Publisher's summary

The Bourne Matrimonial Agency has one rule: Never fall in love with the client. A simple thing to remember...unless you’re a matchmaker with amnesia.

The Duke of Rydstrom requires a wife. Preferably one with a large fortune and a complete lack of curiosity. The last thing he needs is a meddling matchmaker determined to dig up his dark family secrets.

All Jacinda wants is to find a bride for a duke. How hard could that be? He’s handsome, enigmatic...and hiding something. She’s sure of it. Determined to discover what it is, she travels to his crumbling cliffside estate. Yet by the time she washes up on his beach, she can no longer remember who she is or why the duke is so familiar to her. All she knows is that his kisses are unforgettable - and she intends to use every skill she can to discover what’s in his heart....

When Miss Bourne can’t remember what brought her to his ancestral home, Rydstrom intends to keep it that way. Yet as the days pass, his true challenge will be safeguarding his secret while resisting this woman who - confound it all - may well be his perfect match.

A merry go round regency

Every chapter begins with a quote from Jane Austin, as if quoting a classic would elevate this book. However, this book was more a merry go round rather than rollercoaster ride. I found myself wishing for more fiery banter, colorful characters, or action.

Which isn’t to say that I hated it. There was nothing horrible about this book; there was simply not enough to make it memorable. Even the amnesia contrivance played out with very little drama. This is a mild, sweet, slow burn romance without so much as a kiss until almost 6 hours in, one handsy scene hours later, and a single full-on scene at 10 hrs. Ultimately fine as a sale purchase.

Wasn't sure about this book...

At first, I wasn't too sure I was going to like this book. It had a slow start and the narrator's voice would lull me to sleep. However, around chapter 6 I was hooked. The romance between the main characters is slow to build but there are sparks even in the beginning with their intense dislike for one another. I'm curious about other books in the series and look forward to delving into them ASAP.

I liked it

Didn't love it, but liked it. I did wonder a bit about the Aunt's sudden change at the end. I would have appreciated a bit more of an explanation. Loved hero. He was terrific. Jacinda...didn't love. Grew to like her better. Loved the epilogue.

Enjoyable story with great narration.

This was a fairytale like story. It was pleasant to listen to. I liked the tensions between the characters and I loved that they could all have intelligent open conversations. Many other authors rely on plots that revolve around a lot of drama and unspoken thoughts but this author writes a good quality story with well developed characters.
The narrator was very good.

Great!

A nice opening to the series. I’m ready to listen to the second one. There was just enough angst, romance and steamy encounters to move the story along. I am quickly becoming a fan of this author.

The FMC is just awful.

She's nosy for no actual reason. Loosing her memory gave me no sympathy for her. THe MMC is just a bit dull. I DNF'd. It was annoying and boring at the same tie.

An early book

Couldn't get into this one, managed to make it to chapter 14 and then gave up. The plot is predictable, the characters unlikable and the narrator made it worse. I was enchanted by a later book by this author and can only conclude she improved with practice.

A pure delight

A lovely tale, filled with Ms. Lorret’s usual skills with characterizations, plot twists and engaging narrative. Ms. Eyre’s performance is stellar. Enjoyable and highly recommended.

Delightful

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The characters are well-developed and their transformations were from deep within. Ms. Lorret laid out a good plot that finally came to a beautiful HEA.
I’m happy to have found this writer and look forward to reading more of her works.
Justine Eyre narrated the story very nicely.
