Publisher's Summary

Deacon has an ugly history, a history that broke him, leaving him a ghost of a man. Out of necessity he left the normal world to descend into the criminal world and found he fit. So he stayed. Cold as ice and living off the grid, Deacon has no intention to connect, not with anyone. Then he returns to some remote cabins in the Colorado Mountains and finds they have new owners. One of them is Cassidy Swallow, a young woman willing to work hard to live her quiet dream in a house by a river surrounded by aspen and pine.
Suddenly Deacon finds he's at war. Cassidy's pull for him to connect is strong. He fights it, but he loses, always coming back for more. But when he does, he gives her nothing. From the first time she sees him, Cassidy knows Deacon is dead inside. She knows he’s the kind of man who could destroy a woman. But one night when Deacon's control slips, Cassidy takes a chance. He might break her. He also might be her dream come true.

What the Critics Say

"Narrator Stella Bloom sucks listeners into Cassidy's ruminations on the hospitality industry, her failed romances, and her addiction for John Priest. Bloom's reading is as juicy as listening to your best friend talk about her love life." (AudioFile)

As usual Kristen Ashley has delivered a story that captures your imagination and you're able to mentally play each Chapter in your mind. Deacon is empty and emotionally damaged by his past, he's a dead man walking, but slowly, over years of occasionally staying in the same holiday cabin, the ice around his heart slowly melts and his heart starts to beat again.... and the cause is the beautiful, gutsy but vulnerable owner of the cabins Cassidy.

Deacon is very much an Alpha male who speaks with a 'biker type' short word sentences and he has a sexy dirty mind and mouth. However, he's caring but not sharing with Cassidy and she hardly knows anything about him despite this she falls hard for him...... until she finds a photograph that'll rock her world and when Deacon fails to explain anything it will crush her, breaks her heart and sends him into a downwards spiral.

Worth a credit? Dual POV, good narration, nice romance, great chemistry, scorching hot sex scenes and lots of drama made this a creditworthy listen and I think there's just one more book to go in the Unfinished Hero series and it's Knight"s brother Nick.... yaye can't wait.

Deacon Stars

Ok first this book is HOT… Freaking SCORCHING!! It was a little slow going but it so needed to be in my opinion. Being as it’s the second time I have read this book and the first time was a few years ago, sooo glad I did a refresher.

Deacon is a mystery in Raid’s book so much so you just want.. No need to know his story. And boy oh boy do we get it. I know a lot of people will say it’s the typical broken man finding a women and I say so freaking what.

Romance for me is an escape, hearts and flowers and a big brooding man who need the love of a good woman to bring him back from his dark head space. This did not happen instantly or anything like that. I think that’s why I liked it so dang much it took YEARS for her to work her way in.

“So, badasses drink hot cocoa,”

Cassie has always wanted what she has, to run a successful business in the Colorado Mountains. She has a house and 11 cabins she rents out. Cabin 11 gets rented out by a “John Priest” a lot. *Fans Self*
She knew what she wanted and boy howdy was she going to get it. It didn’t happen overnight, but with a lot of hard work and patience she gets her slice of happiness.

“You’re a vulnerability… My vulnerability. I have no vulnerabilities. I spent years shavin’ every last one away from me so there was nothin’ left. Now I got one, a big one, and I do not giver one f -- as long as she’s in Colorado, sitting’ on her porch, waitin’ for me to get back.”

Cassie was willing to take Deacon for what he was, what he showed to her. But circumstance changes and he won’t give. This isn’t easy and they need to fight for the good life. Maybe even more than other. His past isn’t something he wants to talk about and he has been running away from it for far too long. But once the fight becomes reality and reality becomes what you need and what it to be. It becomes all about sweet.

“You're the most beautiful woman I've seen in my entire f---' life,”

There is nothing sweeter than ending a book smiling and happy but wanting to know what is going to happen next. I have been putting off the last book for a while. Because I wasn’t ready for this series to be over but it’s time and I am heading in. Wish me luck on the other side.

Also Freaking LOVED this narration.. Like all of Kristen’s book’s I haven’t found a narrator I haven’t loved.
