Publisher's summary

Number one New York Times best-selling author Johanna Lindsey takes you on a captivating adventure in 1880s Montana, where passions and gold fever run high as an American heiress turns to a rugged mountain man to help her locate her father's fortune.

Summoned back to Philadelphia from the social whirl in London, Violet Mitchell never expected to find her brothers living on the edge of financial ruin while their father seeks new wealth in Montana's gold fields. With the family's home and social standing at risk, Violet makes a drastic decision.

Morgan Callahan rode away from his family's cattle ranch to make his own fortune. Now, as he finishes exploiting a mother lode of silver, a young woman claiming to be his late partner's daughter turns up wanting to be taken to her father's mine. Suspecting that the pretty schemer works for the mining outfit that is trying to steal his land, he has no qualms about snatching her and holding her at his camp, where she can do no harm.

Morgan underestimated the new thorn in his side. Determined to claim what rightfully belongs to her family, Violet summons up the courage, grit, and spunk to cope with the hazards and discomforts of an untamed land and the disturbingly masculine stranger who holds her fate in his hands. But an error of judgment brings down a hailstorm of calamity and danger that upends her plans and deepens her bond to a man who is not the brilliant match a lady wishes to make but could be all that a strong, passionate woman desires.

Read it by sundown too

I actually didn’t realize that this was a continuation of the Callahan-Warren series of which I read the first two books a few years back. By my count, two more Callahan brothers have yet to get ‘hitched’ so I’m holding the author to remedying that ... soon!!!

Good storyline with a buffet of my favorite genre tidbits ... mining; a saddle weary, pampered heroine; difficult and brooding hero turned thoughtful, kind and chock full of love; a big and boisterous family of brothers lead by a strong but warm matriarch ... the plot wasn’t overly unique but neither was it predictable and “formularic”.

There was some steam but by no means was it gratuitous. I am not a fan of the overly sanitized romances but I don’t particularly enjoy bedroom scenes for the sake of filling in the pages either.

Pilar Witherspoon gives her usual stellar performance ... I had no idea she could master British accents and Irish brogues too! She is quickly becoming a must listen narrator for me.

Credit worthy? Surely - give one up for this tale.

My First Audio Experience

I wasn't sure how I was going to like having a book read for me. I like to imagine the character's in my own way and in my own minds inflections. The first few chapters I was still not really enjoying the whole thing .. But once I just let go and focused on the story, I actually came to enjoy it. I was free to do other things whilst listening to the story. I laughed, I groaned in frustration, I enjoyed the interactions between the two main character's .. and could feel the emotions So, I've changed my opinion .. I enjoyed hearing the story being read to me :)

Sorru Pilar Witherspoon

I've read every book Johanna Lindsey has ever written. She has to be one of my all time favorite Author's! This particular series is not one of my favorites. Seems it took forever in all of this particular series, to get to the point of being interesting for me. Because it was a Johanna Lindsey story I knew it would get good at some point. But it took me days to finish it. Do think if I had been reading it myself I would have enjoyed it much more. As I have never been able to put her books down until I was finished with them. At one point I speeded up the reading time to 2x. Which made it much better listening. Do apologize to Pilar Witherspoon as do not wish to be over critical. However you really need to speed up you reading time as you drug this one out so long it made it boring and hard to get through.

Book #3 of Callahan-Warren Series (Good Book!)

This book is interesting & at times was frustrating. (He didn't believe who she was & would interrupt her before she could give details & send when she was given the opportunity to speak she never went into details about how to prove who she is! Ugh!)

Sassy heroine and gruff mountain man hero!

I absolutely loved Marry Me by Sundown.
Violet is an American heiress who has been living in England with relatives. She is summoned back to the US by her brothers when her father is missing.

Most of the story takes place in 1880’s Montana during the height of the gold rush. There are outlaws, gunmen, kidnappings, a duel, miners, bandits and a case of mistaken identity!

Morgan is a bear of a man who has left his family’s ranch to find his fortune in a silver mine. He is a rough outspoken mountain man, but Violet is able to find the heart of gold hiding under his gruff exterior.

My very favorite part was the “Marry me by sundown” surprise twist near the end of the story!! Awesome narration!

Great follow up

I truly enjoy this book. The narrator did a great job, although I would have enjoyed Tad Branson even more.

Bossy Brit

Violet has become a historical adventurous.Going back home to Philadelphia from London,to Montana only to be alone to deal with hardship and obstacles. She finds an unlikely foe in minor Morgan Callahan.Going from pampered and luxury to ruffing it in the Montana wilds, she is hilariously adept at rolling with what comes and maintaining her civilized ways. But the”bear”Morgan shows her that being down ad dirty in the wilds isn’t too bad, especially if it’s with a very sexy mountain man.The story was very entertaining and the narration was great.
