SWEET Romance!

If you could sum up Little Love Affair: Civil War Romance in three words, what would they be?

Sweet, intriguing, easy to like.

Which character – as performed by Ian Gordon – was your favorite?

I don't know. I liked his narration, but did they all have British accents during the civil war period? I would say NO, but I wasn't there, so *shrugs* what do I know. Once I got over the idea, I did really enjoy Mr. Gordon's performance.

Any additional comments?

This sweet story is very easy to listen to, and it's intriguing enough to keep you interested. The story wraps up nice and tidy. It wasn't very long, but it doesn't leave you having to purchase the next installment. :) It left me wanting more though, wishing... I could have happily listened to a few more hours with these characters! I received this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Cute Little Book

A nice little short book that leaves you smiling. This is the 1st book in the Southern Romance series and I can't wait to continue the story of Jasper and Cara. Their love was sweet and innocent that keeps you smiling. Ian Gordon did a wonderful narrating, though I do question if North Americans still held a British accent during the Civil War.

If you love short romance stories, this is a nice gem to pass the time.

A Bit Predictable

Narration - Ian Gordon - He has a lovely narration voice with a British accent. Good storyteller, my only question is what accents did "American's" have during the civil war? Did Americans's still speak with their native accents? When did we lose all the British, Irish, Scottish, German etc... and develop the Southern Twang? Just a thought...I honestly am curious.
ANYWAY, back to the review...he's a pretty good narrator. Pretty believable females, nice, smooth narrative style.

The story was a clean romance, with our heroine being left behind to run the farm while her brother goes off to war. There's a wealthy neighbor who could solve all their money problems, but she's just not feeling him.

Along comes Jasper - a soldier who approaches the girls to beg for food, and even though Clara runs him off, she can't stop thinking about him. So, you pretty much know where this is going.

The story was a bit predictable, but the narration is enjoyable enough that it was a nice listen.

Little Love Affair

I am reading this for a romance challenge and although this is not my typical genre I came in with an open mind. The narration of this book was done quite well and helped keep me interested in the story. I had a real hard time connecting to these characters even though the story had promise. I’m not quite sure what I felt it was missing but just had too hard of a time. That being said I would be willing to try another by this author to see if maybe it was just this book.

Civil War Romance

Near Gettysburg in 1863, Clara is trying to help her family's farm survive when she encounters Jasper and Horace, Conferate soldiers injured at the battle of Monterey Pass.

Good narration. A family saga. Read in series order.

4 Little Love Affair Stars

Ahh doing this challenge and trying to listen to a book from each category has been difficult but finally, a book that has captured my attention in a category I am not usually a fan of.

Clara is a determined woman who wants to help her family but doesn’t want to settle for someone who she doesn’t love. But family obligation is pushing her in a direction she isn’t sure she wants to go in.

Jasper is a solider and is helping a wounded ally. Jasper comes across Clara and she helps in any way she can. Their connection is started and Clara is conflicted she knows she shouldn’t trust this man because he is working on the other side of the war. But she can’t let him or his friend die.

I really enjoyed this book, and I know there are more to this story that will be filled in with the next two books.

The narration was really good too, Ian brought these characters to life for me.

*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*

Civil War Era Romance, Short But Sweet

Civil War: Clara is left running the family farm as her brother, Solomon is fighting in the War. Clara is also caring for her mother and younger sister Cecilia.

Jasper is a Confederate soldier that has been injured, but not as badly as his friend Horace who is in dire shape. They want to get back to the Confederacy, Jasper anyway. However he feels an obligation to return his injured friend home to Pennsylvania.

As the soldiers are starving and their wounds are festering Jasper sees a farmhouse and throws himself on the mercy of Clara for any food or medical supplies that she can get them. She shuns him and tells him to keep moving, as he is in the land of the Union Army. However, her gentler side keeps 'at her,' so she wraps up some bread and other supplies in a shawl and take them to the little cabin in which they are staying.

Running the farm is hard work and Clara will need to hire a worker to help with the load, if there are any able-bodied men around. She realizes that Jasper is perfectly fit (thanks to the med. supplies) and so she offers him rations for his labors.

Clara has an unwanted suitor, news comes from the area of fighting regarding Clara's brother and a huge twist turns everything many of them knew upside down!

I'm not up to my Civil War history, so I look at this purely as entertainment.

The narration by Ian Gordon is wonderful. I hope this series continues and that he is chosen to narrator for the entire thing.

While *I accepted this book in exchange for my thoughts, opinions and this review, I am thrilled to give it a solid 4*'s. My only wish is that it was a longer book.

Note: This is a very sweet and purely written book. It comes with no warnings.

Cival War Historical Romance

This was a short sweet civil war Romance with surprises although I figured out the major surprise before it was revealed.

A young Pennsylvanian gives aid to a wounded confederate solider and his companion and subsequently falls in love with the rebel

I am looking forward to the rest of the series.
