Stand alone but should read others first

Most stand alone books in series briefly involve or reference previous characters. This book spends 1/2 time on the old characters and there are a lot of them. I felt it detracted from the story because there were so many players who I didn't know and didn't have investment in. The dialogue was prolonged in this way. Wanted more time with the main characters. Should read the other books first

Smart & Funny

This has been a hit and miss series for me, but I enjoyed this story very much. Marie & Matt are very likable characters, both are smart and funny and their relationship is a slow burn. There are check ins with other characters from the previous books which is always a nice touch. I would have enjoyed a little more from Matt’s POV, but overall a decent read.

Dating-ish

Marie and Matt didn’t start off so great but they grew to be friends then lovers. It was an interesting story but one I couldn’t get enough of.

I like how they challenged each other and even if they had troubling conversations they were always honest with each other.

Great ending, loved the narration.

superb!

Marie & Matt's heartfelt story, the news from the rest of the gang, the slow growth & burn, the permanent smile on my face, the anticipation, the truth, the sweetness, the sexiness, the cleverness of this book, the choice of Joy Nash as a narrator... Thank you, Mrs. Reid <3

Not Sure I Liked It?

Not sure I liked this book. I personally am highly against Artificial Intelligence in Humanoid form. Which makes it hard to like this book. I find the idea of a companion robot (in it's original idea form) to be gross. Robots are not humans. And that Matt was creating one really turned me off.

I also couldn't get behind them. I didn't like Matt. He was really out of line on multiple occasions. Calling her ex? Showing up at the airport cause he was jealous yet wasn't open to a relationship? If he isn't interested he doesn't get a say in her love life. he doesn't get to control it. He was toying with her and I'm not about it. Their relationship was unhealthy and gross. Plus he was interfering with her job! Also that it took her so long to stand up to him was highly frustrating.

The slow burn was a bit too slow.... But I did like that they didn't fall in love then have a big horribleness that dragged on for them to finally be together.

As for the narrators - I really wish Joy would be closer on all of her voices. Especially when she has narrated half of them. She also should have listened to the first book to know Janie has a high pitched voice. ALSO the male was awful - so robotic. And while Matt is nerdy Joy didn't make him robotic in delivery. She set the precedent and the male narrator should have followed.

Dating-ish is even better by audio

I love all of Penny Reid's books but my adoration of this one has increased over time. Recovering from eye surgery, I just listened to it for the first time(free w Audible membership). The dialogue scenes among numerous favourite characters about the growing role of AI in human interactions was engaging, funny, and thought-provoking. Joy Nash has an amazing voice, and I marvel at her ability to perform so many, so well and she captured the sexual tension between Marie and Matt perfectly

Not A Fan

I’ve tried Penny Reid book before. So many fans think they’re hilarious. I find them terribly boring but thought I’d give another one a try. I got as far as 4 chapters in and had to bail. I’d rather watch paint dry. It’s less irritating.

Wonderful

I loved the experience of listening to this book. While the story itself was just flabbergastingly good, the performance was *chefs kiss.* this is now one of my new favorites and I highly recommend it! The writing is wonderful, funny, sexy, and enthralling. The voice actor is clearly a true professional. I admit that I stayed up all night just to listen - finished the book in less than 24 hours. I’m addicted now!

I honesty love love LOVE these books!

Marie and Matt were the most sensual/sexual couple yet I think. their banter and how they weren't together but were was the best. I seriously think this series could be a mini series... Netflix pick it up already!
