Cute Story with good narration

This was a quick, enjoyable listen. A middle age man, fairly average from what I can tell, decides to do an investigation in to some phenomenon that had been happening in the NY region. He and Lucy fall for each other quickly. I really liked Ditto the horse. One thing I could have done without, though were all of Lucky's 'yeah right' moments. The narrator did a good job. I would be glad to listen to something narrated by them in the future.

Wrong Category - Should Be Paranormal/SciFi

I was given a copy of this book in exchange for my review.

*After agreeing to listen to this book, I saw that it contained paranormal stuff. I contacted the author/narrator and explained that I do not care for this type of drama (paranormal, sci-fi, etc.) Offering to give the gift back. I was told not to worry, there was a lot of romance with a lot of boudoir scenes. So I went ahead and listen based on those claims.

For the record, this is a science fiction, PNR style book. It's focus is on the life and apparitions that they had seen. And the constant worry of being discovered.

Anything else that I say will spoil for the rest of you.

I found that the end was interesting but unsatisfying because it is a big-time cliffhanger, so I don't really know.

The narration was great, it was smooth and all the characters were done in a way that I can understand and make unique in my own mind

Notes: For the 18+ reader for sex. This IS science fiction. The language had a couple of F-bombs but they were few and far apart.

Stars: I am going to be a bit harsh but please remember I was looking for a romance . I was assured that it was a bit of sci-fi with a raging romance. The raging romance was not a problem for me, the PNR WAS.

Lucky Dawg indeed!!

This story was so enlightening , wasn't sure how it would turn out but it was quite cute.
I really enjoyed the narrator voice and style.

AudioBook Review: Stars: Overall 4 Narration 4 Story 4

A short introduction to the characters, world and author’s writing all come through in this first installment in Edward Fox’s story, Lucky Dawg Meets Lucky Lucy.

Fox delivers on characters: Lucky (so named by his parents) is a detective of sorts- investigating aliens and other UFO type activities despite not really believing in the phenomena. He’s got a very “noir” approach to dialog and use of language, fond of “gal” and sounding very 40’s in all the best non-pc ways. Lucy has retreated to life in a small cabin in the woods with her dog, preferring solitude and her own space to a life filled with people, but close enough to get necessities. With care, Fox brings us enough background on these two characters (despite the abbreviated length) to give us some solid belief in their reasoning and needing to know what would happen with these two.

When things go bump in the night, and Lucy starts to see things that she can’t quite rationalize or explain and things start to twist. A blog post brings her to Lucky’s attention, and he takes a circuitous route to her in New York. Together, Lucky and Lucy are electric. While there was an instant connection between the two, Fox doesn’t use the connection or the steam that illustrates it dance over the edge of crude. Yes, there is sex, steamy moments even, but displayed with a sensuality (and lovely dialogue) that truly keep readers engaged and believing in their connection and relationship. Cleverly done in about 130 pages, Fox has managed to make their story feel much longer and deeper, we haven’t noticed the short length until it is over – and we want more: more of this crazy mismatched couple, more about the aliens, more from The Alien, and even to see what scuffle and mystery Lucky will drag us into next.

Narration for this story is provided by Scott Pollack, my first introduction to his narration. A bold choice, and if I had to describe him, his voice is similar to Scott Simon of NPR fame. Use of his voice as “Lucky” feels solid and appropriate, with adjustments in tone and delivery to fit the moment. When voicing Lucy, he doesn’t change his tone much, but does use nuanced delivery and presentation to bring her to light. It was a delight to listen to, and he managed to present the story, not overreaching for emotions, action or adding to context that readers would interpret for themselves.

Completely unlike anything I normally read.

What a nice surprise!! I throughly enjoyed this story. It was amusing and interesting from the first page. I've fallen in love with male romance authors and can not wait to read the next installment in the Lucy and Lucky adventure.

More romance than SF.

Lucky is into the second half of his life. He’s single and his kids are grown. He’s also got a little bit of money – enough to free up his time as long as he doesn’t get extravagant. So he decides he wants to investigate the paranormal, extraterrestrial, and the weird. He’s a free-lance writer and decides to dig into alien sightings up in a secluded wooded area. Lucy is the one that reported seeing something odd and now wishes she hadn’t brought it up. She just wants the quiet life with her horses as she completes her cabin and a coral. This book is part mystery, two parts romance, and a snippet of scifi since aliens are involved.

I really liked the mystery part of the book and that tied in nicely with the scifi aliens – what are they doing here? What do they want? Are they friendly or hostile? Lucy has tried to take some pictures and has seen one of these unknowns from a distance. At first, she really wasn’t sure what she was dealing with – an elaborate hoax? a movie being filmed? Lucky was definitely intrigued by the small article he saw. I really enjoyed this introduction to the mystery – plenty there to capture my mind and imagination!

The romance started off slow and then moved to sweet. It was two experienced adults getting to know one another and it was a fun addition to the story. As their romance deepens, the descriptions of their romantic moments becomes explicit (which is fine by me) but also text-book like. Several of these sex scenes read more like How-To-Manuals instead of love scenes. Additionally, both characters tend to scream out ‘Shit!’ a lot while climaxing and this particular phrase (which is anything but romantic), plus the instructive feel to the scenes, made them not so sexy.

The mystery with the aliens wraps and, while satisfying to some degree, I felt it was a bit anticlimactic. The story didn’t really have a nemesis or bad guy or some entity or great difficulty to rail against and overcome. It was a sweet romance with instructive scenes on how to pleasure men and women that also happened to have a few aliens off in the woods doing their own thing tossed in on the side.

Narration: Scott Pollak did a good job, never shying from the romance scenes. I liked his attempts to make the aliens, who use a translating device in the story, sound from out of this world.

Great book with many twists and turns.

Lucky Dawg Meets Lucky Lucy was an interesting book and encouraged me to listen to it to the end. Lucky was an intriguing character and I really liked how he met Lucy. The whole story came together at the end and I cannot wait until the second book.

The unique way the narrator used his voice for the different characters.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Lucky and Lucy went to the lake and what they discovered certainly surprised me. I was moved when certain 'things' took place. Listen and you'll like it!
