Publisher's summary

Is Marshall Kincaid getting married? Maybe someone should have told him.

Lizzie Neuman came to America filled with hopes and dreams for her and her husband. His unexpected death left her stranded in a new country. Not having anywhere to turn, she reluctantly responds to an ad for a mail order bride.

Marshall never planned to marry. In his line of work, he had to worry about people he arrested in the past coming after him. He accepted the path he'd chosen when he agreed to become the sheriff. He never intended to put a wife or children in harm's way. So when Lizzie shows up in town, claiming to be his fiancée, and holding some letters supposedly from him, it doesn't take a genius to figure out something isn't right.

Who knew enough about Marshall to write such personal letters? Could this be an elaborate scheme to get revenge? Or is Lizzie the realization of a dream he never dared have?

Love this series

--I was given a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review

Marshall is my favorite brother in this series. He is the oldest, strong and always looking out for everyone. He meets Lizzie who has come to town claiming to be his fiance after corresponding to him through the mail order bride process...how did this happen if Marshall never wrote her? The story is fun and full of hope. Marshall is passionate and loving..a wonderful man and Lizzie is perfect for him

Lawrence Yaklin provides us with a beautiful performance.

Book 4 in the Mail Order Bride Series Marshall

👤

This is the fourth book in the Mail Order Bride series-Marshall's Story. If you plan to read any of the other books, you may not want to read this review as it may contain spoilers.

If you have read any of my other reviews about this series, this may sound repetitive (GOOD.) However, as I promised when I was gifted a copy of this story in exchange for my review, I will say it again. *SMILE*

Susette Williams intent in writing the novellas is to provide a realistic book for listeners with the busy schedules today. At just over one hour long the story accomplish that goal.

I don't want to add any more to the publishers summary – as I will feel anything more that I say will spoil this great story. However, I will say that I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone who wants to listen to an innocent, "clean" historical romance.

The narration is very good. Lawrence D. Yaklin's performance gives each character their own unique voice making it very easy to follow along.

I am looking forward to the final book in the series and will continue to hope that Susette Williams will add to the series or – my preference – write a full length, historical, romance story

There is nothing to alert the listener about as far as language, violence or other graphic imagery. It is perfectly fine, in my opinion, to have this playing with any company – children or otherwise – able to hear any or all of the novella .

Simple storytelling

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The narrator has a nice voice, but he read the story too fast and not a lot of variety

What aspect of Lawrence D. Yaklin’s performance would you have changed?

Mr. Yaklin's narration would greatly benefit by adding longer pauses between scenes and by making more of a differentiation between his characters (male/female, multiple males, multiple females).

What would have made this romance irresistible?

A different narrator would have made this simple romance into a sweet recommended romance. Ms. Williams tells a nice story, but the narrators for the first 4-5 books were unable to add to the overall experience. It was just simple storytelling (reading from the pages).

Any additional comments?

Marshall's Bride Was Another Good One In Series

MARSHALL'S BRIDE was a nice relaxing listen. I love the MAIL ORDER BRIDE SERIES. These are short clean romances which is one thing I especially enjoy. These would make a great mini series.

In this instance, Lizzie and her hubby were coming to America and he fell ill and left her a widow. Lizzie began corresponding with who she thought was Marshall but it was really his mother. She wanted Marshall to have a good woman. Then her former brother in law Samuel came looking for her and the mine claim that he and his brother had. This stirred up some issues. And an even more unexpected arrival comes. I love that SUSETTE WILLIAMS writes these.

LAWRENCE D. YAKLIN did a fine job narrating. He had a good, old west gravelly voice that fit perfectly with the story. I liked how he read the story.

Love this series

What I liked the most is the mother and her way she is worried that when she is gone there will be any one to care for her boys. Saying that, she is a wonderful woman who gets her way most of the time
There isn't much I can say about the story it self but, to read it for your self
If you like short stories and have a few minutes read one. I totally recommend it
