. Throughout, Litz lusts and lilts with heart-melting heat. Her range and role-playing is as uncanny as the story itself, whether she’s playing small-voiced seven-year-old Pagan, naïve and vulnerable, or booming with lordly masculinity as dark, devilish, and dreamy Dank.

Publisher's summary

You would think after helping save her boyfriend from an eternity in Hell that things would go back to normal. Well, as normal as life can be when you can see souls and your boyfriend is Death. But for Pagan Moore, things are just getting weirder.

The high school quarterback and reigning heartthrob, Leif Montgomery, is missing. While the town is in a frenzy of worry, Pagan is a nervous wreck for other reasons. Apparently good ‘ol Leif isn’t your average teenage boy. He isn’t even human. According to Death, Leif doesn’t have a soul. The quarterback may have skipped town but he’s still showing up in Pagan’s dreams... uninvited.

Dank has known from the beginning Leif wasn’t human. But he hadn’t worried about a simple soulless creature. Now, he realizes he made a grave mistake. Pagan’s soul has been marked since birth as a restitution, to a spirit so dark not even Death walks near it. Dank knows saving Pagan’s soul won’t be easy but Pagan is his. And he’s already proven he’ll defy Heaven to keep her. If Hell wants a piece of him too, then bring it on.

excellent story, annoying narration and awful sing

Would you consider the audio edition of Predestined to be better than the print version?

No

What did you like best about this story?

Pagan and dank. But not dank's singing. Shudder.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

With the God awful voices of G and Miranda. This isn't Anime. No need to squeal and cackle and screech.

Great story BUT!!!!

I really like these books like ALOT! Has a great story line! HOWEVER the narrators voice is CRINGYYYYY!!!! I stopped listening twice in the first book because I couldn’t stand her voice for all the female rolls in the book!!!! I’m on book two and my husband makes me put my headphones in because he says the readers voice is annoying! And I was glad to hear I wasn’t the only one who thought that! I like the story line so I’m pushing through it but mannnn it’s tough sometimes when all the female rolls are “conversing”

I love the story

So cute I still love everything about the book and progression of each character but my god could t she at least tone down the best friends voice I have to skip as much as I can to avoid bleeding from the ears! And G’s voice isn’t any better 😖 other than that amazing performance and I can’t wait to hear the ending.

Just Ok....

I love all of Abbi's other series, especially the Sea Breeze books. This story was ok - just hard to get into. I wanted to care, I really did, but the story line fell short somehow. I really had a hard time with the whole idea of her loving "death", and the voodoo world creeped me out. The narrator did a great job with the main character, but she ruined the other characters. She made Miranda and G completely irritating. I don't think I am going to finish the series....

I am having trouble with the reader.

These books also seem too childish even for a teenager to read, but it could be the bad voices.

Suggest reading the story and not listening to it.

I liked the story, but not the narration. I very much disliked the voices for the different characters.

Not a fan of Pagan

The book kept me interested enough but I have to admit the heroine got on my nerves. Will continue the series since I do want to see how it ends.

ugh Pagan and Dank are not better in this book.

I HATED Dank in the first book and he gets no redemption in this book. If he really loved her he would have stepped back long ago and let her move on. Lief is a decent guy but she would rather be with the toxic guy she can't even kiss literally death. The negative portrait of Voodoo showed ignorance on the author's part. The narrator was good but needs to work on some things. I was unable to wear earbuds or listen while my baby was asleep because her voice was too screechy.

I enjoyed the series, but....

The series was great however, what rubbed me the very wrong way was the mentioning and depiction of Voodoo in the storyline. I'm sure the author doesn't know anything about the African religion accept what Hollywood and the Western world ideology has portrayed. She should be careful and not talk about things she does not understand, it is and can be very offensive to people who practice this form of African Spirituality and for those who know and identify with it. The religion should be respected not misrepresented, furthering ignorance. Thank you.

controlling disguised as love?

the story in itself isn't terrible, the promotion of toxic relationships disguised as love is the biggest problem with this series. not the worst I've seen but definitely blatant.
