Publisher's summary

The Dallas SWAT team of elite sharpshooters is ultrasecretive. This doesn't sit well with investigative journalist Mackenzie "Mac" Stone. They must be hiding something...and she's determined to find out what.

Keeping Mac at a distance proves impossible for SWAT team commander Gage Dixon. She's smart and sexy, and she makes him feel alive for the first time in years. But she's getting dangerously close to the truth - and perilously close to his heart....

Contains mature themes.

just not feeling it

I would love this if it wasn't so damn predictable any Abby Craden didn't sound like she had a frog in her throat when she did the male voices.

Paige Tyler has become one of my favorite authors.

MacKenzie is a journalist looking for a story about the Dallas SWAT team. The team seems to be doing their job too well. Rumors are they use performance Inhansing drugs. She meets Gage, the leader of the team. They become smitten with each other, but Mac is still digging for the dirt. She talks Gage into letting her hang out at the SWAT headquarters positive she will discover her big story. Great world and character development. Exciting and not run of the mill story telling.

2021 reread…. Man, I forgot how awesome this book was! I love Gage and Mac!

Original 2014 review -

First things first, I HONESTLY, I frigging L-O-V-E-D it!!

Secondly, I have to thank Paige Tyler (and her hubby) for a really original story idea and story. The originality, the way the story unfolds and is seen from multiple points of view is awesome. The characters are truly original in all aspects. Its a breath of fresh air, really. I am not new to the Paige Tyler fanwagon but I will say, the more I read the more I love her work. Each book, each series gets better and better. Paranormal is hard to pull off at times and make it something we haven’t seen before. So to have come across this series, and Paige’s work in general is a wonderful adventure.

**small spoiler alert**

In Hungry like a Wolf we meet the Dallas SWAT team. Gage Dixon, the lead Sargant and fifteen hunky, testosterone filled, greek gods that pack heat. (Dead.. I’m not into dudes and that is hot. Just Saying) We also Meet Mackenzie Stone, journalist for the Dallas Star. Mac, as she is called is an in depth, no holds bar kind of gal. Nothing frightens her away from a story. Good thing for the paper a bad thing for the Dallas SWAT team. Seems a source, a person taken down by the SWAT team during a hostage situation thinks they are juicing up. PED’s are bad news to anyone with a little muscle. They can make you jumpy and violent. So Mac sets out to see if steroids are their real weapon of choice.

This is a truly awesome story and I am very anxious for more of this series!

Great

Great story. I loved how this story unfolded. I do wish for more back story their type of wolves but I do love the protective alpha males. I’m glad the a**hole gene wasn’t so bad that couldn’t stand them, which does happen. Awesome book and I’m definitely listening to the next one!!!

Different strokes, dear listeners

So interesting to read the negative reviews of narrator Abby Craden. After listening to this book, the first of Paige Tyler's SWAT series, I really, really liked the book and the series--which I binge listened to--and really, really, really appreciated Abby Craden's nuanced narration. She's now on my A-list of readers. It's a short list.
Since most of the series is in Audible Escape, if you have that, then listen for yourself. You'll know by the first chapter if you want more or not.
I ended up buying the two not in Audible Escape and have tagged the coming-soon 10th book on my Watch for audible book list on Amazon. I do hope Ms. Craden continues as the narrator.

an amazing werewolf adventure

in the past few years I have read a large number of books containing shifters or werewolves. this book was undoubtedly one of the best! I hope that each member of SWAT gets his own story.

Not bad

Interesting premise - werewolf shifters as a SWAT team.

The overall story flowed well. Mack's idealistic - the world can habdle more than is given credit for and oh, sure people will see werewolves as heros - was a little juvenile for me, but it is fiction.

The subcharacters of the team were interesting and definitely added to the overall storyline and set up well for wanting to see what happens with them getting their HEAs.

There were lots of detail descriptions but not so much that you are left wondering when the character is going to reply to respond like some jooks have. those are easier for me to read than listen to.

The narrator was ok. Voice differences were consistent and inflections were good. Her tone was a little off putting to me, but not so much that it significantly detracted from the story.

Wolf-tastic lol

The story was well written and easy to follow. It had strong characters throughout the book and it left you yearning for the rest of the pack to find their mate. The only thing that I would say that the author could have done a little better in detailing the crime scene so that part was more believable through pack magic or other supernatural beings that could ‘glamour” the scene because it left you wondering how the humans just accepted that am arm missing or bodies ravished/mauled without an explanation of how the police finally closed the case. These books. If you are a dtonv

Enjoyable!

Hot Shifter, intelligent reporter with ethics, evil men. Steamy, sizzle in appropriate places, meaning there is a plot! An enjoyable read.

Awesome

BOOK REVIEW.......
I loved this book. This is the first book by this author that I've read and her writing just blew me away. The story and characters have such depth and vividness to them that they feel like real people. And whats more they feel like people you really would want to get to know in real life rather then just for entertainment purposes. I highly recommend this book.

NARRATOR REVIEW.......
The narrator did a really good job with bring the characters to life.
