Publisher's summary

There is only one thing wrong with the charming community of Fool’s Gold, California: the men don’t stick around! This problem has to be fixed, fast, and Charity Jones may be just the city planner up to the challenge. Charity immediately falls in love with all the storybook town has to offer – except its sexy, famous, world-class cyclist Josh Golden. With her long list of romantic disasters, she’s not about to take a chance on another bad boy…but it may just be what they both need!

Critic reviews

"The book brims with quick-witted, good-natured characters, and though Charity and Josh occasionally verge on blandness, their romance grows poignantly and with chemistry to spare." ( Publishers Weekly)

Awful narration

I'm a huge fan of Susan Mallery. I generally love all of her books. I own many of the audiobook versions. As soon as I started listening to this one, I immediately regretted buying it. The narrator is absolutely horrible. It sounds like she's never read a book aloud before. She reads very quickly in some points, sounding almost like she's on speed. Her inflection doesn't fit right. She pauses very awkwardly in places that clearly do not have pauses. Her voices change for the same character, leaving you confused. Please do not waste your money on this audiobook. I got through an hour of it and had to quit because I just couldn't stand the narration anymore.

Wow..um...wow...not in a good way

Okay this has got to be the dumbest story/plot I have ever heard. This book is so stupid on so many levels I can't possibly put them into words (I'm only sorry the author did!!)

IF you can possibly get past that part, the narrator will drive you nuts. She sounds like one of those automated voice machines reading the story. Save your credits!

WHAT Happened Here?

I am Susan Mallery's biggest fan. However, if this happened to be my first book by Mallery, I would NOT revisit her collection. Do NOT let this book tant you on Susan Mallery. Go to the Buchanan Brother's Series of 4 books to get a great feel for her hot, sexy and very sweet romance novels. Everyone has an off day now and again. Susan must have had a very off day on this one.

Another good book by Susan Mallery

Where does Chasing Perfect rank among all the audiobooks you???ve listened to so far?

The entire series of the Fool's Gold books hae been very good

Who was your favorite character and why?

Charity is a young woman who raised herself from a child who was moved from place to place every few months. Then took control of her life and after college found her way home and a grandmother who had missed the wonderful growing up years of her only granddaughter. Then to find someone who was looking for the same future family that she was.

How could the performance have been better?

NEVER allow Tanya Eby into the recording studio again to read one of Susan's or anyones book.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This is a good story, but the fake 'Valley Girl' voice of Tanya Eby was like fingernails on a chalk board.

Any additional comments?

Susan Mallery is such a good story teller, well developed characters. However, when will authors learn that they do not have to put such descriptive sexual descriptions into their books. These descriptions are take away from an otherwise good story.

Don't care for the narration.

Would you consider the audio edition of Chasing Perfect to be better than the print version?

I'm sorry to say this but definitely not. I don't care for the narration at all. I really miss Therese Plummer's narrating! But Savannah Richards is also a great narrator as well.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

She reads slow and normal and then all of a sudden, really fast. Everyone sounds really quirky.

Nice surprise for a contemp romance!

**4.5 stars**
I've not had a lot of luck with contemporary romance/chick lit. I found this book to be better than most of the contemp romances. When compared to the popukar contemp romances Ive read. Chasing Perfect has less cheesy quotes; a super hot hero and a wonderful heroine with unbelievable chemistry; lots of funny moments; and the backdrop story of Fool's Gold and it's city-planning problem couldn't be better!! Very funny!

Just when I expected it to turn into another formulaic contemp story, the book surprised me with true character depth, or an embarasing and hilarious bad-date scene, or even better, a red-hot romantic scene that was unexpected.

Most of all, it's a nice lite read when your mood is for a comfort read vs an angst- filled romance.

Nice narrator, though she has a nasally voice at times, she did a great job!
I'm always thankful for a good narrator these days. :)

I'm definitely reading the next two. (Ethan's story, then Pia's story)
Recommended highly for anyone who enjoys contemp romance! Also recommended for the reluctant... :)

A pretty predictable chick read.

What did you like best about Chasing Perfect? What did you like least?

I liked the narrator but thought the story line was pretty simplistic.

Would you ever listen to anything by Susan Mallery again?

Maybe.

Have you listened to any of Tanya Eby???s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I don't think so.

Did Chasing Perfect inspire you to do anything?

No.

Not a bad start

This book starts yet another series by Susan Mallery. While not outstanding, I did enjoy it much more than some of her other groupings. This was a pleasant but predictable romance novel - there was nothing really special about it. However, it was interesting enough that I will buy the next installment.

Okay Story, Awful Narration

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

This wasn't the most enjoyable audiobook I've listened to, but I enjoyed the story enough to listen through till the end. It wasn't as good as some of Susan Mallery's other books (the Buchanan series), but wasn't awful.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I would have made the main character less obstinate. There were times she was so dense I wanted to smack her.

What didn???t you like about Tanya Eby???s performance?

Where do I begin? My biggest problem with it was that this narrator is not a story-teller. She reads words with great diction, but little feeling. And when she does express some emotion, it was often the wrong one. She read with different voices for the characters, but didn't provide any difference in inflection, tone or personality to distinguish them. Every character was read as if they were at a job interview. At an elementary school. It was weird.
