The Hathaway family is an unconventional family for the time, 1850s England, filled with love and amusement toward and with each other. This book is the fifth/last in the family series, featuring the youngest sister Beatrix. Beatrix loves animals and rescuing animals, so she has added a menagerie of pets to the Ramsey House which ramble about in the story adding many laughs. Beatrix falls in love with Captain Phelan, through a deceptive correspondance while he is in the Crimean War. Great history on this war and the affects of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. LK writes dialogue between characters with much humor. She also makes the possessive love relationships endearing for all characters. Like all the Hathaways the love relationship is electric. Yet, it is more than a love story, Love in the Afternoon, also takes the reader inside the grief cycle, family dynamics, abandonment issues, and commitment. There are many bumps in the road you appreciate but everything gets stitched together nicely by the last chapter. It is a sweet and fun read. The narrator does a great job too!

I absolutely loved this latest and last installment of the Hathaway series! So sorry it had to end but loved how it ended. I loved the dynamic between Christopher and Beatrix especially how their love grew over time. I know her focus is now on contemporary romances but I hope Ms. Kleypas will write more historical romance novels in the future! Unlike other authors she doesn't write heroes that are awful to their heroines by raping, etc...they have their discords but they are loving and passionate about their heroines...this is how true romance should be. Keep up the great work Ms. Kleypas!

I liked the characters in this book and Rosalyn Landor is always a good narrator.
The story kept me interested and as a dog lover I enjoyed Albert's role. I would be interested in more books by the author especially with any of the other characters mentioned in this book.
My only complaint is that this book like quite a few other audible books I've listened to has music at the beginning and end - which in my opinion is completely unnecessary and a bit distracting especially when the narrator is reading. I don't understand why it's thought to be needed to play music over the first few lines and the last few lines of the story. Most especially the last few lines as it suddenly came on and distracted from what the characters were saying.
This is a very romantic book. I like how the 2 main charaters bounce off one another and how Beatrix is strong for Christopher.. 10 out of 10
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes I would if this genre is your thing. I've listened to Book 4 and 5 of this series now and loved them both. I can't wait till the others are available.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Beatrix has to be the favourite of course, such a laugh. Having said that there are many other wonderful characters of which I can't wait to learn more about in the other Hathaway books.
What does Rosalyn Landor bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
Rosalyn Landor is a magician! She brings anything she reads to life...almost makes these books into movies.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Any additional comments?
Just brilliant...I'm off to find something else written by Lisa and read by Roslyn.
