Publisher's summary

He is seeking absolution.

Flynn Caldwell has a hero complex, and it's one of the reasons he joined the New York City Fire Department. He has spent his entire professional career trying to atone for that one person he failed to save. Because if he can do that, then perhaps he can be worthy of love again.

She is seeking escape.

Rowan Page's life is nothing short of a disaster. Always immersed in trouble, she has only herself to depend on. She's determined to pull herself out of this mess and make something of her life, despite the hard years she has lived on the streets of New York.

Together, they have the chance to become complete.

Flynn and Rowan's worlds exist miles apart, but when a chance meeting brings them together, neither of them can deny the instant pull that connects them to each other. What starts as a tiny spark eventually flares into a fire so hot it refuses to be extinguished. For it to work, both of them will need to jump feet first into the flames to see where it takes them, despite the risk of being burned.

This is book five in the Off Series. While certain characters cross over from the Off Books, you do not need to hear the prior books to understand this one. This can be heard as a standalone.

Great story from the very beginning

Right from the beginning it grabbed my attention. Great story and narration and loved the update on the characters at the end too.

Flynn and Rowan

This story solidified that the series was NOT just a hockey sports series with a few random spinoffs thrown in. Flynn is the firefighter brother and Rowan is a mystery woman doing all she could to remain anonymous, their initial run-in set the stage in the best of ways for the rest of the book. I've got to say it was one of my favorites in the series thus far.
Charlotte North and Matthew Holland have absolutely solidified themselves as the voices of this series. Their ability to make each character in each of these stories unique just proves how talented they are as narrators.

Flynn’s Story

Flynn is Nixon’s cousin from the book “Off the Record” and brother to Renner from “Off Course”.
He saves Rowan when he rescues her in an apartment fire. Someone had chained her to a bed and drugged her.
Flynn also suffers from a savior complex, hoping to ease his guilt over his girlfriend from high school dying in a house fire.
True to his nature he offers Rowan his spare bedroom as a place to regroup and recover.
There is much angst throughout the book mostly on Rowan’s part. She went back and forth on wanting Flynn, having copious sex with him, to wanting to be “just friends”, no benefits included. Truthfully I tired of the many times she pulled Flynn’s chain to the point of whiplash. Her last time of wanting the friends only relationship was one time too many. It seemed to this listener that the story was just being drawn out to meet the criteria of a book. I was bored to the point that I was hoping Flynn would meet someone who would REALLY appreciate his goodness and ditch Rowan.
As always, Matthew Holland’s performance was spot on.
So far, this was my least favorite book of this series, which is too bad because Flynn deserved a better story.

Great Book!

Terrific, somewhat unusual story with some twists and turns. I have a soft place in my heart for firefighters, and I absolutely loved Flynn! I really struggled with the female lead character though. She drove me crazy and I definitely lost patience with her! Charlotte North and Matthew Holland both gave excellent performances! They were very enjoyable to listen to.

💜💜💜💜💜

I simply can not get enough of this series; the narrators are phenomenal! They both do a great job of bringing them characters to life; but Matthew Holland is amazing ~ his accent range is the best I've heard & I've listened to several different narrators over the years! Can hardly wait to start the next book ...

Flynn and Rowan rock

You won’t be disappointed in this book. The series is amazing and the way Ms Bennett carries each book into the next so flawlessly is awesome! Flynn has a hero complex and Rowan is just the girl to help him heal from his past hurt and him Hers. I couldn’t stop listening to it to see what happened next.

Another lovely story in the Off series

Love this story of a NYPD fireman who rescued a woman trapped in a fire. His big heart overcame her insecurities and fears of loving him due to her past. The narrators were great though the New York accent wasn’t always consistent.

I love Flynn and Rowen's story. Narration was good. This was such a good slow burn!

Well done!

Great addition to this series. I love that this series has a bit of drama but nothing that drags on. I really loved this couple and all the things they learn along the way!

a little far fetched

THe author has a good writing style - good flow, believable dialogue, well-paced story. The details of the heroine's life with her drug dealing boyfriend were sketchy and not well thought through. Once the heroine gets together with the hero, the storyline gets more believable.

The male narrator was very good, and I enjoyed the accent he used. The female narrator, who I generally enjoy, was a bit too perky for this character. This girl had a shadowed past and a lot of anger, but the narrator didn't manage to convey the anger or fear.

Overall, the story was interesting and unique, one you won't have encountered before. This was definitely not a formulaic romance. Kudos! Worth the time and money to read it.
