Publisher's summary

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts comes a trilogy about the land we’re drawn to, the family we learn to cherish, and the people we long to love...

Book One of The Cousins O’Dwyer Trilogy

Dark Witch

With indifferent parents, Iona Sheehan grew up craving devotion and acceptance. From her maternal grandmother, she learned where to find both: a land of lush forests, dazzling lakes, and centuries-old legends.

Ireland. County Mayo, to be exact. Where her ancestors’ blood and magic have flowed through generations - and where her destiny awaits.

Iona arrives in Ireland with nothing but her Nan’s directions, an unfailingly optimistic attitude, and an innate talent with horses. Not far from the luxurious castle where she is spending a week, she finds her cousins, Branna and Connor O’Dwyer. And since family is family, they invite her into their home and their lives. When Iona lands a job at the local stables, she meets the owner, Boyle McGrath. Cowboy, pirate, wild tribal horsemen, he’s three of her biggest fantasy weaknesses all in one big, bold package.

Iona realizes that here she can make a home for herself - and live her life as she wants, even if that means falling head over heels for Boyle. But nothing is as it seems. An ancient evil has wound its way around Iona’s family tree and must be defeated. Family and friends will fight with each other and for each other to keep the promise of hope - and love - alive...

Loved the story..

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Nora Roberts has another trilogy that is riveting. The storyline is good, but I was not impressed with the narrator.

What other book might you compare Dark Witch to and why?

Morrigan's Cross...another Nora Roberts book about the fight between good and evil.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Katherine Kellgren?

Perhaps Ashford MacNab or Jennifer Vandyke could have given it more depth.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I really couldn't,t tell. I couldn't get past the narrator.

Any additional comments?

I believe I will have to purchase the book to get the best interpretation of it. I will not be getting the rest of the trilogy on audible with this narrator.

Nora Roberts - Dark witch had me tearing up.

The story flow so easily the characters stayed with me and when they fought I was right there with them. This book makes you believe in magic, love, and I could hear Ireland calling me home!

Horrible Narration

I really like Nora Roberts books. She writes great stories that really drag you in and you hate when the story ends.
A narrator can make or break a book, and Katherine Kellgren's narration of this book was hard to listen to. I liked the book, but will not be continuing with the rest of the series because I don't think I can take much more of the screeching voice of Ms Kellgren.
She really "broke " a good book.

Great story-HORRIBLE NARRATOR

Love this series. This narrator is horrible. Wish they could re-record with new narrator.
Stick it out. The book is great.

unfortunate

The story was good, unfortunately the performance was a turn off for me. The narrator screamed her performance and I found it super irritating.

Awful narration

This was not the story for this narrator. I am afraid she ruined it for me. So dramatic when it’s not needed. She made the characters sound incredibly old. By the author’s description, they should be in their late twenties or early thirties. It sounds like they are old and using walkers and canes. I ordered the books and will read them myself because the story is great.

The narrator is awful!

The story is fantastic but wow this narrator's overly dramatic try at the Mid-Atlantic accent from 50s movies is just awful! The volume constantly needs to be lowered and raised again. The story was shouted for a third of it... Calm down lady! It's a good story.. but the narrator really kills it for me.

Nice mix of familiar with new; narrator quirk

Nice combination of fresh ideas with historical fiction, lush location, supernatural fantasy and romance. Although the characters were a bit predictable, as are their pairings, Roberts does a nice job giving a modern sensibility to the story, too. Kellgren, who generally does a good job, tends to yell when she does emotionally charged scenes (in all of her narrations). She yells a lot in this book, which gets a bit distracting.

I good book is worth hiring a good narrator!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

To read not to listen. I grinned and bared the narrator. This is the first Nora Roberts book I've listened to or read. The story was sadly a bit predictable.

How could the performance have been better?

Absolutely, but I've read the reviews on the next 2 books and the narrators look to be equally as awful.
