Publisher's summary

We survived the land of the Witch’s Reign - that much is true. But our arrival home is far from welcome.

My idiot brother has taken it upon himself to ride off in search of a mythical healer, someone who might help him walk again. Assuming she doesn’t eat him first. Because she’s a dragon and happens to reside in the deepest reaches of the Dragon’s Ground. Like I said, idiot.

I’d go after him myself, but his leaving is not the only problem I face. My mentor has forbidden me to leave the safety of the Stockyards. Her reasoning?

That I am too weak to weather the coming storms.

With my pride wounded in more ways than one, I must gather the few allies’ I have left. My ex-husband's new girlfriend at the top of the list and a goat bleating Satyr.

FML.

If I’m lucky I’ll find a small dragon and a Jinn whose blue eyes still haunt my dreams along the way.

Buckle up, buttercup, this ride is about to take a seriously unforeseen twist.

Home run once again!

Dragon’s Ground is a must listen for fantasy lovers! Action, suspense, battles, death, and friendship abound in this story! The story had me yelling at the characters, laughing at their dialogues, and crying when they weeped. I didn’t want to stop listening! The characters are believable and likable and the storyline has plenty of action, suspense, drama, and a little heat. I am so looking forward to book 3. Dragon’s Ground can be enjoyed as a standalone but you should really enjoy book 1 first in order to keep up on the events and characters! The narrator did a freakin’ awesome job with providing unique voices for each character, the right tone for the scenes, and speed of reading!

Shannon Mayer knocks it out of the park!

If you loved Witch's Reign, you won't want to miss Dragon's Ground! It's a wild ride that keeps you on the edge of your seat and loving every minute of it!

Zam and Lila are such remarkable, inspirational, and well developed characters. They are both thought to have been born differently and don't fit in with the status quo. As a result, others don't always treat them kindly and though they struggle with not feeling good enough, they still work to better themselves and persevere.

During a difficult time in my life, Shannon Mayer's characters help inspire me to keep perservering and pushing on. I cannot thank her enough for that.

The narrator does a fabulous job as well!

Awesome

Ok I have to say book 2 was way better then book 1, the heroine is not as annoying and now that she believes in herself it is a lot better I hope she kicks her ex ass too

Enjoying the Character Growth

This book didn't quite suck me in and hold me there like Witch's Reign did. It's still a good book. And let's be honest, taking 2 days instead of 1 to finish an audiobook is hardly not being sucked in. My measuring stick is just skewed since I didn't actively wake up feeling the NEED to finish the book first thing in the morning. (Which, has happened, and thankfully for my productivity, doesn't happen often.)

There is a lot going on in this story, with multiple people working toward their own agenda. And we, the listener, are only let in on little bits of information at a time.

Because of that, I'm still not sure who all can be trusted and who can't. Which I like because honestly, sometimes I just want to be surprised, or let down.

I have been enjoying the growth of the characters. I would be disappointed if there are more than a few books and there's no growth of a character, especially one that doesn't start the series as a super-accomplished badass.

The story ends on … not quite a cliffhanger. The "current" conflict of the focus of this book was resolved. However, it's pretty telling where the story will go next. So, I'd say it's enough lead-up to the next book with enough resolution that I don't feel it was a cliffhanger.

I'm going to keep on listening to this series.

Besides, I can't wait to hear more of the creative cursing from Zamira.

Narrator Note:
Lauren Fortgang is still one of my favorite narrators. So, if you're stumbling on this review as the first review from me. You should know that I've listened to a lot of audiobooks in a few short months and I know that a bad narrator can ruin a book. Lauren is the opposite of a bad narrator. She brings the characters alive and sucks me into their world.

In full disclosure, I received a free copy of the audiobook for an honest review

Good storyline, horrible language

I really enjoyed the storyline and narrator but the language was horrible . I probably will not finish this series.

Another Mayer book that I thoroughly enjoyed!

This is the six book now that I’ve listen to you by her. I have loved all of them. Can’t wait to get started on the next one. I really appreciate the fact that she always has Fortgang narrate, it makes it so easy to stay involved in the story when it’s the same narrator…
