Although this was a good book I had a difficult time relating to the heroine (Jaime) in this story. I think she seemed a bit too "loose" for that time period. She did have some good qualities but they were over shadowed by her carousing personality. I did however like the hero, Luke. He was a big man with a heart of gold. The phrase "opposites attract" fits perfectly here.
Still, I'm really enjoying this series. These stories are basically clean.....meaning there are sex scenes but there is nothing explicit.
I truly enjoy the narration of J Scott Bennett. His cowboy style voice is perfect for this series.

This is the second book I've listened to by this author and narrator.
I am a fan of books with sustenance. I like a storyline to be written with thought and care to details. This book was just way too short and sped through to have the sustenance that, to me, makes a good book. There was barely a pause in a piece of the story before it speedily moved on. If you like a book thats "short and sweet" with no sustenance then you make like it, however, in my opinion, even without the sustenance of a good book, as a short story this was lacking.
The story had the "short" down, but even for a short story it was just so fast. Jamie is different than the other women in her town, who don't like her, and sees an ad Luke had placed for a mail order bride and bam she's on her way. As for the "sweet"... It wasn't there. More like "annoying." Jamie has a crappy personality that in a book where you have more detail and time to understand the character, it might be a personality you like. I couldn't take the ridiculousness and cut the book off at just under 2 hours into the story.
As far as the narrator J. Scott Bennett. In the previous book I enjoyed his narration, however this one was the polar opposite. Might have been because the story was so bad but idk. There were soooo many "aaaahhh" at the beginning of words. "Thats aaahhhh a lot to handle." Then add the long pauses. "She kissed his cheek and _____ sat down" SO many pauses. Now add the pauses with the aaahhh and you have "I'd like to _____ aaahhhh go with you" "I'd be _____ aaaahhhh a happy for you both". It just got so aggravating. And like I said, I really enjoyed his narration in the last book so I really think my issues might just be with the story. I would take a venture to listen to him again.
All in all this was a bust for me. I do NOT like leaving unpleasant reviews and rarely do so but I believe in being honest about how I feel. I was given this book specifically to review. Because I enjoyed the first book I read, I will possibly try the next one and hope that this was an a one time faux pas.

I love how each of the books in this series so far are standalone but also closely tie with the previous books. We get to revisit with older characters and learn about how their lives have progressed.
I love Jamie and Luke's story. The two characters come with complex histories and strong personalities. It could have not worked out with the challenges they face, but I am glad they did.
