Publisher's summary

Matt Hansen. Hot single daddy. Arrogant. Rude. Older. My boss. Totally off limits...right?

Matthew Hansen is the kind of handsome that has grown women whispering behind their hands and giggling like schoolgirls. Dark, tall and mysterious, he's a newcomer to our little town. He's a gritty, grease-covered mechanic, and a single daddy. Sweet, right? Plus, he's looking for a nanny - and I am desperately looking for a job. Sounds like the perfect deal.

Only he's a jerk. An uncivilized, hulking brute. Zero manners. Zero interest in making me feel welcome in his home. Downright rude. But oh, so sexy. And I need the job. I can do this.

One thing is for sure: I can't fall for the caveman. No matter how sexy he is. How mysterious. How tortured. That's the only rule - and one I'm about to break.

ugh!

That's my stock word for reviews of books like these. Single dad who drinks too much and takes pain pills and falls for an 18 year old virgin. Come on, man!

LOVED JACOBS NARRATION HATED ANNA'S

UGH I could hear every time the female narrator inhaled and it annoyed me 🙄🙄🙄I kept listening because of Jacob's narration . The story was not great but was not horrible. It was just a bit young adult and it jumped around randomly. I was a bit confused. This could have been a good book but now it's just ok if you have an extra credit lying around.

Hard for me to connect with 😟

Not the worst story I've ever heard, but certainly not the best. Matt's a sexy single dad who moves his kids to a new town after the death of his wife. When he starts working as a mechanic, a nanny becomes necessary.

Long time resident Octavia just happens to be looking for work. She's helped raise her siblings while her mom worked to support a household without a dad. Sounds like a great match for Matt right? Matt, who's still grieving the loss of his wife, thinks Octavia reminds him of his wife too much to be around so he doesn't hire her.

When he sees the bullies in town giving her a hard time during her job search, he speaks up and hires her. It sounds like the story would get really hot and sexy after this point, but unfortunately it doesn't.

Matt is a 30 year old super grouch and Octavia is an 18 year old virgin. For a while the only thing going on is Matt being rude with a bunch of angst between them. The fact that she's so pure and nieve, tge possibility of hooking up with an old dad just doesn't seem sexy to me. It feels like Matt was just wanting a "wife fill in".

The best things about this book for me are the kids and the narration. The kids are so sweet and want that mother figure in their lives so bad it breaks your heart. Octavia is so good with them. That's the driving force for hoping her and Matt get together.

Anna and Jacob did an outstanding job. This made me want to continue listening. Truthfully I probably wouldn't have spent a credit on this book had I'd known all this ahead of time. I would have waited until it went on sale.

Want my credit back

When you early on think: ”you can’t be as stupid as just thinking it is a person doing something threatening, and then just go on and on without seeing the signs it isn’t that person” about a character. You have a hard time hearing anything good. Too stupid characters.

Intensely captivating!

One thing I love is a good single dad romance. Jo Raven didn't disappoint in the least with Caveman! Not only is he a single dad to two adorable cuties, but a redeemable jack ass too. The suspense just kept on building as I kept turning the pages and kept me glued.

Octavia is one determined girl when it comes to do what needs to be done. She's in need of a job to help out her family and will even endure Matt's rudeness to keep it. His reputation definitely precedes him. But then she gets glimpses of the pain within him and starts to see him in a different light. But before they can can heal those inner wounds, danger lurks around the corner threatening everyone's safety.

Caveman is a standalone with its own HEA but characters do cross over from other of Jo's books. It's told in dual POV and narrated the same in audio which I love.

I managed to snag this on audio too and I have to say the narrators truly did an amazing job taking these characters to a new level.

I Enjoyed This Book

I'm happy I ignored the negative reviews and just listen to the book. It isn't my normal but it's a good story and I'm looking forward to reading more of Jo Raven's books.

Book 7 Stars, Audible Edition 10!!!

Let's make this clear - I loved this book from the beginning, read it at least twice. I bought this Audible almost because I thought I owed Jo to buy it just for writing it. I even put off listening to it as "OK well, no emergency because I know the story Well, all I can say is I WAS WRONG. Jacob Morgan is particularly listenable as Matt - and Anna Riordan takes care of Tay ; very well. I didn't think this story could be much better but Anna and Jacob ramp this up to the next Level. Matt and Tay are ordinary but they are not - and it's Jo's characterization that lets them shine - I love it - I'm a pretty picky avid reader - but this story gets down to the nitty gritty and it feels quite real. It's sexy, it's extraordinary in it's simplicity. It will make you sad, happy it wipes you out and brings you back up again. I am going to read more Jo Raven (and hope she can match this), I'm going to look for more Jacob Morgan and Anna Riordan - and I hope they have been given quality books like this because they (and especially Jacob are Just That Good). !!!

Good listen

There was a lot good and a little not so good about this book that made it a decent listen for me.

The plot was a great one. I loved the caveman and the nanny, the single dad just trying to do his best, the thriller aspect that comes a little later in the book and the hot romance. But there were a few plot holes that I felt could have been sewed up to really make the book tight. I was able to enjoy it, it just kept it more of a surface like instead of an intense love for the book.

Jacob Morgan was 5 star perfection. Couldn’t have asked for a more grumbly man child, turned protective stud muffin. Loved his performance. Anna Riordan was fantastic when she was reading the in between but when she would get to the narratives, I would feel like she would lose her sincerity. It really made her sections a little harder to listen to.

All together a good listen. I don’t think it will be one I come back to over and over, but I will think of this grumbly Caveman from time to time and his sweet kids.

Gotta Love the Bad Boy

Having already read Undone (book 2 in this series) I had always wondered about Matt and what his story was. I loved reading about him with his children and watching him fall for Octavia and finally admit his feelings was wonderful. Now I'm going to go back and re-read Undone just so I can see him and Octavia again :)
