Publisher's summary

A brilliant child protégée, she dreams of becoming a doctor and a surgeon...and accomplishes her goals. Unfortunately, her youth and round, childlike face work against her. No matter how skilled she becomes, how knowledgeable, the old school, male-dominated medical hierarchy wants to keep her in her place.

Deanna has worked hard to become an expert in her chosen field, but few believe this "child" capable. Specializing in infectious diseases, she travels the world - from the States to Europe to South America - honing her skills before winding up in Africa where her skills are desperately needed.

Meeting a nurse by the name of Madison MacGregor, she finds they share an insatiable curiosity and a love of helping others, but falling in love was not what she intended. Later, when she loses Maddie to a misunderstanding, she is haunted by the one that got away....

Ten years have passed, and both the doctor and nurse have moved on with their lives, but fate intervenes when they find themselves working at the same hospital. Their friendship is revived.... Can their love be rekindled? Will the past haunt them or bring them closer? Will the secrets that both harbor keep them from realizing a future together?

I am not sure what to even think.

After reading the reviews I thought this would be a great listen. Maybe the actual book was, but the narrator ruined this for me. Dee's "Boston" accent was awful and there were times that she would speak in the accent when Maddison was talking. Maybe that voice was my main turn off with this one. I am assuming the book is better, so maybe try it.

Beautifully crafted reunion romance

The opening of the book has Madison receive exotic flowers from a secret admirer. Discovering who sent her the flowers takes her back into the past when she spent time in Africa as a Nurse. There she first met the smart and enigmatic doctor Deanna Cooper and fell slowly in love with her. The fear of gossip and rejection has her end the relationship before they could figure out if their love could flourish.
Ten years later in a hospital in Los Angeles the two woman meet again, the life they led had changed and matured them. They form a tentative friendship in the sometimes hostile environment of a LA Hospital and old feelings start to raise their head.

The story has wonderfully developed characters that draw you in from the first chapter and have you fall in love with them. Exotic places throughout the the book draw you in and the description and narration make it easy to picture Madison and Deanna in the African countryside as well as working side by side ten years later.
K'Anne Meinel has a great way of showing all the little things that just happen in life and make up the big picture of a young woman maturing into adulthood.

I loved the way Amelia Patricks brings the individual characters to life with their own unique voice and draws you deep into the story.

Linda D

This was a great story, I really enjoyed it. Great how it explained the beginning of the relationship. I would like to say more, but you need to read the book. No spoil alerts here.
Thank you k’Anne Meinel

Long lost love

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. At first it felt like it took a while for the story to get going. I do admit I got lost with some of the minor characters and had to go back a few times. However it quickly played out and I understood what was happening again. The story of the Doctor and the Nurse was endearing and I often found myself smiling over how charming it was. I enjoyed a range of emotions and happily ended this book with a smile.

The narration was a little more tough to get into. I listened mostly with earbuds and could occasionally hear distracting background noises, which made it feel a little canned in. Those noises were less noticeable listening over speakers. The narrator however was easy to listen to, and made clear distinction between the characters.

I truly enjoyed this book and I am sure I will be revisiting it in the future. I did not want it to end. I fell in love and could have listened to the characters lives for so much longer, but the ending certainly was satisfying.

Loved It

This was an excellent, well written book that I didn’t want to stop listening to and I definitely didn’t want it to end. I will definitely be reading and listening to more books written by K’Anne. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars to the performance was because it seemed like some of the characters accents came and went!! Otherwise, fantastic all the way around!

Even better as an audiobook

I read this book several months ago and really enjoyed it. The narration made it even better. The story is fantastic, and the narrator really captured the characters.

Wonderfully Romantic Book

Love born in Africa but not brought to competition is found again in Los Angeles ten years later. Deanna, a prodigy doctor, and Madison, a nurse, meet and fall in love. When fear keeps Madison from committing and Deanna from articulating her feelings they separate. Good performance.

Ten years later they cross paths at a hospital in Los Angeles. Will they find their way back to the love that binds them.

A book of a great surprise

It took about an hour until I got into this book, but Amelia Patricks does a very good job reading this book. And the story line is excellent. The characters are very well developed, the dialogues are interesting. And as I said the story line is absolutely engaging...
The beginning is a little confusing but once you get over the confusion you will enjoy it very much

Loved it

It is the kind of book that you listen from beginning to end none stop.
The only thing that I missed while listening was viewing it in images. Making this book in a film would make it the film of the year.
Madison and Diana are two women that find each other after starting their story in Africa and getting back to California 10 year later. Diana works hard to get Madison back and rebuild their relationship and love. Their love is stronger than all the hurdles they face, such as a crazy ex-husband, and mother. Luckily for Diana and Madison, they can live happily ever after.
Must listen :-)

Excellent Audio!

I loved Doctored by K'Anne Meinel. Beautiful story. The combination of the tension in the beginning of the book with the hope and fragility of the situation makes for very interesting reading/listening. I loved all the different settings. Loved Deanna and Madison. Amelia Patricks does an excellent job with the narration.
