Love and Horses

This was a great story. I appreciated the romance (past and present) of Jake and Rich, and I loved their snark and sarcasm as much as their kindness and tenderness. It was sweet to see how much they each loved dogs, cats, and of course, horses. I found the descriptions of Jake's riding events fascinating, and I now want to watch more equestrian competitions. The main and secondary characters were brought to life wonderfully by both the author's words and the narrator's terrific performance; and I was easily able to picture the people, setting, and actions. I found myself hurting when Jake or Rich hurt, and smiling when they were happy. I enjoyed this story and highly recommend it!
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Well written & my 1st by this author but not last

Any additional comments?

A complimentary copy of the audio book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

I've had the ebook version in my possession for a while and who knows when I would have gotten to reading it. When the chance to review the audio book came about, I jumped on it because I KNEW I would finally get to it. :) This is my first book by this author and I really enjoyed it.

It's narrated by Gary Furlong and since this is an audio I guess I will start my review with his narration. It was good - perfect, no, but I did enjoy it. There were instances where I thought he could have put more emotion or emphasis into a scene, and given each MC a more unique voice, but overall I enjoyed his take on the book. He has a nice voice and I've been told his other narrations have accents and I would love to hear that! It's a real talent when listeners don't know which voice is real. ;)

As for the story itself I would have liked to have seen more of Rich and Jake together before the accident that separated them for 8 years. I did feel a connection between them but I would have been more invested and heartbroken about their separation had I been able to see them more early on in the book. Rich and Jake are already a couple when the story starts, and I don't mind that. What is missing, in my opinion, was the romance between them, the spark that started it all, and the camaraderie and shared interests that kept them together. It couldn't have just been riding and horses - there must have been something else besides sex too.

There is a lot going on with this story so I was never bored. I was anxious to hear how Rich and Jake were after the accident - they both were hurt, but Rich was really hurt. When the story continues with present day it's clear neither of them will ever fully recover from the accident, and Jake is very stubborn about admitting his limits. Rich is more accepting of his injuries and limitations and I think his acceptance helped Jake too because Rich wouldn't let Jake BS him.

This was a well written story and my first by this author, but it certainly won't be my last. I do recommend the story and if you have the chance to listen to the audio, it was pretty good too.

P.S. - Jake's dad might start off as a real homophobic jerk, but I never gave up hope that he could change.

Story - 3.75 stars.
Narration - 3.25 stars.

Very entertaining

Where does Fool's Gold rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I enjoyed this audible very much, how am I going to choose where this ranks on my list of audibles. I enjoyed it very much, but to rate it sorry, no two books are the same.

What did you like best about this story?

I like how Jake and Rich had to rebuild their friends/lovers relationship.
They have a bond that kept growing, even after years apart. Lovely.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

Choosing one part would be so very hard. I really liked how the MCs worked out problems, working together again, the Author you can tell knows about horses, with the details given.

Any additional comments?

Very well written, the characters are believable and came to life with the help of Gary Furlong it was nice to listen to a MM book without overdoing the sex, would recommend this to anyone, I will be listening to this again,

I was given this audible book, for an honest review. Which I can say I truly have.
