Publisher's summary

Multiple award-winning author Sophia James pens scorching hot romances her eager fans devour. In One Unashamed Night, reclusive Lord Taris Wellingham shuns the possibility of intimate relationships. His traveling companion, 28-year-old Beatrice Maude Bassingstoke, on the other hand, doesn’t expect to attract a man as handsome as Taris. But when they are forced to spend the night together during a snowstorm, passion erupts between them as they lay in each other’s arms. And when the night ends, a new day of love dawns before them.

Wonderful!!! A++

Would you listen to One Unashamed Night again? Why?

Yes! A very pleasing story to the soul.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I'm torn between the two lead characters. Bea was so level headed and calm throughout, that it is was easy to step into her shoes and understand, and feel the emotions in every decision she made. Then there was Taris, to whom made an every day life seem so simple to those around him, yet you also felt the anguish in his every decision to help him get to the next step in life. Two very powerful characters living such afflicted lives - wonderful to follow!

What does Simone Phillips bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The narrator was wonderful. Very pleasing to follow each transition and I felt enveloped within the saga in the first five minutes. With listening to over 300 audiobooks over the last two years....that's a HUGE thing!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I did! It was very powerful to me to have the step by step action flow within the story. I could feel the anguish, the happiness, the pain, the sorrow, and most of all, the passion without needing such explicit details that some stories feel necessary to paint their pictures. With this, the painting was made with delicate strokes, embellished to bring the emotions to the forefront of the moment and then receeding back to a broad, all-embracing structure built out to simply carry the charaters on to the next. Fun ride!

Any additional comments?

I highly recommend this story if you love historical romance. This is a very passionate story without the smut, but filled with all the necessary butterflies and warmth as needed to make a girl smile!

Yikes

I rolled my eyes so often I got a headache. I wish I were joking. The unbelievability of this book is breathtaking.

This is a true bodice-ripper, in a sort of overly dramatic, slow way. But maybe that was the narrator, who had a real flare for earnest intensity. I actually like Simone Phillips, and think she has a lovely voice, but sheesh, the solemnity with which she read was like listening to a funeral march. Aaaand, that just made the ridiculousness of how many times Bea thought about her various body parts, well, ridiculous.

DNF. Sorry.

Lovely listen

Every once in a while, I'm in the mood for a romantic story with a carefully crafted narration. Here, the two fit together like a hand in a glove.

There are a few books that fit the bill -- mostly read by Rosalyn Landor. There are others, such as The Proposal by Mary Balogh, and Three Nights of Sin by Anne Mallory. This book is another. It isn't silly or sweet, or overly dramatic. But sexy and deeply soulful. It's a story about adults who fall into love. And it's so refreshing after all the high tension books I tend to read, to just take a pause and breathe. This is a keeper.

I love this book!

This is one of my favorite books to read or listen to. I just love the story, the characters, the narrator, just everything. Once in awhile a story will just appeal to your vision of romance, and you don't mind the time you spend lost in it. I have read the other books in the series to flesh out the story. I just feel soothed when I am done reading or listening to this book.

GREAT STORY AND GREAT NARRATION!!!!!

Would you consider the audio edition of One Unashamed Night to be better than the print version?

I don't know, I've not read the print version. This was a really good story and I think I would like either the print or the audio.

What was one of the most memorable moments of One Unashamed Night?

I thought that when Beatrice thought that Taris had a drinking problem was the most memorable. It was actually kind of funny.

Have you listened to any of Simone Phillips’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I've only listened to the other book in this series. But I thought that Simone did a great job and I would definitely listen to other books narrated by her.

Any additional comments?

I wish there were more books by Sophia James available on Audible. I think she tells a great story and is creative with her characters.

Engaged from the Beginning - Refreshing Narrator

The hero, Taris, is partially blind and fears he is losing his independence; Bea's spirit has been distorted from a terrible marriage. This little peek into Taris and Bea's story is a journey towards accepting who they.

Simone Phillips does such an excellent job with the characters that I was engaged from the start. Her reading and acting was perfect for the story line. It didn't feel forced when she read the hero's parts. Great inflection when she read both hero and heroine. Can't wait until she does more historical romances.

A night of passion...so much promise but I have to say soon after that first night I find myself distracted and hoping for the story to pick up but it never does.

Loved it!

A true romance. Finding love is difficult and depends on trust. Can a chance meeting bring two lost souls together?
