Publisher's summary

Luke Rivers is a man of his word.

He agrees to marry Kate Logan when she foolishly proposes to him - after one glass of champagne too many - at her former fiancé's wedding reception. And Luke, stubborn rancher that he is, refuses to renege on his promise.

Kate was devastated when the man she'd always loved married another woman, a newcomer to their Oregon town. But now, not only does Luke refuse to break their engagement, he insists that Kate doesn't love Clay - she actually loves him!

Enjoyable easy listen

A sweet little romantic story that made for easy listening. It was a little predictable (but all love stories are) and of course a happy ending.

Oh brother, sucked in again :-)

I am a sap when it comes to romance novels. This one was okay, but I have read much better ones. However having said all of that, the story & characters kept me interested & the conclusion was sweet.

A Sweet Country Romance

Luke has loved Kate since he first started working at her fathers ranch. When her former fiancée got married, he helped her through the event. Now if he could just get her to admit she loved him. Great performance and story. Recommend.

Wonderful Story!

Truly enjoyed this lovely, clean, realistic romance. The values these folks exhibited are those I was raised with and it was a delight to hear the relationships unfold, mature and take root. Dialogue was realistic as were the conflicts, both inner and outward.

Thank you, Vanessa Johansson for a lovely narration that truly added to book.
Thank you, Debbie Macomber for a wonderful novel.

Mixed Review

Debbie Macomber is a favorite author of mine who has definitely improved with experience. That being said, this is one of her early works.
The conflicts and dialogue don’t seem to change, they’re just repeated.

It was difficult to listen to the narration from the beginning. Within the first few sentences, she mispronounced “Oregon”. A novice’s mistake ... it only takes minimal research to discover how the state and region’s residents pronounce the state name. She also gave the characters a southern drawl. Just because the region is rural or the setting is on a ranch doesn’t mean they speak with a twang. Also, each character spoke the same. There was no discernible difference between characters of the same gender. (Oh, why can’t every book be narrated by Therese Plummer?)

good story - though not her best

I was a little disappointed in the story. It was not to the sames quality as her others. It was a good story just not great. Hope you find it better than I did.

Not my favorite, one of her stories, but great ending

This was very obviously, in the beginning of her career as a writer, but it gave a glimpse of the fantastic imagination and writing ability she would eventually develop. I still enjoyed the story, though.

Boring!!!!

I've been a Debbie Macomber fan for years. I must have read at least thirty or more of her books. I don't know what happened with this one but, it was like writers block and every chapter, paragraph, and sentence was the same dialogue just paraphrased. By chapter four I couldn't take it anymore. I skipped to the last chapter and even that was more repetition. Worse Macomber book ever. SERIOUSLY!!!

Annoying characters & bad relationship

I usually have a lot of tolerance for unbelievable behavior and characters when listening to a romance or a mystery book. This book crossed the line. In several scenes the man is borderline abusive, the woman is portrayed as someone who is incapable of making up her mind and acts in completely illogical and annoying ways. The narrator does a great job with a poor story.
