Publisher's summary

When ex-marine Georgia Bennett left the military for high-end private security, it was supposed to soften her snarky attitude. Instead, her short fuse just earned her a punishment of an assignment: protect smart-ass tech genius and Department of Defense contractor Parker Livingston. It should have been easy - only no one warned Georgia that Parker was one seriously drop-dead-gorgeous geek.

The last thing Parker needs is a bodyguard, especially not one with killer curves and a sassy mouth who tempts him to do something incredibly stupid. He's too busy investigating whoever is turning his technology against him and threatening his team of covert operatives. But when an assassin sends Georgia and Parker running for their lives, it might just be the explosive sexual chemistry and the trust that's building between them that saves their necks. Because the only thing more dangerous than the combination of Parker's intellect and Georgia's aim is their steadfast desire to protect each other, no matter the cost.

Not Defenseless!

What an awesome book! I loved how the author flipped the bodyguard persona from male to female. Georgia was assigned to protect Parker. Their chemistry was outstanding from the beginning. This story has so many facets. I loved the symbolism of the watches, the name of the cat (PITA), the complex characters, the action and the means to survive. This book was so well written with the dynamics and thrilling storyline. The performance by Aiden Snow was fabulous. I loved his accents and various character voices. I cannot wait to listen to more books by this author and narrator. This book is one of my favorite romantic suspense books that I have listened to.

Do You Want to Play a Game?

When I heard that line, I knew I was completely hooked into this book. OK, I was hooked even before that. This first in the series of the Somerton Security has us meeting Ethan Somerton, owner of the agency. He is having some issues with his employee Georgia Bennett, so he gives her an assignment she has to take to save her job. Having Georgia Bennett be a strong, sexy, independent and protective bodyguard for Parker Livingston, the genius behind a highly intelligent government computer program is a refreshing change. But that is only part of the story. Elizabeth Dyer has woven a tale of intrigue, danger, lies, greed and action that keeps you on the edge of your seat, all the while you are routing for lives to be saved, love to survive and corruption to be extinguished. The characters in the story are so well developed and the scenes so well written that it is like I was there, experiencing the havoc with all of them, from every gunshot to every kiss. The dynamic between Parker and Georgia is believable, and it's easy to feel their push-pull emotions. I loved this book and look forward to Ethan's story.

Romantic suspense books need a certain kind of narrator to make the story believable and the choice of Aiden Snow is perfect. He is able to create a world with his voice that sucks you into the drama and make you feel it all happening. I loved his performance.

Really well written

I really loved that the author let the female be brave, smart, and strong. no wimpy females here. The male was unsure of himself, but not a wimp either, they worked so well together. I can not wait until the next book comes out.

One of the best audiobooks of 2017

I’m told this is Elizabeth Dyer’s debut book and I’m in awe, she has earned herself a fan in me. Defenseless totally blew me away. If I could give it more than 5 stars, I would. It is a combination of everything I love in one tidy little package. It has action, it has romance, it has suspense and it has twists you won’t see coming. I loved it so much that I’ve just ordered the paperback, and preordered Relentless, the next book in the series. It’s one of my favourite books of 2017, it is definitely rounding the year out with a bang! I loved the writing, Elizabeth has a way with words that grabs the reader’s attention and keeps it. She includes enough detail to paint a picture in the reader’s mind but leaves enough to allow them to use their imagination too. I was on the edge of my seat more than once. I was hooked from the first chapter until the last. I spent a full day immersed in this story because I just couldn’t put it down. I really like the cover, it’s eye catching and intriguing, the only thing that would make it better would be the inclusion of the narrator’s name on the audio edition.

These characters are so good, I loved Georgia and Parker. I want to know more about the team, and about Isaac, and Ethan. Georgia Bennett is one badass chick. I loved her so much. I wanna be her when I grow up. She’s strong yet has a vulnerability about her that Parker seemed to not only notice but nurture. When she lets her guard down she shows what a resilient person she is. I loved that she could handle herself and was the protector. Parker Livingston is everything. I love him. So much! He’s a geek, but don’t let that fool you, he can take care of business just as much, if not more than his military buddies. He’s smart and charming, funny and strong, his vulnerability (which is different to Georgia’s) is endearing and makes you just want to hug him… among other things. Together they are perfect. Sometimes you read a book and the characters have to work at it, at least in my opinion, but not so with Georgia and Parker, they were made for one another.

The relationship between Parker and Georgia is one that I loved. The banter was fantastic, I’m a big banter fan and they work it so well. It never felt forced or out of place. It fit their personalities well and what was going on around them. The sexy times seemed organic to them and the situations they were faced with, everything felt like it earned its place in the book. The relationship is forged in the heat of the chase, but it’s steadfast. Even when they don’t see eye to eye on a subject, they still always have the other person’s best interests at heart, even if the other person can’t see it. Sure, I may have shouted at Parker a time or two, and I may have wanted to shake Georgia, but rest assured the book has a HEA and leaves you craving more. I can’t wait for more from Somerton Security. I wouldn’t say it ends on a cliff-hanger, just that it gives you a lead into the next book, Georgia and Parker’s story is complete.

Aiden Snow was the perfect choice for this book. Perfection, I tell you. The little nuances and inflections he uses in his voice really make each character stand out. I adored his performance of Parker, it was everything I could have imagined and hoped for when I read the synopsis of the book. Georgia sounded feminine, but it didn’t sound forced, as can sometimes happen. Aiden has the perfect voice for the sexy times, no joke, it’s enough to make a girl swoon… if one is so inclined. The emotion he put into some of the scenes was effective and possibly melted my heart a tad. Aiden is fast becoming one of my go-to narrators. He never fails to deliver a brilliant performance that captivates me and leaves me wanting more. The production was smooth with no issues at all.

A delightful listen

If you haven't listened to this book, you need to. It is absolutely good and well delivered, especially for a new author. At least I believe she is new because I tried to research her and couldn't find anything on her and this is the only book that comes up. Elizabeth, you did a great job and I can't wait to listen to more.

Great new contemporary romance!

If you could sum up Defenseless in three words, what would they be?

Romantic; Action; Suspenseful

What did you like best about this story?

I really loved the characters and the action was very well written.

Have you listened to any of Aiden Snow’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is my first listen to Aiden Snow's narration and I must say I very much enjoyed it. He has a way of conveying the emotions of the characters that I really like.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I did get teary-eyed over Georgia's devotion and despair over her brother's "death."

Any additional comments?

I know I'll have to wait for the sequel, but it will be well worth it!

Thrilling suspense mixed with humor

Very good romantic suspense, fast-paced with excitement at every corner. Parker and Georgia are great together, smart, funny and totally bad ass.

Great suspense

The characters in this book are so well written and I liked them immediately. The suspense is great. I did not like the couple of torture scenes nor the graphic sex, so I skipped those parts. However, the book as a whole is very entertaining. The narration is very good!!
