Publisher's summary

I’ve spent years hoping someone would finally hear me. It’s easier not to try anymore....

10 years after leaving his small Minnesota hometown in his rear view mirror for what Nolan Grainger was sure would be the last time, life has decided to throw the talented musician a curveball and send him back to the town he lived in but was never really home.

At 28, Nolan has traveled the world as a successful concert violinist with some of the best symphonies in the country. But success breeds envy, and when Nolan’s benefactor and lover decides Nolan has flown high enough, he cruelly clips Nolan’s wings. The betrayal and ensuing scandal leaves the violinist’s career in shambles and with barely enough money to start fresh somewhere beyond his vindictive ex’s powerful reach. But just as he’s ready to get his life back on track, Nolan gets the call he’s been dreading.

After a stroke leaves his father a partial invalid, duty-bound Nolan returns to Pelican Bay and a life he’s spent years trying to forget. When he’s forced to use the last of his own money to keep from losing the family home, desperation has him turning to the one man he’d hoped never to see again....

Even if I could speak, there wouldn’t be anyone there to listen....

Very good story, I really liked the relationship between this couple. They both have issues and when they are together those issues don't matter. I loved their love for each other, it was sweet and sexy too. The character growth was perfect and the build up for book 2 was also great.

The narration was good.

OMG! So good!

I’ve never met a Sloane Kennedy book I didn’t like. Dallas and Nolan are perfect together. Though both characters have been through life circumstances that would break anyone else, they persevered to give themselves lives they could be proud of.
And now I can't wait for Mad and Isaac’s story.
Michael Pauley as always gave a stellar performance!

Locked in Silence

This Book... I really think I felt every single emotion while listening to this book. It was an emotional rollercoaster of Happiness, Sadness, Hope, Heartache, Pain, Anger, Outrage, and Love. ALL the Emotions. This book has everything in it, and I was not expecting to feel so much in such a short time. This is also another good example of a book where the Narrator Gives it so much more than when you are just/only reading the book. Michael Pauley does a great job bringing these characters, and their story to life and I really don't think another narrator could have done them justice the way he did.
Both Characters go through so much in their lives. Nolan is a Violinist who goes from being bullied as a teen, to being accused of horrible things as a young adult. Forced to come back home to Pelican Bay to help his parents. He encounters Dallas, Who he knew as a teenager. Dallas had a horrible accident as a late teen, and has been running an animal rescue center alone in seclusion ever since. After the two men meet again, it takes a lot of work, a little drama, and a ton of strength from both men to get them to the point where they trust each other and themselves, as well as others. With the help of some of the characters in the book they get to have the story & love they fully deserve. I cant wait to hear what happens in the next Pelican Bay story.

Nice Hurt/Comfort

I really liked the emotional nuance of the story, which was portrayed really well by narrator Michael Pauley.

Dual POV, hurt/comfort romance with medium angst, two main characters with pasts, and a very happy ending. Pauley provides distinctive character voices and brings all the emotion out so well.

I've already bought book two, Maddox's story: "Sanctuary Found", and I'm looking forward to reading/listening to it soon!

Awesome

You can easily switch to male and female characters and the story is still moving. Intimate moments aside, the background stories are so today. I’m all for people overcoming their pasts and finding vindication and love in the end. Thank you for this.

so sweet

such a sweet story. Totally love reading it and listening just made it even better. I have to admit it's taken me awhile to warm up to this narrator. I've listened to a few of his works before and in the beginning I wasn't a fan. However he's improved dramatically and each of the books I've heard have been more and more enjoyable. The emotions and feelings he conveys for each character really makes them come alive.
This was truly a very enjoyable listen and has been permanently added to my library.
