Publisher's summary

Strange things are happening in King's Harbour. Midwife Maggie Wilson vows to find the person who almost murdered her sister. When her sister’s behavior ignites old superstitions, the townspeople threaten to send her to an asylum. Maggie turns to handsome Ian for help in a town where everybody is against her. Apothecary Ian Pierce wants nothing more than to feel whole, as he does when he is near the beautiful midwife, singing to her soul with his music. Only then can he forget the horrors from his past when false accusations sent him to Bedlam. When they unearth the deeds of a sinister killer, Ian’s most daunting battle will be to safeguard his sanity . . . and win Maggie’s heart.

Great story

There are some graphic scenes. Both in violence and sexual nature. If that’s not something you like - don’t get this book!! I thought it was well written, love that the herbs and illness spoken of seemed authentic both in reality and the time period. A few times I wanted to smack the characters - but thats what makes it good sometimes.

Interesting historical mystery and romance

Would you listen to Mercy of the Moon (Rhythm of the Moon) again? Why?

It's a well written, well researched piece of historical fiction.

The characters are relatable and well developed throughout the book. You understand their actions because you end up understanding them as people.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Mercy of the Moon (Rhythm of the Moon)?

I'll try not to spoil it by writing about the actual moments. But I enjoyed the characters interactions, the affectionate moments between the characters.

I also really enjoyed the hints of paranormal, which brings even more mystery to the story.

The main character, Maggie, is a wonderful person that knows and does what is right every time. Spending years without romantic love, we are able to see her first and most powerful love story happen and how she reacts to it.

Ian's also a fantastic character, his flaws and history of mental illness is different and something not often seen.

What does Rebecca McKernan bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Rebecca does a great job reading the book - she uses different voices and accents for different characters, so they are easier to picture.

Any additional comments?

It really is a different type of a romance novel, as the reader is invested in the love story as much as in the murder/killer mystery happening to and around them. Very well written, the language feels authentic to the time period. Recommend!

not what i expected

Maggie, the lead character reminds me of some of my favorite strong female heros. She takes care of others but is independent and strong. She falls for a loving man with a secret that he fears will drive her away. I love the character of Ian, flawed, but full of love and music. There is romance, sex, humor and horror. An amazing recipe for a delightful read

An absolutely perfect listen

This listen was perfection. I loved the story from start to finish. It's set in the 1800's when women were still struggling to have their own voices and religion and religiousness ruled. Into this our hero and heroine must survive. The heroine, Maggie, struggles to do and be what others expect of her. Our hero, Ian, struggles with sanity. If you think that's not the makings of a great love story, you're wrong.

The ins and outs and day to days of being become mixed with a really bad, bad guy. Oh, and a bit of the paranormal. I know how this sounds but trust me, this is a really good listen.

The narrator was exceptional. With the hero. With the heroine. With the paranormal and the icky. Exceptional.

This was great historical fiction and should not be missed.
