Publisher's summary

Tyler Murphy was an LAPD detective, single and happy - until a near-fatal tragedy crippled his friend, fellow detective Eric Catalano. While Tyler supported Eric, he also became a shoulder for Eric's wife, Delaney, to lean on. But with one naughty suggestion from Eric, a drunken night with Delaney spilled into erotic abandon. Before it was over, Tyler saw his best friend's wife as a woman and yearned for more. When Eric struggled to deal with the aftermath, Delaney begged Tyler to leave.

Crushed, he fled to Louisiana, hoping to escape his longing for the one woman he could never have again...and unaware of what he'd left behind. After two years of living with regret, Tyler finds Delaney on his doorstep, her husband having abandoned her long ago. She's protecting a shocking secret and desperately needs refuge from a stalker determined to see her dead.

As they fight to stay alive and catch the killer, they struggle to resolve the guilt of their past pleasures. But they can't deny that what was once a spark is now a flame burning out of control. To possess Delaney - body and soul - Tyler must heal her pain and thwart the evil that's a mere breath behind her.

I can’t believe it

I’m such a fan of this series. As soon as it was available for pre-order I immediately ordered it. I'm so accustomed to hot dominate men with intense sexual escapades and a damsel in distress. I got a hot man of course. I also got a damsel in distress. I got NONE of the chemistry I had got in the previous 5 books. Please don’t write a book just to get another one out there. I want the intensity of previous books. Not a “filler” book.

This one felt like one just put together to appease the demand. It doesn’t stand out like the others did. It’s a very predictable book with predictable sexual situations. In my opinion I wasted my credit and that’s something I would have never thought I’d say on this series.
Don't waste your credit on this one. It's just too insipid.

A 3.5 STAR LISTEN - ENJOYABLE BUT NOT HER BEST

At the start of this I was quite enjoying it, as I had done with all the previous books in the series, but sadly it soon became a bit repetitive and I slowly became disinterested with the characters and the outcome then halfway through it picked up again.

It was a totally implausible cheesy plot but, as with a lot of these types of books, it had it's good parts and so it was also hot, entertaining and enjoyable about memories, forgiveness and fresh starts.

That is apart from my 2 main eye-rolling bugs - 1) Del's initial and continual mental insecurities of Tyler and then Tyler's mental anguish of how can he show her he's changed over and over and over again. Then 2) Del - why didn't she initially find a way to contact him after 'that night' (no spoilers here) and one minute she was so strong and clever then the next minute she did stupid stupid things and needed Tyler to help her out. (But I guess if it was written my way it would all of been over by page 50 !!).

Worth a credit? It was a yes - no - yes listen but if you've listened to the others in the series then why stop now and I guess it's a YES from me.

Finally, Tyler!

Another damsel in distress seeks protection from a smokin'-hot, big, strong alpha male. Was that a complaint? No, not at all. While all of the books in this series are HOT and steamy, this one is a little tamer in some ways. This one is not about how the woman needs to either change her perceptions and accept that her man must have her his way or hit the highway, and I liked that it was more of an emotion-driven book with great sex than a sex-driven book with some emotions thrown in as accessories. Not that those types of books don't have their time and place, but I guess I was more in the mood for this one right now.

I have been waiting for Tyler to have a HEA since Delicious. When his old "friend," Delaney, shows up on his front door with some heavy personal drama and in imminent danger, Tyler mans up and deals. They have a short period of time to get over their past hurts and trust each other in order to survive the mess Delaney has found herself in. Their connection is still there, and that leads them down the right road, mostly. I was interested in the interactions with the couples from the previous books and the foreshadowing of the next one which I will automatically put in the cart.

Again, this is a great series. It's very well-written, and Lexi Maynard is fast becoming one of my favorites to listen to.

FINALLY! Tyler's story!

What did you love best about Mine to Hold?

I knew we'd eventually get to Tyler's story. He so deserved a happily ever after. His devotion to Alyssa makes so much sense now!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Mine to Hold?

When Tyler sees his son for the first time and instantly knows...and loves...his child. So unexpected and awesome for him.

What about Lexi Maynard’s performance did you like?

I appreciate her ability to read the sex scenes and dirty talk without letting the narration part get breathy and high pitched like she's the one having sex. Some narrators just go overboard and make it hard to listen to at all. Lexi does a good job at keeping it real without sounding like porn, or being too clinical.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Tyler puts his son to sleep via Skype by singing to him. So sweet.

Excellent Continuation Series Fantastic Hot Scenes

What did you love best about Mine to Hold?

A previous relationship explains our pal Tyler a bit more.

What did you like best about this story?

It was tender. Like all of the men in this series-Tyler evolves and knows what he wants right away. Also, while the love scenes ARE hot, there is not the overload (barely any) BDSM that is prevalent in books today. This is a fantastic 'normal' relationship with plenty of sparks without whips.

Which scene was your favorite?

Most memorable is the scene at Ben's with Tyler's intensity/helplessness as Del is attacked.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, yes, yes!

Any additional comments?

I don't know if the author realizes it or not but it is very repetitive. Every 10-15 minutes one of the characters 'reminds' the reader why they are in this situation/the reason for the story...I feel like I'm being drummed on the head with the why. The initial explanation and maybe a reminder or two later in the book is more than sufficient. Fill the space with more action or romance.

I LOVE Shayla Black's Wicked Series and beg her to keep writing/recording them!

So Good.

I was looking forward to Tyler's story. You many of the couple from past books join in this book to help Tyler so you get a good little update on some of the couples. There was a lot more action in this book but it still had the steamy scenes you have come to love from Shayla Black. Totally worth the credit.

another great story with a crap female lead

why do authors do this to us?!?!?! nothing ruins a perfectly good book like a bad female lead. In this case the female is weak, ignorant, selfish, and kind of stupid! It amazes me that she took on a gang banger and dirty ada and didnt expect them to get violent?! It also amazed me how many times she could make excuses for her pathetic ex husband, I'm all about seeing the good in people, but I just cant enjoy a book where a woman deals with emotional and physical abuse, and makes excuses constantly. Lastly and the worst thing she did, hiding her pregnancy, she was so beyond selfish. she sent tyler away then blamed him for leaving, then keeps acting like she had to do the pregnancy on her own when in truth she just kept it to herself. She never gave Tyler the benefit of the doubt, and judged him based on ways he never acted with her, she treated him like a child constantly trying to tell him how felt and how he couldn't handle a relationship (just like his bad mom). Tyler was a playboy, but he never treated her with anything but devotion and respect. He was sweet and caring and never held her responsible for any of her own actions. The sex scenes were way too long and had way too much repetitive inner dialogue from del and her mistrust of Tyler, I skipped several sex chapters. The plot line was great, I love books like this, I just hate the way this author writes female characters, do some justice to our gender and show some strength!
I would not waste a credit or money, if you like this type and have the audible package and can ignore del then I would say it's worth the time. Narrator was good for a female doing all POV.

bored me...

it could have been so much better....the female protagonist wasn't developed at all; and Tyler's personality just shifted to accommodate the story line; completely different from what he was in other books in the series. People just don't change that fast...

has a been there done that fell to it.

Martyr Meets Self Absorbed Man Whore

In the first chapter, when Delaney agrees to perform a live sex show for her husband Eric with his best friend Tyler, I was incredulous. Just because Eric (cop) was wounded & temporarily in a wheelchair, supposedly Delaney & Tyler were willing to do anything to help pull him out of his depression. As if watching another man have sex with your wife would make a man feel better - just too stupid for words.

Afterwards Delaney asked Tyler to leave because Eric was suddenly jealous and she wanted to sooth his wounded ego. Despite knowing that the condom broke, Tyler left the state and never contacted her again. Since Tyler, a former police detective, had become a private investigator, how hard would it been to find out that Delaney was pregnant with his baby?

Just as incredibly, Delaney played the martyr when Eric divorced her and didn't attempt to find Tyler. What kind of reporter couldn't track down a man who wasn't trying to stay hidden. However, 15 months later when someone was trying to kill Delaney, she magically discovered where he was living and showed up at his front door with baby Seth in tow.

My low opinion of Tyler got lower when it was revealed that most of Tyler's friends were into BDSM and regularly abusing their spineless wives. When Delaney agreed to leave her baby with these violent strangers, I lost all respect for her. And I wasn't surprised when Tyler started hitting Delaney, who accepted the abuse like the martyr she was.

Because I don't enjoy silly plots where the woman acts like a whiny martyr, the man suddenly changes from a man whore to a loving father who wants a committed relationship and the bad guys are all-powerful (no corrupt ADA in LA has unlimited, nationwide resources), I was bored & annoyed but never entertained by Mine to Hold.

I believe Shayla Black is an excellent writer, gifted in writing witty dialogue and humorous moments. Now, if she would only start writing strong, self confident women characters who use their brains & don't take crap from anyone and mature male characters who respect women, her books could be amazing.
