Publisher's summary

Blair Mallory, last seen in To Die For, has already survived one murder attempt. Now, while planning her wedding and dealing with holiday-season madness, Blair once again dodges a bullet. Or, more precisely, a Buick. And, though the driver's identity remains a mystery, his or her murderous intentions are all too clear.

Or are they? After all, Blair's homicidal ex-husband and his partner-in-crime/wife are safely behind bars. And even Wyatt Bloodsworth, Blair's police detective groom-to-be, isn't inclined to believe she's being targeted again. All of which makes Blair wonder if her close call was simply a mishap.

But the wondering stops when she narrowly cheats death again in another seemingly innocent accident. Two strikes is all it takes to convince Blair that she's back in someone's crosshairs. And the only thing more frightening is that Wyatt still doubts her. That means this time no one will be watching Blair's back when she sets out to get the drop on her would-be killer - before whoever it is finally drops her.

This narrator is great!

I am so glad they didn't use the same narrator for this book as they did for "To Die For". I still liked the characters and the story of this one as well, but the narration this time was excellent.

I think you should know

I think you should know (prior to purchase) that you need to read/ listen to "To Die For" before starting this one (regardless of the fact that the "publisher's summary" is basically a synopsis including the ending of the first book). This installment is more or less the same book as the first one with some of the details switched. I have mixed feelings on this but because I really enjoyed the first one it did not bother me too much. What really irritated me is the switch in narrators. Ms. Bean does a fine job and I wouldn't have an issue with her except it was distractingly different from the way the first book was read by Franette Liebow. Except maybe that Ms. Bean over pronounced her h's, which is what most people who try to do a southern accent do, like saying "wuh-hut" instead of what but this is just a personal preference on my part. Ms. Liebow did such an amazing job in the previous book with the southern accent and making Blair, who could very easily be unlikable, seem like a person you would enjoy talking to. I hate it when narrators switch in the middle of a series. Especially with the outstanding job done by the previous narrator.

Nuttiest heroine.

Would you listen to Drop Dead Gorgeous again? Why?

I had read the book and it was even better with Ms Bean narrating. This is a comedy, light mystery and love story rolled into one. Written in first person so it is nutty Blair's convoluted mind telling the story.

What did you like best about this story?

Blair 's outlook on men and women's relationships. The hero is smitten and hangs onto his woman on this crazy ride.

What about Joyce Bean’s performance did you like?

She is the perfect voice for crazy Blair.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed non stop thru out the book.

Any additional comments?

Linda Howard has not written another first person book other than this two book series.. Wish there was a way to resurrect this heroine for another a amusing jaunt into her view of the world.

Oh Blair, You Crack ME Up!

Would you listen to Drop Dead Gorgeous again? Why?

Yes! And I have listened to it several timeseach time was better than the last.

What did you like best about this story?

I just really love the banter with Blair and her man. She's so sassy and it makes Wyatt CRAZY CRAZY in love!

What about Joyce Bean’s performance did you like?

Not a huge fan of Joyce Bean, I thought she sounded too old but I guess after my umpteenth listen I just got used to it. The story out weighs the narration.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No crying in this book. Laughter, oh yeah. This book had me in the first five minuted doubled over. It was a whole fight about Blair being BLAIR BLOODSWORTH.

Any additional comments?

This was a great follow up book from the first, 'TO DIE FOR'.

Boring

It is hard to believe Linda Howard wrote this substitute-for-anesthesia. If I listen to the whole thing, I'll be in a permanent vegetative state.

Love the book

Would you consider the audio edition of Drop Dead Gorgeous to be better than the print version?

Audio

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

I love audio and I'm very picky about the narration. Reviews for To Die For, people gave the narrator such bad reviews but she made Blair who she is. She is a southern, whiny, spoiled brat and Franette Liebow really made you feel that character. Fall in Love with that character. Then you listen to this book and wonder, Where is Blair!. I was really looking forward to this book then felt horribly disappointed when my favorite character was gone. I still love the story but after listening to To Die For, this book was almost boring. I would love to hear it rerecorded with the original Blair.

Drop dead fabulous !

This second book is as good as the first. Absolutely love her writing. I’ve read just about all of her books, they’re that good. Thanks for the entertainment.

A favorite LH book, but…

I love love love both of the Blair Mallory stories, but the audible for both is unbearable! Not only does Joyce Bean have an annoying voice, but the delivery is even worse. Could not finish. Back to rereading the actual book. Which, btw, is great (but read the first, “To Die For”, first).

Eye-rolling Fun.

Loved it as much as the To Die For, maybe even better in audio form as this one has a better narrator, in the first book the narrator made Mallory sound old. Per Usual Linda Howard makes a good mystery romance, she set up the plot for this one in the last book, so it’s not hard to figure out who is after Mallory. While the story is a little dated, it’s not bad or that noticeable.
