Publisher's summary

A full-length, standalone romance from the New York Times best-selling author of Archer's Voice.

Dirt poor. Hillbilly. Backwoods hick. Mountain folk.

Tenleigh Falyn struggles each day to survive in a small, poverty-stricken coal-mining town where she lives with her sister and mentally ill mother. Her dream of winning the college scholarship given to one student by the local coal company and escaping the harshness of her life keeps her going.

Kyland Barrett lives in the hills, too, and has worked tirelessly - through near starvation, through deep loneliness, against all odds - to win the Tyton Coal Scholarship and leave the town that is full of so much pain.

They're both determined not to form any attachments, but one moment changes everything. What happens when only one person gets to win? When only one person gets to leave? And what happens to the one left behind?

Kyland is a story of desperation and hope, loss and sacrifice, pain and forgiveness, but ultimately a story of deep and unending love.

New Adult Contemporary Romance: Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for listeners under the age of 18.

Mia Sheridan writes from the most beautiful place

This Author is among my all time favorites. She writes her characters with such power and strength but makes you believe in devoted love again. This story is amazing. Any age will love it. I am a 51 year old woman and was listening to this book while working in my yard and it is so emotionally stirring that I had tears running down my face. She's pure genius. Just get it now. You won't be sorry.

AN INSPIRATIONAL & BEAUTIFUL ADDITION TO A WONDERFUL SERIES

Set in a run down poor mining community, where food was scarce, where doing without was a daily struggle, life was incredibly tough, happiness was found in the little things that life had to offer, in friendships made and few dreamt of escaping their poverty for a better life. But young 17 yr old neighbors Tenleigh and Kyland did because if they studied at School and came Top in the tests then there was a Scholorship waiting to their chosen College for one of them.

Kyland tried so hard to resist the intense feelings he had for Tenleigh because he hoped to win the Scholarship... but either way he was leaving the dead-end Town. However, Tenleigh pushed and wanted more... she would happily take whatever she could get from handsome, sexy and considerate Kyland for however long it would last between them and she had no illusions of a HEA for them. Then their friendship and attraction sweetly turned into much more as Tenleigh gave Kyland the only thing she had of value... her virginity and Kyland was forever changed and in return he gave Tenleigh the only thing he had too. So what was meant to be just a casual fling soon turned into love... but the ultimate cost would be very high for both of them - for very different reasons - and heartbreak, anger, disillusionment, pain, sacrifice and suffering went on for 4 long years..... until Tenleigh returns.

I can't believe that I've had this unplayed little gem on my iPhone for so long just ready and waiting for me to first savor the conflicted build-up to the tentative new beginning between Tenleigh and Kyland. Then I devoured each chapter as I got lost in them acknowledging and basking in the beautiful sweet shared emotions of new love. But I was not at all ready for the gut-wrenching twist Mia Sheridan so viciously threw into the plot that would devastate Tenleigh (as well as me). I didn't know how a HEA could ever be reached - but I needn't have worried... because in this gifted Author's hands Kyland proved to be my no. 1 Hero.... selfless, loving, kind and true to his only love... me... oh alright - it was Tenleigh there happy now. Dual POV's and the narration was faultless.

Worth a credit? It was YA but it didn't really feel it, these two were great characters who emotionally grew and they were rewarded because of it, there was some interesting secondary characters, a villain, angst, drama, sex and shocking twists. An awesome addition to the Sign Of Love series, very enjoyable and a very creditworthy listen.

💕 Mesmerizing 💕

This love story was so beautiful it literally gave me chills!
Kyland is about true unconditional love and all the heartbreaking sacrifices that go with it.
And yes a box of Kleenex is definitely needed for this one!

Mia Sheridan writes the most enchanting love stories.
My library is full of her books.
I love the way she takes the reader through every emotion possible.
From empathy for the hardships, joy for the triumphs, butterflies in the stomach for the sexy love scenes, a sinking heart for the longing of something out of reach, to an abundance of warmth in our hearts for the HEA endings..

The characters are so well developed it's very easy to make a connection and get sucked right into their lives.
And the very talented narrator's did an excellent job of conveying the emotional depth of these characters as well.
Not only is this book worth a credit but it's one that you will revisit your library for more than once!

Mind blown!

Once again Mia Sheridan has blown my mind with an intense story. This book is so deep, meaningful, real...wow. Cried several times and couldn't stop thinking about their world and their journey. So glad they got a HEA.
Plus each one of her stories is unique and has perfect narrators who capture the drama. Best of all, I always learn more about humanity and feel like a more understanding person. Again, wow!

5 beautifully heartbreaking stars

Absolutely loved this book! It was a beautiful love story that had it's highs and it's lows. Both characters wanted nothing more than to escape the poverty that they had grown up in. Unfortunately only one can leave. Sacrifices are made and hearts get broken but all in the name of love. I have never met two characters that were so selfless before. Kyland is now one of my many book boyfriends. ♡

Narration was great! This is the Erin Mallon I love. Her voice is not as harsh as her newer narrations.

Love this Appalachian love story!

Any additional comments?

This was a really good, old fashioned love story. I truly felt the couples struggles and honestly my heart melted a few times. If you don't like sappy love stories, you might not like this. Some authors are so good at creating a chemistry between their main characters that you actually feel something for them--Mia Sheridan does that.
But, the setting (the Appalachian mountains) made this so much more than a story about two star-crossed young lovers. I feel like I really know what its like to live in the poverty stricken little town and while sometimes both the hero and heroine were a little too selfless, their actions and reactions make sense. The title is kind of lacking, it sure doesn't tell you what this book is about, and I thought maybe is was going to be some YA fluff about a high school boy named Kyland who is misunderstood in his world. I really think the title could have been more grown up, to match the feel of the story. This really is not YA or New Young Adult either. It's just a really good story.

Mia Sheridan does NOT disappoint!

Any additional comments?

This audiobook was amazing. Mia Sheridan is such a gifted story teller, you actually imagine yourself walking up that mountain looking at the broken down shacks and trailers. I picked up Kyland knowing it was going to be an amazing listen as her Best Selling Novel Archer took me off the charts, and with Kyland she did not disappoint.

The story about two poor kids moving their way through a Kentucky small town, just barely surviving and finding love like no other. Mia portrayed Kyland as being strong and selfless, and Tenleigh being on top of the world. The story was deep and detailed.

The narration done by Stephen Dexter and Erin Mallon did not disappoint. I've listened to Erin Mallon many times, and her voice is an easy listen. First for Stephen. This is a stand alone, so it was easy to get through the story, and cheer on new love.

Such a sweet story

I would recommend this book any day. I loved this book not just for the love story; I loved the way the author showed human resilience.

Kyland and the heroine were dirt poor and had a bunch of family issues; they rose above their circumstance, learned to see the beauty in what they had and made a positive contribution to their society.

Kyland showed his love to the heroine through self-sacrifice. I loved the story.

LOVE the book!

Mia Sheridan is one of my absolute favorite authors and I've loved every single one of her books, especially Kyland. So I was excited to listen to the audiobook. I loved the female narrator, but the male voice for Kyland left a lot to be desired. He just didn't sound like Kyland to me, and he was almost feminine in his taking sometimes.
