Publisher's summary

Seeking a new life away from bad circumstances in her native America, Scarlett Ward moves her daughters to England. Their new home, a run-down old rectory, is vandalized the first night in their new country. When Scarlett calls the police to report the crime, a handsome deputy constable appears.

Archer Phipps is a well-known figure in North Yorkshire. Tall and handsome, he is immediately taken with the gorgeous American with the dark hair and red lips. A routine police report turns into something warm and curious, and Archer finds himself drawn to the luscious woman. He can also see that she is very guarded. Curiosity turns to concern, and concern to genuine interest. Archer and Scarlett began to fall for each other quickly with a fiery passion borne of lust and magnetic attraction.

But something evil is lurking in the mist of the North Yorkshire moors. Ten years ago, when Archer was a new inspector, a series of murders were committed by an individual given the horrific nickname of the Yorkshire Cutter. His crimes were particularly brutal, leaving notes behind at the crime scenes that incorporated poems of great English poets into his twisted taunts. Now, as Archer and Scarlett draw closer, the Yorkshire Cutter rears his ugly head again.

Archer finds himself once again embroiled in tracking down a killer that now has his sights set on Scarlett. Through life and death, love and loss, Archer and Scarlett face off against a killer in a tense climax with an unexpected twist. Part thriller, part mystery, and all love story, Darkling, I Listen is a true adventure in every sense of the word.

Kathryn Le Veque is unbeatable!

Another winner by a wonderful author. Well written and packed with everything you need from a book. Love, action, romance, passion, angst but also toe curling love scenes that will make your knees weak. Of course Brian J Gill's reading puts the cherry on top. Five stars and highly recommended.

a wonderful love story and mystery

kathryn, you've done it again . I love the old world stories, but I must say that this one was fresh and modern, yet it retained that magic that is so pleasing. the characters were well drawn and as I listened it was a most wonderful movie in my head. brian j gill is exquisite with the voices for both men and women. in fact no one does it better.

I most strongly recommend this one fornfirst class entertainment.

Love this modern Le Veque

I wasn't sure what to expect with a modern story. I was thrilled with this one. Hunky hero, smart heroine and quirky characters thrown in. The mystery was strong and keeps you guessing

Creepy, exciting fun!

What did you love best about Darkling, I Listen?

That it was a contemporary modern-day setting, but still back in historic England & ties back to Kathryn's other medieval characters from prior novels.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Darkling, I Listen?

The grisly murder scenes. The effect seemed more creepy & horrifyingly real listening to the audiobook vs when I read the novel. I usually don't have a problem with horribly violent descriptions when reading them in the books, but they bother me more when I hear them read in the audiobooks for some reason.

Which character – as performed by Brian J. Gill – was your favorite?

Scarlett had great personality!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

That moment when Archer realized Scarlett & her girls were in danger as they fit the serial murderer's victims. I kept thinking "Get there faster!!!" when he was racing to them.

LOVE this!

I usually read Kathryn's books about her lovable and hunky knights. This is the first modern mystery romance of hers I read (or listened to) and I loved it! Her writing rocks no matter the genre!

You Won't See It Coming

I have absolutely loved every Kathryn Le Veque book I have ever read. This one will keep you on the edge of your seat. There is both mystery and romance. You won't see it coming. The ending was quite a surprise. It was quite a shock. As with all of Kathryn's contemporary romances, this was absolutely riveting.
