AN OKAY LISTEN.. BUT SADLY IMO NOTHING SPECIAL

Violet is a Librarian, she lives alone in an apartment block full of elderly people, her parents are dead and she doesn't have friends.. so when a 14 year old student called Frankie, who has been a daily visitor to the Library, needs a lift home because her busy oldest brother Luke had forgotten to pick her up yet again - Violet steps in and takes the stranded girl home. However, instead of being grateful Luke isn't happy.. and, due to a misunderstanding, he misjudges Violet and callously shows his contempt and dislike for her.. which lasts for their first few meetings - but then things change and Luke begins to see her in a new way.

Luke and his two brothers run the busy Skid Row Kings Garage, they all live together and they are heavily involved in Street Racing with Luke being the driver. He's trying to juggle everything and he doesn't appreciate a stuck up Librarian interfering in his, and his sister's, lives. But, through various heated encounters, Luke soon realizes he may have totally misread and misjudged Violet.

I don't know what happened but early into the story I lost my connection to both the hero and also the heroine who had started out as enemies slamming doors, badmouthing each other and speeding off from one another. But, after their third or fourth encounter, the plot did a 180 degree turn as Luke saw his mistake and then they couldn't keep their hands off each other and shortly after that they were in love. For me, there was nothing exciting here, no riveting plot, no likeable main characters, a bit of angst and drama with a reckless aunt and a bitchy rival but no moving scenes depicting two people in love.. just no depth to the story. I also didn't feel any chemistry between the h/h and I was underwhelmed with the sex scenes too. Dual POV's and good narration.

Worth a credit? I'm sorry but I have to tell it like I felt it and sadly Luke and Violet's love story was a very light contemporary romance, it's not memorable and I wouldn't wish to visit it again. So, for all those reasons and that there are far far better and much much 'meatier' listens out there, I personally opt for no don't spend your hard earned credit on this.. but perhaps a $4.95 sale purchase. But hey, at the time of writing this, three other people have given it 5* so what do I know!!?

Fantastic

Had me smiling and laughing a lot of the time. Narrator was good though sometimes I had to back track on the male parts as her voice didn’t change enough. Would’ve been great as a duet but this narrator was nice to listen to her voice one of the better women narrator. I wish the other books had her instead. Enjoyed and so worth the credit.

Love this Author!

The women in Winter Travers books are the best!! my only comment is I really wished they had a man do the man parts.

Poor narration made the story lack

The narrator would not be bad as a juvenile voice but not okay for a late 20’s or male. Lack of tone and inflection made the story start to get on my nerves.
Many places lack information and there was no real plot or build up of The characters Personalities.
But it’s a good short listen that doesn’t really need you to pay attention to keep up with.

Luke and Violet

I really liked the story and the knowledge of cars was impressive. Two people who didn’t like each other in the beginning falling in love.

I listened to the book on audible and the voice reminded me of one of the girls in Two Broke Girls tv show.

My one and only complaint was about 3/4 in the guy said Princess WAY too much. It got to be distracting. If some of those were cut out I’d have given it 5 stars.

Narrators midwestern accent is too much!

Book is ok but the narration is subpar. The narrator has potential but she needs more practice and elocution lessons to loose her strong accent. Also she can’t do a male voice and it’s hard to figure out which character is talking. Skip this one one audible, maybe try to find it in an ebook.

Downshift

I loved , adored, and enjoyed every moment of this book. I’m going to be honest and admit that I have read this book twice before, hearing it was fantastic. I did wish there was a male for the male parts, that being said... Jessica Eastwick was a great narrator, kudos for taking on both female and male characters.

Needed Editing

2.5 star
I wasn't a big fan of the narrator. The premise of the story was good and the storyline was low angst. There were errors in the story that should have been fixed prior to audio being released such as narrator repeating same line twice and her voice was the same for all the characters so when POV changed I had issues.
