Publisher's summary

Adventurers, families, outlaws were all driven west in the 1860s by a longing for endless blue sky along with wild and wide-open spaces. Tracie Peterson, from her own Montana home, paints an unforgettable portrait of this rich, rugged landscape, populated by strong and spirited characters. When Dianne Chadwick urges her family to move west to her uncle's ranch in the Montana Territory, she has no idea that her new life in the rugged frontier - and even within her uncle's home - will not be the idyllic adventure she expects. But first she has to survive the arduous wagon journey with the help of guide Cole Selby, whose heart seems to be as hard as the mountains he loves.

awesome book, poor narration

This is one of the best books I have listened to in months. However, the narration is not good. Her voice is not really pleasant, but I could live with that except: the last few chapters are difficult to listen to. She has times that it sounds like her lips must be dry and she stops to lick them and there are silent spots where all you hear is narrator's breathing.

Painful narration

Loved this book. But the narrator was distracting. I did purchase the second book because I was interested in what happens to the characters. I'm willing to put up with the narration just to hear the story. But she is bad. I know others have the same problem with her. Did the author approve this narrator?

Captivating

I almost closed this book after the first few hours because my heart couldn’t take any more tragedy- but then I was reminded by stories of my own pioneer ancestors that such tragedies were very real and I could honour their sacrifices more completely by better understanding them- this story is compelling and gripping- my emotions were completely engaged. I can’t wait to hear what happens next and how Travis is going to get out of his most
current ill advised jam-

Love the book and the narration!!

I bought the audio version of this book and I must say, it was one of my best picks of choosing from a first time author that I have never read anything from...this book is amazing! I have listened to this narrator before and just love her narration, I am not sure what the other reviews are so negative about...she does a wonderful job!!! Highly recommend!!!

Decent, good story

Well developed story. Performance was good, but all the swallowing, smacking and occasional stomach gurgling was distracting. If this had been filtered out or edited somehow, it would have made this a much better book. It was quite distracting.

Narrator

This Narrator is very hard to listen to. She sounds like she needs water. Listening to her swallow is hard. And she pauses at the worst times. Too much background noise. I love the Author and the stories, but I normally try to avoid books with this narrator. I really, really, hate to be negative, but it is just the truth.

Strong teen girl is her family's rock on the trail to Montana

I love that the young woman that this story centers on is both admirable and capable in the face of hardship or danger. Only 16 years old, and the youngest member of her family, she starts out feeling like she is only a burden to them. Marrying would be an option if only the Civil War wasn't ongoing.
War comes to them, making them sell their business, set off by wagon train, hoping her uncle warmly receives them in Montana.
Can she get both physically and mentally strong enough to become the rock the rest of them need? How deeply would it cost the family to get there? Can they earn enough to survive out west?
...read to find out!

Great Blessing, this book

If you could sum up Land of My Heart in three words, what would they be?

Discovery, acceptance, practice

What did you like best about this story?

From the first to last words in this book, Christ Jesus and His redemption is displayed in novel which sets out perfectly a real life scenario. I want to listen to books that are Bible studies in themselves always for sure sticking to good theology, which this one does.

Which scene was your favorite?

At the end of the book, last chapter....Diane hitting home what Cole's heartache really was all about.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Diane's uncle sharing his former life story.

Any additional comments?

This book and I'm sure the series (I am going to start book 2) are a must listen.

A great novel of a wagon train journey to Montana.

I could stop listening to this book. Not just a love story but the struggle of a family and how they learn to trust God.
