Publisher's summary

Diana Gabaldon's fans will be delighted to find Jamie and Claire as spirited and endearing as ever in this fourth installment of this magnificent saga. Romance, history, and time travel blend once again as the couple builds a new life together in the wilderness of pre-Revolutionary America.

Twice Claire has used an ancient stone circle to travel back to the 18th century. The first time she found love with a Scottish warrior but had to return to the 1940s to save their unborn child. The second time, 20 years later, she reunited with her lost love but had to leave behind the daughter that he would never see. Now Brianna, from her 1960s vantage point, has found a disturbing obituary and will risk everything in an attempt to change history.

Davina Porter's narrative talent adds a special vibrance and resonance to Gabaldon's complex, colorful characters.

Critic reviews

"Gabaldon's range is impressive, whether she's evoking the rawness of colonial America, the cozy clutter of a modern Scottish parsonage, the lusts of the body or the yearnings of the spirit. Her legion of fans will love diving into this ocean of romance." ( Publishers Weekly)

**LOVE** the first four books!!!!

However, I have discontinued purchasing the audiobooks due to the next three volumes in the series have YET to become available in the unabridged version. Also, unless Davina Porter is the narrator of the next three books...I probably won't bother. What in the world are they thinking??? To change the character's voices at this point in the game is ridiculous! Hope they get it right, otherwise they've lost my interest and a loyal follower of the Outlander series. :(

Another Fantastic Book

The fourth in a series of great books. The narration by Davina Porter was outstanding. Diana Gabaldon's attention to detail makes this series so good. Don't be daunted by the length of the book the story just sweeps you away like you are there with Jamie and Claire.

Unabridged is the only way to go with this series

I'm so glad I waited for the unabridged version. I hope that audible will get more of these wonderful books about Jamie and Claire in unabridged form with the same great narrator. The hours flew by, I hated it to end.

I love this series

Ok, yes, there were slow periods.... but this is an incredibly long book and odds are pretty good that they will occur. But, once it picks up again, you forget you were ever a bit bored with the story. Some people may forward through a bit to skip some of it, but I'm too scared to miss a critical point Gabaldon may be trying to establish for a future link so I don't have the heart to do it. I've highly recommended this to everyone I know that loves a good book. Again, major kudos to Davina Porter for an excellent listen! She's one of the best narrators I've ever listened to.
Brianna did get a bit annoying and I hated that it took so long for Roger to come around - I was angry at the two of them and I hope they come together in the next book for me. As always, Jamie and Clair are wonderful and I love them. I hope Ian is back in The Fiery Cross with more of what happens with his life... I miss him.

Wonderful Book, Wonderful Series

I love this series. I like listening to these books even more than reading them. But I'm frustrated that the entire series isn't available in the unabridged format.

It's a Wonderful Story!!!!

I have read the book three times and I listened on audible and I must say it touches my heart just like reading it does. Diana Gabaldon has a way of telling a story like no other and the characters Jamie and Claire have a love that binds them like no other. Davina Porter's telling of the story makes it almost real.... It's by far the best book and series I have ever read and I have read alot. I give it an A+++++ :)

Obsessed

I absolutely love and adore the combination of Diana’s writing and Davina’s voice and narration. I have been hesitant about audiobooks in the past, sometimes the way people read aloud can be more distracting than enjoyable, but not with Davina. She has incredible fluency and fluctuation that allows you to feel as though you’re hearing the actual characters in conversation, not to mention that she reads multiple different languages and sings! She makes the characters come to life! I’ve often gotten confused as to who was the one talking when reading the book myself but the way Davina uses different voices for each character, I never get confused and can always tell who’s line it is. I’ve never heard anything like it and I cannot wait to continue the series! ☺️

Gabaldon is the best

Would you consider the audio edition of Drums of Autumn to be better than the print version?

I have read and reread this book. I listened to it and enjoyed it as much as the printed version. I love the authors "voice". the narrator did a wonderful job catching the essence of the characters. I found my self so engaged while listening that I was laughing out loud and making the same Scottish noises the characters make.

What did you like best about this story?

The beautiful story is read as well as it read

What about Davina Porter’s performance did you like?

her change in voices to suite the characters.
Her male voices are changes just so that you always know who is speaking

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

There is a star series that follows the books and it is also wonderful
