Finally on Audible!

Those of us who know and love the Ice Planet Barbarian series have been given an early Holiday treat! Having read all the other books, I truly hope I won’t have to wait too long to hear the rest them on Audible. The storyline is intelligent and well thought out, and the witty repartee even more enjoyable when heard. In this episode, we are introduced to the frozen world dubbed “Not-Hoth” by the Earth women who were first abducted, then marooned there. It’s not long before our heroine Georgie makes contact with Vektal, who she recruits to help her rescue her comrades. As the story moves along, the budding romance between the two develops quickly despite (or maybe because of) finding themselves in one sticky situation after another on their mission. Between smoking hot scenes, more and more is revealed about the planet, its inhabitants, their culture, and their origins. (I always wondered how some of those alien words were pronounced.) Other characters are skillfully introduced so that by the end of the story we are fully vested in following them in the books to follow. So hurry up already, Audible- we’re starving for more!

You get a blue alien and you get a blue alien!!

I never know if I am going to like stories like this until I actually give them a try, I can read the blurbs till the cows come home but I never know until I start listening.

I loved this book, I loved the world how it got set up where I think it’s going I can’t wait to dive in truly enjoyed all the characters and then the conflict they face, how they overcome or deal. It was fascinating and I can’t wait to listen to more.

I loved getting a glimpse into Georgie’s mind and how she thinks things through it was so interesting and enjoyable to see things from her point of view. I really can’t wait for more.

Also the narration fantastic!!! Hands down Hollie and Mason brought this book to life. I can’t get enough. I just wish more books were in the RP!

what I thought

I fell in love with this series when I first read it. To have it on audible is a serious pleasure. The female narrator did a great job she give Liz the proper snotty attitude and Georgia that go to attitude. great job..

Crazy sauce

Although this is the first sci-fi romance I’ve read, I was comforted by the familiar themes Ms. Dixon used in her writing. It's really not much different from multicultural/interracial romance. I like the attempt to balance fate (khui) and choice. I say attempt because in the end, one won out over the other. I admire the effort to show Georgie and Vektal overcoming the language barrier. I also appreciate the author’s creativity and imagination. What I like best is experiencing this via audiobook. The performances are top notch and made the book come alive in a more superior way than reading the ebook would have been.

Note to interested future readers: mostly light but there is a sexual assault scene at the beginning that might be a trigger for some. Also, non-consensual sex.

Survival of the fittest.

Overall, this novel is thoroughly enjoyable for its humour, fun characters, imagination and romance. But that happens AFTER the gruesome beginning and before the heroine meets the good aliens (of which the hero is one).

Several women, all healthy 22 year olds, are stolen from earth by a nasty set of aliens (not associated with the hero and his clan). These aliens control the women in various ways including with sexual violence (rape trigger); and once landed on the Ice Planet, not all women survive. This might be confronting for some readers. However, once the remaining women organise themselves and start on their Ice Planet adventures, the comedy, survival and romance are enjoyable.

Despite the sexy impression given by the cover, this story is a slow-burn and a lovely romance before the sex. And it’s well done with likeable characters, including the barbarians, and good world-building. Our heroine, Georgie, is the bada$$ brave one who scouts the area for the group. I really liked her ethics, no-nonsense outlook, the respect she demonstrated for her barbarian mate (hero), and the respect she demanded for herself. The hero in turn was loving, protective and accepting of difference. Great leaders, the pair of them.

Narrator Mason Lloyd was easy to enjoy from the beginning. However, narrator Hollie Jackson doesn’t sound 22 to me and it took me two thirds of the book to get used to her - by the end I loved her because the narration was so good. Now that I’ve listened to subsequent books in this series, I realise the voice used for Georgie is just one of many voices in Ms. Jackson’s repertoire. She sounds different for each novel's heroine. What a talent.

I recommend this book for a pleasant, light (with the exception of the brutal beginning), romantic and sexy listening experience.

Amazing!!!

I have been waiting for this to become an audio book since first reading the kindle version, and it did not disappoint! This is the first book in one of my favorite series, so I had high expectations. The female narrator was not what I expected for Georgie's voice, but I love the book so I decided to give it a try. She grew on me quickly, and I felt like the narrators did a wonderful job. I am hoping the other books in the series get made into an audio book as well.

So ridiculous, but weirdly I kept listening

This book was so confusing - I actually think the writer could be a pretty decent author, if only she had written a storyline that was worth listening too.
I just truly tried to take the book for what it was, a ridiculous story with shallow characters and flimsy world building, not meant to be anything else other than a quick read with lots of sex scenes. However like most books written along these lines, it got irritating pretty quickly.
The saving features were the narrators and the fact that the characters seemed like they were written to laugh at their own actions and not be taken seriously.

Bleak, unoriginal, male narration was weird

Unpopular opinion time. Warning: if you enjoy this book and get offended easily please keep scrolling. Not suitable for kids or Barbarians with minor intelligence. And you in the back row with the delicate sensibilities, you might want to close your eyes as well this ain't gonna be nice.......small spoilers ahead.

As you can see I have jumped on the bandwagon. Ice Planet has blown up recently on booktok. Seeing as how my cousin and I like to read trash together every once in a while hearing about this constantly felt like a sign. After chapter one I realized it was a mistake and immediately got scared. Why? Because many reviews stated that it was indeed horrible but somehow the readers were well into the series. To be frank I thought I would get sucked in, bashed over the head by an unoriginal blue alien, and wake up in his cave on book 7. Luckily two hours into the audiobook I had no reason to fear.

The tropes are so often the same in Alien romances. And before you banish me to some random planet that luckily has gravitational force with a good oxygen supply, here me out. I practically have a check list. Oh and before I start a little secret.... alien romance are my jam.

(1) Insta love. Instant attraction or curiosity yes I understand two alien beings making first contact is a buffet for the eyes. Instantaneous love requires no effort and for that it's not deserved or even relatable. I honestly don't care if a parisite is telling you any different.

(2)Alien woman are scarse or infertile. It's just been done again and again. All the same plots blending together to make a "why did I even bother" smoothie.

(3) No character development. I am a reader, I need to grow with the characters, learn from them, hell even relating would be nice sometimes. Tell me one woman who if woken up with some blue guy between her legs would not immediately kick him in the face. And also let me remind you of the fact that the protagonist Georgie hasn't bathed in a few weeks and was covered in fecal matter after the ship crashed.

(4)Aliens becoming compatible with humans or vise versa. Good grief at the alien babies and the magical ways we connect with sentient beings from other galaxies. Parasites, alien technology, voodoo. *sigh*

(5) Infinite orgasims. Yes I've been informed that this is smutt don't patronize me. But when you read ten books with these same ideas you start to feel hopeless.

(6)Mr. Alien is always chief or top of the food chain while us little women are inferior. But we don't feel that way because the big brute is always taking care of our every need. Cue the baby maker magically equipment for all you smutty needs.

(7)Massive genitalia!!! Yeah well I got news for ya pal, if they're all hung then it just makes it normal size genitalia. Boooooom *mic drop*

So yeah I am well aware that I'm grumbling and this is suppose to be fun and enjoyable smut. But think about it why can't a book have a plot, sex, creativity, world building, character development, complexities and still be enjoyable? I'm the reader here I can demand to have it all. Writers have done it I swear it's possible so I'm not settling for well the seires gets better around book 9.

Learning languages is always pretty high on my favs list. Seeing the characters interact and piece one another together is wholesome and sweet. But like the insta love we also had insta technology and bugs to fix everything. And there is no need to mention it but I do out of habit, no world building here either. Mountains, tons of snow, and some caves. It's as bleak as it sounds.

Finally, I know right, the ending cue easy way out. Whatever plot was left was wrapped around a single piece of equipment, aka the tracking device. How were these primitive warriors going to save their mates when the aliens with brains came back? Because the women, with their hollow characteristics, are valuable cargo........ yeah I'm going to let you figure that ending out on your own. I'll give you a hint: think of the shortest route imaginable from point A to B. (A) being they are now in immanent perial (B) being and everyone lived happily ever after, the end. Let it be known that point A to B took approximately 3 min.

Ugh I'm not usually this feisty when it comes to book reviews. I don't get off on belittling an author or its readers. But this book has been shoved in my face for the past few months like I was missing out on an adventurous romance. I did my research and looked at reviews with praises everywhere. If someone didn't like it, 99% of the time it was due to the rape scenes. So I wanted to write a review to let off some steam obviously but also tell future readers that if you need a bit more than the norm you ain't going to find it here. Still me, myself, and I enjoy all the annoying tropes. Hell I'm not afraid to say Twilight started my reading conquests. But I need a story, some semblance of realism and relatablity, which if it also includes an angry hot alien I would be so down.

My Barbarian

I have read several dragon books by this author. I had see these Ice Planet books but was not sure about them. Glad i took the chance. I did enjoy them. Human women taken by aliens to sell etc. Due to issues the cargo ship they were on was left on the Ice Planet and the women did not know where they were and if they aliens were coming back.. But they are rescued by "natives of the planet." They have a hard time understanding each other until one of the caves the barbarians use is actually a ship. It has a computer that helps them to learn each others language. I look forward to more in this series, The narrators were great especially Mason LLoyd
