Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Gena Showalter captivates with a dark, tantalizing world of humans, otherworlders, and a powerful AIR agent consumed by his desire for a woman he can never have.

With one caress, he can give unforgettable pleasure - or unending pain.

Hector Dean is shaved, tattooed, and totally ripped - and he has a deadly secret. He is a walking weapon, capable of killing with a single brush of his fingertips. Little wonder he’s determined to remain on his own. But Noelle Tremain is a temptation like no other. She is beautiful and rich, with a party-girl smile that hides a shocking vulnerability, and from the beginning his sizzling attraction to her is undeniable. For the first time, his stone-cold resistance is tested. But to be with her, he risks destroying her.

When a wealthy businessman is murdered in New Chicago's seediest district, the two are partnered, and there's no escaping what they both want: each other. Yet neither Hector nor Noelle knows what to fear more - the killer case, or their own lethal desires.

Voice versus Quality

Just love listening to Sabastian''s voice. Like having fabulous sex on a raining day. It has a engaging story line. But sadly for me the most of the "gutter" profanities are just so annoying to the story.

Adore the narrator.

Since I hadn't read the other books in this series, it took a chapter or two to really get into the story. So very glad that I hung in there. Loved it.

Story FANTASTIC! Narration NOT GOOD!

This story did not disappoint at all! I loved how the story develops for Noelle and Hector - it has so much heart and feelings woven through the story, along with the vulnerability of the characters was the kick ass attitude of them both. However, this is book 6 and the past 5 stories were narrated by the fantastic Justine Eyre who developed all of the characters voices and they were so distinct it was very enjoyable to listen to each one of them. This book however, barely registered a change in voices and of course could not match the distinctive voices we have grown to love.

So good

This book really is five stars beginning with the voice at audible. His voice sounds like warm brandy tastes. So rough and smooth at the same time. Strong, smart, kickass female characters, wonderful men. I love that the author took on the subject of sex slavery and we get to see a kingpin go down in flames literally.

The interaction between the main female and male characters is always exciting, even if predictable. Even though any story about aliens is about cultural diversity, this tory covers aliens, humans, mutants, rich people, poor people, the haves and havenots, the themes about self acceptance, battling against bigotry and class snobbery are timeless.

The characters are so vivid I can see each, I can smell the smoke that is produced by the human torch and I feel that I know them all. The author makes them feel real. Great writing, not too much unnecessary details, great action, no mixing up prone with supine, no contradicting fighting or sexing positions to break my concentration and HOT and intimate and erotic, and unforgettable sex scenes. The perfect gradual buildup that does not disappoint!

I will be looking for more from this author!

A touch of danger!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💚🖤💙❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏
Character development: ☺️😮🙂😍
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Solo Narration

The Hero: Hector Dean - He was an agent and trainer at the Alien Investigation and Removal training camp. When he first sees Noelle Tremain get off the bus as a new recruit he is attracted to her but he knows that he and females did not mix. He had accidentally killed his one and only girlfriend with his mutant arms that were fired up by strong emotions. They literally burned through bodies, ripped out organs and destroyed just about anything.

The heroine: Noelle Tremain - tall, slender, beautiful and wealthy, she is one of the trainees at the AIR training camp. She is young and naïve, though her cousin is an AIR Agent. Noelle has a wrap sheet full of violent encounters that may or may not have been exaggerated to get her into the program. Noelle had never gotten along with her parents, she just never was enough for them. She just wanted someone to love her and see that she was worth something.

The Story: Noelle had been kidnapped as a young girl and her father’s response to that was to fry her nerve endings and destroy her pain receptors so she could never be tortured again. Though that procedure had taken endless torture fueled days, until the very end when she felt nothing. She hasn’t cried since then and never will again.

Hector had a tragic a background as well, and suffered greatly as a child. Though nobody knew about what happened in his childhood or about his mutation. Hector didn’t know for certain that his arms glowing and burning things was a mutation but he had studied his family and a mutated gene was the best he could think of.

I really liked this storyline, both characters were extremely interesting and for being a socialite, and playing up the airhead, Noelle was really a tough and fierce woman. Hector was also very interesting because he had a legitimate reason for holding himself back from his overwhelming attraction to Noelle. I also liked how much he admired her and how he saw through her outside image like nobody else did.

This book is told via solo narration and is narrated by Sebastian York. He is one of my favorite narrators and has a deep, gravely voice which is very sexy and works well for any type of romance. I saw a few other audiobook reviews that gave Sebastian a low rating because he wasn’t the same narrator as the first five books, but I skipped all of them because they were narrated by a female and I like a male narrator or dual narration and very rarely will listen to anything with a solo female narrator. I love Sebastian and think he did a terrific job.

I miss Justine Eyre :(

Good book. The narrator was okay. He pronounced names differently than Justine, and said "air" lots of times instead of "A.I.R." There was also an editing error where he said things wrong, then said the same sentence right. I still enjoyed the book, but I miss Justine's narration.
