Publisher's summary

An outlaw motorcycle club sets up shop next door to Sea Haven in the dangerously sexy new series from number one New York Times best-selling author Christine Feehan.

A brutal education in a Russian training facility for assassins has taught this group of men one thing: It's a long road to redemption.

Judgment Road

As the enforcer of the Torpedo Ink motorcycle club, Reaper lives for riding and fighting. He's a stone-cold killer who turns his wrath on those who deserve it. Feelings are a weakness he can't afford - until a gorgeous bartender gets under his skin. Near Sea Haven, the small town of Caspar has given Anya Rafferty a new lease on life.

And she's desperate to hold on to her job at the biker bar, even if the scariest member of the club seems to have it out for her. But Reaper's imposing presence and smoldering looks just ratchet up the heat.

Anya's touch is everything Reaper doesn't want-and it brands him to the bone. But when her secrets catch up to her, Reaper will have to choose between Anya and his club - his heart and his soul.

Christine tackles some pretty heavy material

Listened for Fun (Audible)
Overall Rating: 4.00
Story Rating: 4.25
Character Rating: 3.75

Audio Rating: 3.50 (not part of the overall rating and not because of the narrator--he was a 4.00)

Quick Story/Character Thoughts: If you have read/listened to the Sea Haven/Sisters of the Hearts series then you know Christine tackles some pretty heavy material. This is really heavy material so I have to start with you should have some trigger warnings (mostly around sex and force). I also need to state that while I loved the story (even the hard to handle parts), it did make me have reservations about the main characters (which I will put in a spoiler section over at goodreads). This is going to be gritty series with hopefully quite a few books. With the shared background, I imagine each will come with some hard to handle storylines. In the end, while the treatment between Reaper and Anya would never ever work for me, I felt for these two characters it worked. There were some definite lines that depending on how you look at it might have been crossed aka my character rating but overall this story works for them. I also thought Christine was very good at staying true to the story even when it got rough (aka the story rating). Overall good listen but tough!

Audio Thoughts: First Jim was fantastic as these characters but the Audible version had huge long pauses between sections. Long enough that I was questioning whether my phone was pausing (it wasn't). You should just know that so that you don't question your sanity during the listen which is well worth the time.

Greatly Disappointed.

No offense, but this book was just a sex book. I wish the writer would have concentrated 80% more on the club than the 80% on the sex scenes. I thought this would be a Sons of Anarchy comparable I gave it a chance listened to the whole thing fast forwarded through a ton of sex scenes in the end greatly disappointed. I like that they were protectors of children and women, but having Reaper asking Ana to wear him was more than a little degrading. I am not a prude, just thought the books plot should be more on the club and not on Reapers penis.

Couldn't follow the story

Would you try another book from Christine Feehan and/or Jim Frangione?

Yes

What was most disappointing about Christine Feehan’s story?

I literally kept falling asleep and I didn't feel like there was enough emotional connection between the guy and his girl. The way he spoke of her in discriptions, he refers to her physical appearance in a way I found distasteful. Also the names of the other people in the "club" are really strange and distracted me from the story. Going into a story for the first time is like meeting a potential friend and I either want to get to know the it or just stop. I couldn't make friends with this one.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Nothing, Jim F. narrates extremely well

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Judgment Road?

Any with the "hero" talking/thinking about the main leads ass, tits and fu$!ing her.

Any additional comments?

Just like to note this is the first book I didn't like from Christine Feehan and I love her work. This book just isn't my cup of tea.

Too much sex not enough story

Would you try another book from Christine Feehan and/or Jim Frangione?

Usually I enjoy Christine’s stories and I always enjoy Jim’s narration

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

This story had waay too much sex in it and some of it wasn’t very sexy. Don’t get me wrong, I love sex in the books I listen too. In fact, I kind of insist on it. But it needs to enhance the story and not take place of the plot. Not all of the sex was hot. Some of it was kind of on the nasty side. Feehan had set herself up for a great story but she never capitalized on it. Actually, closer to the end, when the storyline kicked in some it was much more enjoyable. I wish she would have done that throughout. But for some reason she wanted to write a story that bordered on porn without plot.

Any additional comments?

I don’t think I’ll continue on with this series if the storyline is going to continue to be an after thought.

Missing: Reward if Plot found

I really enjoy the books where relationships are built and nurtured by Feehan. This book was mainly about the physical relationship and the emotional relationship was demeaning. A better story or some mystery may have helped, but that was also missing. I spent way too much time fast forwarding on this one.

Great

Love the narrator. Wish he had narrated all the Sisters of the Heart series. Please keep him for all books. Men are strong. They need a male reader. Or do as other authors, have a male and female reader for each book

A romance novel involving sexual abuse?

I was looking for a good romance novel and found the story of an abused bunch of kids from Russia turned into a biker gang that kills people. The more I read, the worse the story got....I couldn't even finish to find out if the female lead was ever able to overcome the man's issues with.....everything, all while he's treating "his woman" like a piece of meat. Sorry, but this is one bad plotline.

Judgement Road

I usually enjoy reading Feehan's books. I do not mind explicit sex but this book was pure smut. I kept thinking that this book was written by a man. The sex scenes were way too long and without finesse. Her books usually have much more action. I own most of her books and hope she returns to writing books that will make me want to keep reading.

Strange

I actually had to laugh in few places. There is some seriously dark content in this book, but man these characters and their abilities (despite being human) are ridiculous. I don’t really like MC books, just not into the passing around of women, but I decided to give this one a try because I like a lot of Feehans work. Anya was annoying, I just couldn’t bring myself to like the girl, some people say she went from strong to a doormat I would say she was just never a coherent or consistent character to start with. She goes from one extreme to another in my opinion and despite all her “kindness and understanding” she really isn’t either without a whole lot of talking her out of running away before “she softens”. The whole group of MC’s just have a crazy ass backstory that read like some dark anime.

the story line jumped all over the place

I loved all of the Sea Haven and Sister's of the heart books. I was really looking forward to this series, but this one is little more than a pornographic book. I have read just about everything Feehan has written except the dark books. Love them all, but I think she is getting wrapped up in the sex and forgetting the story.
