Dear Hayley,

I'm assuming you're still hungover, so I'll make this brief.

Last night, you slipped under my sheets (without my permission), and we almost had sex. I got the hell out of the bed once I realized it was you, and I took you home.

That's the story.

The end.

Period.

Just in case you've forgotten, you're my best friend's little sister. We will never be anything more. (We can't be anything more.) Our previous friendship is still unresolved - or "over", in your terms, so I'd prefer if we worked on becoming just friends again since you're in town.

Nonetheless, I'm not a man who leaves questions unanswered - even the drunken ones, so to properly close our inappropriate conversation:

1) Yes, I liked the way your lips felt against mine when you were on top of me.

2) Yes, I do "prefer" rough sex, but I'm pretty sure I wasn't rough with you.

3) No, I had no idea you were still a virgin....

This message never happened,

Corey

Heroine is an Idiot

This story had no depth. You can't root for the heroine because she seems to have no strength of character or conviction. I understand why they didn't want to tell her brother about them but what kind of grown ass woman just doesn't show-up for work, blows off important meeting and doesn't even do a half-ass job at her own brother's company. She was given every chance to shine and did nothing with the chance. I understand this isn't her dream job but she screwed that up by not coming up with a good business plan. She could've put her coffee/wine bar anywhere except Seattle and it would've gain a following and Starbuck's might not have been able to steal her customers. Either way she was an idiot. I'm usually a fan of Whitney G. but this a skip-it. Glad I didn't use a credit on it.

Really disappointed

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

A better story - it’s didnt have any depth and not a feel good love story for sure.

What could Whitney G. have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

It was crude, no development of a story, flighty. The characters flip their emotions on a dime.

How could the performance have been better?

The differences of the characters was distracting- Jonathan performed by the male was terrible.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointed, I preordered it because I liked the summary.

Any additional comments?

I don’t mind a explicit love story but this one really turned me off. This was my first by this author and sorry to say, my last.

DNF - hated the herione

Ugh. I hated this story. The heroine is an idiot. From the start I had no empathy for her. I could not root for her. The final straw was after her brother found out. She was worried about him finding out which was why they chose to keep the relationship a secret. She made no concerted effort to hide it though. And when her man comes home with a black eye, she has no idea how it happened. “Did you fall?” Idiot!!! Vapid, stupid, inconsiderate. DNF.

Disappointment

I really like most of Whitney G.'s books, but this one was a disappointment. The Hayley was an total airhead. I didn't understand why she let her brother tell her what to do, of course, she really didn't do him any favors either. She took his money but didn't give much in return. I really didn't care for Jonathan at all. He was a terribly controlling person. I couldn't understand why his fiance wanted to marry him with the way he was always fighting with her. And Cory was a complete idiot for letting Jonathan dictate his relationship with Hayley. He should have told Jonathan to get lost. This whole book was just a mess. Non of the characters were likable.

A solid Whitney G listen!

The story was captivating and enticing. The writing, as always, very well thought out. The narration was great! All things that make Whitney G audios always stellar.

Vast disappointment

this story is simply upsetting. I have nothing positive to say other than the narration was good. MM is one of the better female readers. the story itself - YUK. not at all what I think of when I think of this author. Sadness on top of sadness, every character here abused and taken advantage of for years. the h (female lead) was just a bad person: lying to and stealing from her brother, not showing up to meetings and work repeatedly because she knew she could get away with it, not paying her bills, temperamental and spoiled. terrible book.

Brothers Best Friend

It was ok. Not what I was expecting after loving my first book by her. I'm a sucker for a best friend's brother romance and like reading about Hayley and Corey's past together. It was even cute when they actually got together, but something was missing. It felt rushed and they got together so fast that it was hard to really enjoy them finally getting together after loving each other for so long. I also didn't like that Hayley was absorbed in Corey that she ignored everything else in life. Her brother paid for everything for her and I thought she was going to grow up and go after what she wanted on her own, but no. She doesn't focus on getting her life together at all and even becomes negligent in her job that her brother gave to her. Anyways I really love listening to Maxine Mitchell and Lorenzo Matthews was also good.

Not my cup of tea!

Just as many others, I love this author and will continue to support. I debated leaving this review because we all like different things but seems I'm not alone here. The brother's voice, the first time I heard it, I thought it was a joke, someone making fun of him... simply awful. The story has no beginning and no end.
SPOILER....
SPOILER...
SPOILER...
You never find out why the brother and fiancée fought so much, the bride's daughters are just as obnoxious as the "heroine". The heroine? Annoying and unrelatable! She doesn't want people to know she is the sister so they don't think he treats her different, but then she is all over the place with not an ounce of work ethic, missing meetings she is supposed to attend ON BEHALF of the CEO? Yeah, that wouldn't fly, and her love interest has no regards for her lack of commitment to the job either. There are so many things missing from the story, that reading the whole thing leaves you with as much to desire as if you just read the summary.

Not my favorite

This might have been my least favorite book by this author. I don't know that there was anything wrong with it, but I didn't connect with the characters or their story. The back and forth timeline wasn't as bad/tedious as I usually find it, in fact, I think I may have enjoyed the time in the past more than the present. I don't know if the brother/best friend has his own book, but he came off as a jerk to both main characters, and it wasn't ever really explained why he was that way. I listened to the audiobook, and it was well done, that was probably the only reason that I finished, because I'm not sure I would have if I'd been reading it, it just wasn't that interesting to me as a story.
