Publisher's summary

From the hellhole of a Taliban prison to sweet freedom, five brave military heroes have made it home - and they're ready to take on the civilian missions no one else can. Individually they're intimidating. Together they're invincible. They're the men of ARES Security.

Rafe Vargas is in Newton, Iowa, only to clear out his late grandfather's small house. As the covert ops specialist for ARES Security, he's eager to get back to his new life in Texas. But when he crosses paths with Annie White, a haunted beauty with skeletons in her closet, he can't just walk away - not when she's clearly in danger.

There's a mysterious serial killer on the loose with a link to Annie's dark past. And the closer he gets, the deeper Rafe's instinct to protect kicks in. But even with his considerable skill, Annie's courage, and his ARES buddies behind him, the slaying won't stop. Now it's only a matter of time before Annie's next - unless they can unravel a history of deadly lies that won't be buried.

Really enjoyable

THis was a good start to the series. I liked that the guys were all just getting started and getting their ducks in a row. I liked that they weren't tossing money around like millionaires. I liked that this was a small town with a big crime. I liked the way Rafe drew Annie out of her shell. I liked how while she was shy she didn't let him walk all over her.

I wish the psychic connection was used better. I wish the romance didn't get turned on like a switch. ONe moment he thinks she's pretty and the next he's kissing her and telling her how much he wanted to be inside her. The romance left something to be desired.

I am looking forward to the next book.

Mostly action, not romance

If you enjoy a story of action and, "who done it," you will enjoy this book. If you prefer a romance with a side of action, this will be a disappointment. There is an instant romance, one good sex scene and an epilogue describing their future but, it definitely is not the focus.

The narration is as awesome as Jim always is and if you like a James Patterson type of novel, you'll not be disappointed.

Awesome

Wonderful start to a new series. I never got bored, lots of character development, romance, and action. Can't wait for the next book.

Good Book

This is a good book, not great. Easy to know where the story is going. If you can pick it up for free get it.

Really enjoyed it

It was a really good suspense romance but I only wish there was more actual romance. I mean it would have definitely been better with a longer epilogue and more detail to the HEA!

Do not think that I thought this book was bad....

I could not make it through this story because the plot gave me nightmares. I am not going to rate this book low because I do not know if I would have liked it or not.

Can’t even finish

The narrator is awkward and unnatural. Kinda reminds me of a voice in a 1950s instruction video. The writing is very sophomoric. I don’t want to listen anymore.

Mercy

This was a great story, lots of unexpected twists and turns. My only complaint is the narrator didn't do character voices, Annie sounded the same as all the guys on the Ares team. The sheriff is the only one who sounded at all different, imo. Still, I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. Teagan's story looks like it should be a wild ride!

Good Mystery

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

yes I the characters liked and even if the plot was pretty easy to follow it was a good mystery. The sex was believable and not one just for the sake of sex .I felt Rafe and Annie really cared about one another.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Rafe because he was a responsible guy ruled by his head and heart and not by his dick.

What about Jim Frangione’s performance did you like?

Have had several audios by Jim Frangione and he is very competent narrator.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It did keep you interested and on the edge of your seat

Any additional comments?

Would like this as a series all of the Ares men seem like great stuff for more stories.
